Play for Fun V.S. Play To Win

Can we address these two ideas that Riot promotes but very easily contradict each other. And how these 2 ideas are the very source of the toxicity in this game.

If you are playing for fun, you are looking for new interesting ways to play the game to get the most satisfaction out of the game. You are not concerned with winning whatsoever.

If you are playing to win, you are only concerned with the most optimal meta for playing in order to provide the best odds of winning, you find satisfaction in winning and the more optimal ways of winning there are, the better.

Essentially Riot wants to have their cake and eat it too. They want to entice people to play by showing how fun the game is, and then profit off of esports by promoting the competitive nature of the game and winning.

In no universe can I play to win and feel as though i have a fighting chance when there are 2 people on my team trying out a new build, new role, new champion.

In no universe can I play for fun and not have my experienced ruined by a person who is solely focused on winning.

These things simply cannot co-exist. One needs to be left behind.

Why can't they? I play to win AND I play for fun.

"The next best thing to playing and winning is playing and losing"

It's a game. Unless you are really close to going pro, if you are not having fun then what's the point of playing?

I strongly recommend reading about Meteos's perspective from the following article: https://nexus.leagueoflegends.com/en-us/2019/01/10-players-to-watch-2019-lcs-spring-split/

I don't agree with the notion that 'for fun' and 'for winning' are mutually exclusive. Although when you say 'for fun', it often has a negative connotation of a playstyle that isn't traditional or perhaps it is innovative in the sense that it's unique, but not effective (usually). However, that's not the only way to have fun.

https://memecrunch.com/meme/2TZ37/why-not-both/image.jpg?w=479&c=1[\img] Like rly, I found my OTP(Rumble) and I had fun even after 300 games. Unless you are high dia you don't need to strictly follow meta, it can make it easier, but you can play almost anything you want to and get high.
