Counterplay and stuns
TL;DR: Imagine if Leona's ult had no animation, cast time or delay and stunned everything it hit, lacks counterplay right? Well if you agree that a skill like that lacks meaningful counterplay then you can't say Annie is balanced because that's exactly what she has, and don't even say "Oh, well she has the little swirl around her when her stun is up" you can press E right before you hit R to negate the stun being visible to people.
Lets be fair, when you get chain stunned for 8 seconds there's little counterplay involved outside of items, but thankfully for most stuns and roots and other forms of CC there's a clear indicator of where the danger is, Viegar's new stun for example has a clear indicator of where the stun is, Leona's ult has a clear indicator of where it is, you can see where Taric's stun is flying to know who it's going to hit and ready yourself for it. A large majority of stuns have counterplay to them, you can dodge them,
at the perfect time to avoid them, hell, even those targeted suppressions have decent enough counterplay since
is a really cheap item (though it needs another build path so AP users don't get shafted).
I'l like to talk about 2 champions that had similar stuns that lacked counterplay before, one was changed to have it, while the other still lacks actual counterplay. They are Viegar's stun and Annie's tibbers, before a decent Viegar would be able to stun and kill anyone he wanted because his stun was easy to hit, was AOE and had a long duration, kind of a nightmare to deal with if you're playing against a slightly competent Viegar, was it made a bit to hard to actually hit in the recent change to give it meaningful counterplay? Ya, it is harder to hit and needs some more changes to make it slightly better to use, but at least it's on the right track.
Annie however is a complete monster, lets compare stuns, both are AOE? ya, both have a relatively long CD and can't really be spammed? ya, both are skillshots? ya, both deal burst damage? no, both cause AOE damage over time? no, both can be given a thornmail effect that also increases their movement? no, both have a cast time? no, both have a delay? no.
Why is it that Annie, a champion who's stun is a long range AOE with a DOT build in, that is also a controlled summon that can be given a speed boost and a free thornmail, deals high burst damage with no cast time, delay or warning not being given the Viegar treatment?
Her stun lacks any form of counterplay, it's been suggested before to make her throw tibbers so people have time to react to it and dodge, imagine if Leona ult had no cast time, delay or animation to show where it was going to hit, everyone would be bitching for nerfs to Leona, why is Annie allowed to have an ult like this?
If a champion has an issue with counterplay, by all means add counterplay, but if another champion is suffering from the same lack of counterplay then you need to be fair and give them the same treatment, you fixed Viegar's low counterplay stun, now do the same to Annie.
