What does Riot think when they go on the boards?

For real, all I see on the boards are people discussing what is wrong with the game, in completely reasonable ways and it feels like Riot just doesn't even acknowledged it. Like do they come on to see whats getting posted, see multiple posts about DMG being too high, Zoe being able to one-shot while missing every move, and how fucking awful Electrocute and Ignite feels to play against, all with substantial up-votes and they just shrug their shoulders and say to themselves,

"We know what's best for the game, if everyone hates what were doing, we wont do anything to make them happy. If we lose our entire fan base because we believe ignoring our most loyal players is the right way to proceed, than so be it."

Why is it so hard for Riot to say, "We fucked up, here's what were gonna do based on what the players have been saying." There are a lot of things Riot have changed due to player concern, but why not these things. They're the most talked about and hated aspects of league today, and we're seeing little to nothing out of Riot in effort to appease the player base.

What do they think when they look at the boards?

They see a bunch of ungrateful, spoiled as fuck little shits who throw a temper tantrum until they get what they want, bitch at whoever gives it because it's not beyond perfect, and refuse to hold any intelligent discussion on any matter at all.

They see people who would rather whine and scream and throw their metaphorical shit at the wall than actually have a real discussion. If the boards had their way, CertainlyT would be perpetually homeless, unable to find a job anywhere at all.

They see people who are biased beyond belief, that refuse to accept any fact that doesn't fit exactly what they believe.

They see people who call anyone who presents actual facts being shit on, called a Riot suckup or (x) main, and ignored. You can point out that Udyr tanked dozens of turret shots not because of turrets being weak, but because of problems inherent to Udyr's kit, and they'll just scream and rage and suddenly you're at 50 downvotes an hour.

That is what Riot sees when they look at the boards. They don't see people discussing what's wrong in reasonable ways, because there is no reasonable discussion taking place here. Fuck, you can't get people to even accept that an indicator is not a buff, let alone have any discussion where it doesn't devolve into "REEEEEEEE SHUT THE FCUK UP YOU BRONZE NOOB JUST GIT GUD AGAINST ZED REEEEEEEEEEEE".

Honestly? I am sure they care a little but not a lot. There are three reasons they likely wouldn't listen to the boards:

  1. The boards are a small minority that exists in an echo chamber. Most people coming to the boards do so because they have a problem with the game. Yes some places like GD have people coming for community reasons, but a lot of the boards is here because they wish to file a complaint. That doesn't make their complaint invalid mind you, they very well could have a very good reason. However, it also means it will seem like everyone hates the game here even if most love it, simply because the people who hate it are all coming here. This means it is hard to accurately gauge the community as a whole through the boards.

  2. The boards complain about every change. Some changes are bad. Riot has made some extremely questionable decisions before. And the boards has called them out on it, so why didn't Riot listen? There is a boy who cried wolf phenomenon happening here. The boards says every decision Rito makes is a stupid one, included Riot's smart decisions. Since the boards call everything a bad move, the boards is no longer a trusted source of judgement as the judgement will always be the same regardless of what Riot does.

  3. People are allowed to harass Rioters completely and totally without consequence. Rioters are coming here out of their own free will most of the time, rarely do they have to post on the boards. It isn't a required part of their job, but rather something they do in their personal time to connect to the community. If you are working a stressful job, the last thing you want to do in your free time is sit there and be told you need to be fired, and how worthless you are. Rioters in the past have mentioned this as a reason they don't come, and this toxicity actively drives Riot away. The moderation team has determined it better to appear non-biased then to actually create any worthless discussions. Was this a good move? That is a matter of opinion. But the inevitable consequence of allowing the most toxic individuals in the community to run around unchecked is that Rioters, and even non-toxic members of the community, will leave.

Here's the issue.

Which complaints is Riot supposed to listen to? Those of low elo players who complain about everything new? High elo players who complain about everything old? You say "Everybody" but it's NEVER "Everybody" who's talking about something, and whether or not you think this way, silence is as important as complaints. For how many people complain about one thing, there's just as many people complaining against the complaints PLUS those who aren't complaining at all. Then there are many other factors to take into account, such as the state of the game, the meta, the Champions themselves, the game itself, etc.

Riot has more to think about than how many people say one thing at one point in time.

Probably something along the lines of "These fucking people have no idea how to balance..."

People always complain. Theyll complain until the cows come home. Have complained since s1. Yall still dont know how to balance, and think its as easy as "damage too high, remove damage".

The balancing team doesn't even play the game. They just balance it based on numbers.
