How does one counter Master Yi when building full armor/health doesn't seem to do anything to prevent him from blowing you up?

Step 1 - have a Leona on your team.
Step 2 - stun lockdown Yi.
Step 3 - kill his GA.
Step 4 - he revives and kills everyone 1v5.
Honestly its obsurd about his statistics on pentakill rating in all elos lol, while a few are at about .7%, he was at a solid 1.3-1.4%.
Though he is killable with enough cc and coordination and cooperation from team, otherwise hes just that free champ that just destroys everything.
Be ready to hear how all you have to do is cc him though. It takes team coordination to deal with his bs.
Press Q and laugh as he runs away from you at the speed of light.
Hard CC (preferably point and click), grouping, and waiting for his first Alpha Strike before trying to fight him. Shut him down early to keep him from becoming a monster later on if possible.
Ban him
same way you counter katarina, hope you got CC else prepare to die
You have to end the game before he gets 2-3 items. If you think that sounds stupid and unfair....that's because it is stupid and unfair.

He has no natural escape ability pre-6 and his ultimate is...questionable for that at best although effective sometimes. He has no CC and his position is very predictable if he didn't alpha strike an already dying target.
Really the answer I would give is find him before a fight starts and initiate on him specifically. Yi doesn't like fighting multiple targets that have full HP. He kind of relies on his team starting fights so he can come in and clean up...same thing as Kat, but with no escape.
If he's gotten big/fed enough, he may have a chance to just cascade a fight in his favor, but before that point of the game happens, if you can find him out, he's easy pickin's usually. If he's fed never try to 1v1 him in a straight man to man fight.
It’s really hard to fight many older champions when they’re fed. Their kits have so little outplay potential that they need to be very reliable, but all very reliable kits need stat gating. So, if they have the stats, then you just can’t get in range of them. For example,
If R-Q-E can kill you, then unless you run, you are dead. Same goes for anyone around you.
If he can kill you before you can burst him, then he can reset his Highlander and ace your team.
As a Master Yi main since season 3 I will enlighten you with this knowledge.
His fear is cancer to any Yi
CC for days, just has to auto you once to put the CC mark

THE traditional counter, Yi cant auto attack you to death if autos do zero damage.
THE ULTIMATE COUNTER. Unless yi is full build AND the Rammus is underfed, Yi is not winning this one.
In summation: You will notice that a lot of these champs do one thing really well, STOPPING YI FROM GETTING HIS RESET. It is the most tilting thing in the world when you cant get a second alpha or you die in alpha. Stop yi from getting alpha resets and you stop Yi Yi without alpha strike is just a buffed up superminon
Off the top of my head -and this doesn't excuse his current power level by any means- you'd stay far enough apart to not give him an optimal alpha strike entry, then CC lock him since he's a higher priority threat than probably anything else that will be in the match, and focus fire him down. Split dps is bad dps, ignore everything else for 2 seconds so you can blow him up. Also take a Malphite or Rammus if possible.
i sometimes have a little trouble vs him as soraka if he gets big. hard to counter him, especially since i usually opt for shield over exhaust on soraka.. Usually it's just a matter of cooldowns.. it's like anyone else, if he catches you with your pants down it's game over. It's just that master yi makes it look especially easy. meh. he's just a melee version of vayne. calm down. he's not that powerful.

Well, the way I do it is play edge lord Kayn, go Rhaast and wait for his stupid dash thing. After that, knock him up, Q, then ult. Most of the time he's dead after that. If not, your Q should be ready again.
The thing about yi is that he CANNOT play in front to back teamfights. He will try to fight the frontline, get cc'd and then bursted. However, if teamfights are not front to back, it is generally about trying to burst him down as soon as you can.
Hard CC counters him, but realistically since team comps with cc don't exist in mmr where Yi is prevalent, you want to basically just fuck up his early game as much as you can. If your jungler has fast clears, ask them to counter jungle Yi so he can't farm up. If he manages to get past that and becomes a problem then you need to itemize with tabis and thornmail if you can.
Always hilarious seeing a bunch of Yi mains tell you to chain CC him and he's useless, meanwhile you just had to waste 3 or 4 stuns on 1 champion or he will destroy you. If his team isn't retarded they could easily capitalize on that.

I personally think Yi is in a bad place given the change to IE. I used to play 100% crit Yi, but now you can't. You can waste 2 item slots and play 60% crit Yi, but why. Now it's all just bork / guinsoo. Lame. [zombie-brand-facepalm]

It is smarter to not counter him directly but to put him behind early with your team. Other than that hard CC is the way to go.
