League of Legends just isn't the same.. But why?
League has gone through a paradox. They've tried so hard to refine whatever image they had in their heads for themselves that it's effectively made the game cliché to me. The game has lost it's defining edge for many people and I want to understand why.
I don't even know where it all started. I used to love playing competitively in summoners rifts with my friends, I used to get rushes from beating people that were seemingly better than me. Yet now I can't stand one match of summoners rift, I've played hundreds if not thousands of ARAM games since I came back around June last year with the idea that I'll move to SR. But in total I've played maybe 5-6 SR matches and not one of those times did I have fun regardless if I went top, mid, bot, jungle.
Champions don't have anything that makes me want to main them. Laning isn't fun, it's not about skill it's about playing either a risky champion or safe and unfun champion. Maybe that's what I'm getting to... There is no reward for playing a risky champion, or playing with a risky strategy, or hell even having a strategy. I'd rather just duke it out mechanically for 15-20 to 30 minutes in ARAM. I find it taking more skill to be able to win an ARAM match with any comp than it is to bash my head on my keyboard to win lane in SR.
I guess I'm just getting old. I'm 22 and League used to be my diehard passion. Now it's just the same old shit that never seems to evolve past that same old shit. Riot, if you want to keep your game running strong I have a couple of words of advice.
Take chances and make mistakes. Listen to your playerbase because at the end of the day it is us that play your game and pad your wallets. You may not see the consequences of it now, but when you do it will hit you in the face like a flying brick. The game has become stagnant. It must be a tough pill to swallow, but someone has to own up to it. The sooner you realize that you HAVE to change the way this game is played, the better. The runes reforged idea was a good one in theory, but it's too little too late for many.
