I miss old Quinn and Valor
Title really.
Some back story though because these kind of posts need that sappy stuff.
I started league just as Quinn was released and she's one of the first characters I saved ip for. Super fun champ, she had some glaring problems, like her auto attack projectile vanishing if you clicked to move too soon after attacking, her vault sometimes acting.... weird? and her passive being a bit awkward to work around but still rewarding.
Valor was by far the best part of Quinn. Switching to Valor was a rush every time because it meant 1 of 3 things: Someone on the enemy team is going to die. I'm going to die if I fuck up, and I need to escape or I will die. All of them involve danger because switching to Valor meant you had no out if you went in since vault became a basic dash, you were extremely squishy and you lost your range since Valor was melee. In return you gained massive movespeed and attack speed, allowing you to shred whoever you attacked and stick to them like glue. A Valor with IE and shiv did not care who you were, you would die in less than 3 seconds regardless if your team did not save you.
It was a massive risk vs reward that felt extremely satisfying to have work out. But now that your ult doesn't switch to Valor and instead is just t2 boots with a 2 second start up and a global sound effect, there's nothing. The only thing you can do with Quinn's ult now is just get back to lane or gank, but ganking with it is significantly worse now since Quinn lacks the sticking power that Valor had, so it's ONLY good for getting back to lane and maneuvering outside a fight.
Riot removed Valor from Quinn and Valor, removed half their kit, didn't fix their bugs and removed their execute and to make up for it they let you get into lane faster at the cost of mana and and a 2 second wind up time. There's no excitement anymore when you play Quinn, she's now just a basic ADC with nothing separating her from other ADC's. No risk vs reward plays, no ganking mid from bot as a blood mad bird. They removed the entire identity of Quinn and Valor; A girl with a bird. Now it's just a girl and a bird that carries you back into lane.
When I think about it now I feel like I'm watching the fall of dawngate. All those fun characters gone forever, we can never play them again.
The new Quinn, while finally having the bug fixes she needed years ago and actually performing well now since there's a better burst combo for her. She's not the same. They're a mannequin in the shape and with the looks of the old Quinn and Valor, but they'll never be what we once had.
All the fun and excitement I had playing them is gone and it won't come back. All the emotions I felt while playing them will never be experienced again. Now when I play Quinn I feel like I'm playing a basic ADC, she's stale and by the books. Switching to Valor made her unique, and without Valor, she'll never be a complete character, literally, since Valor was the other half of her kit and the other half of her identity before being removed.
I haven't actually played for a year or so now. Only reason I'm posting about it is because I thought of old Quinn and Valor recently and how much fun they were. I can't really speak for the current meta, I'm glad Quinn is viable now, I just wish it was the Quinn and Valor that got me into the game instead of the fraud we have in their place now.
