For the longest time, league players have been asking for a champion with a similar complexity to Invoker from Dota, and we finally got him. I also feel like he is the first truly difficult champion they've released in awhile, some people will disagree with this, but I dont consider pyke, yummi, or zoe to be that difficult .

His kit looks fun to learn and play and I can't wait .

That's because most league champs aren't. Players confuse skill ceiling with skill floor. Take Camille for example. People will still argue she's difficult when in reality the most baseline level to understand her and player her effectively is quite low. Aphilos conversely requires quite a bit of time, patience and skill to get the most out of.

I honestly can't wait to play him. The problem is no matter how good you are with a skill champion like Aphelios there will always be some braindead right click champion who can kill him with no skill or brain required. That aside, I look forward to the challenge of getting him to M7 quickly!

I will have to use him before I can say I am excited or not.

Honestly he is still nowhere near as complex as Invoker, all things considered. At any time he's got two guns with an ability each and a bonus effect for each other, with another bonus effect if he uses his R grenade. Invoker you have to manually play Magicka to mix up new spells from 3 elements on the fly and then learn combos from 15(?) abilities of which you can have any at any given time. Not saying Aphelios is gonna be easy, though. I think people playing against him being worried they'll be confused will get used to it super fast, but playing this guy is gonna take a long time to get used to. As someone with 88 level 7 champions though who always gets level 7 on new champions, this sounds like a proper strain on my transferable skills for the first time in years.

Been wanting a more complex, truly engaging to play champ for years and he's the closest we'll get.

I cant wait for him to skillfully right click me with a variety of different right clicks. XD

EDIT: Almost forgot to mention him building full lethality and stacking it with more free armor pen since he doesnt have to level up his skills.

Its ok everyones going to their post-akali, pre-neeko release reddit phase. y'know the one where the entirety of reddit circlejerked each other about how akali was "too complicated" until neeko was released and everyone collectively passed out due to the sheer lack of stimulation one gets when you play her. Aphelios is gonna be a great experiment and a great champ for those that would rather not sit in boards or reddit and complain about how drop dead breaindead champs are "healthier" for the game.
