Why does Akali's Mark of the Assassin last for 6 seconds while having a short cooldown?

I'm just curious. It kinda allows her to apply so much pressure on melee opponents since the mark will pretty much be on them permanently, due to its short cooldown. Especially since triggering the mark deals so much damage. It also allows her to proc 2 Q's in a quick succession later in the game when done correctly.

Here is a comparison with similar abilities: Akali Q: Lasts for 6 seconds, CD 6/5.5/5/4.5/4 Katarina Q: Lasts for 4 seconds, CD 10/9.5/9/8.5/8 LeBlanc Q: Lasts for 3.5 seconds, CD 6/6/6/6/6

I would say because she doesn't have a gap closer pre-6 to proc the q with. They could alter its late game cd but I would guess that is why it lasts so long.

She does have her ultimate at 6. Pre-6 however, she doesn't need a gapcloser vs a melee opponent (usually top lane). Why does that melee opponent have to stay away from Akali permanently to avoid taking damage (6s Cd, mark lasts for 6s)? Especially if the champion can't outtrade her for some reason.

It's not that big of a deal, but I don't see any point besides being an old design. Reduce it to 4 seconds imo.

I meant that the other champions had a shorter duration mark because they had a gap closer pre-6 that they can use to help them proc it. It's a compensation, not that she needs it, but I think that is why it is still there.

Because "Double-marking" is a core part of Akali's combo. Akali does not have 100-0 burst potential, so this is the only depth she has in her kit in order to achieve that.

Reducing the mark duration just dumbs down her play pattern, and reducing depth from a kit that is already simple is the wrong way to go.

I can't believe no one has noticed this, it is intentional that mark's duration lasts longer than the cooldown.
