Yasuo's Bonus Crit Chance: make it scale with his level

What if the bonus % crit chance Yasuo gets scales with his level? It does not have to be linear. Something along the lines of: Level 1 -> No bonus Crit chance. Level 9 -> Crit chance increased by 25%. Level 13 -> Base Crit chance increased by 50%. Level 18 -> Base Crit chance is doubled like normal.

For instance:

  • If he gets PD at level 9, his crit chance would be (30% + 7.5%) = 37.5% instead of 60% like now.
  • If he gets PD and IE at level 13, his crit chance would be (50% + 25%) = 75% instead of 100% like now.
  • At level 18, he would get double crit chance like normal.

This should smooth his power curve, so he doesn't an instant dramatic boost in crit chance after just 1 kill and snowball af afterwards.

I don't think I like exactly the implementation here. I get the concept, but lots of games don't last until level 18, and I think there's a better way to do this, given that we have another goal: give Yasuo a reason to max his Q.

Remove the "gains bonus crit" portion of his passive.

Add a passive to his Q. Yasuo gains a 150%/162.5%/175%/187.5%/200% multiplier to his bonus crit chance.

Now Yasuo has a reason to want to Max Q, and Yasuo's early game is weakened, in such away as to not impact his late game.

I think Yauso isn't OP. Overtuned, but more so insanely frustrating to play against, since he removes his opponent's agency. This would sorta... really hurt him, without necessarily tackling the frustration at its roots. If they're gonna change him and put the effort in there at all, might as well go all the way instead of a band aid fix, imo

You should clarify that it's not adding flat % crit chance, but % of current crit chance

no buffs for Yasuo

KoKoboto12/25/2016, 4:05:59 AM2 votes

Yeah it severely decreases the champions skill floor and is very noticeable in game. When a 0/5 Yasuo manages to farm up 2 items and instantly can drop squishies...

I don't agree. What's strong with yasuo is his early dominance, which has literally nothing to do with crit, but instead with a spammable Q and good base AD and AS stats; the mobility of his E. His midgame is kinda meh actually, he has a weaker powerspike at 6 than most champions, and then starts to compensate with PD or shiv powerspike. If we want to hit Yasuo's laning power, here's what to touch :

  • Q CD in one way or another (review the way its cooldown works, cause it's slightly oppressive).
  • E CD at early ranks
  • Base AD, base AS

I think one buff to Yasuo that made him easier to play is the change of his Q CD from 5/4.75/4.5/4.25/4s to 4s at all ranks, making E max strictly better and not having to have a choice between damage and mobility. Reverting that would do a great deal, if we ever want to nerf Yasuo.

Anyway, is Yasuo that overpowered? He's really close to 50% winrate (50.5% top ; 49.5% mid). Sure he's annoying, but it's not like he's as competitive as Lee sin or Cait...

Why not just give him bonus crit damage that scales and make him build 100% crit chance?

yay nibbers12/25/2016, 9:52:45 PM1 votes

The only reason he builds crit at all right now is because it's an immediate power boost for him rather than the long and expensive power curve that ADCs go through, and being a melee champ he can't afford to wait that long to start doing damage. Yasuo would just stop building crit if they did this. Remember Triforce+Mallet Tanksuo? I don't think anyone wants to see that again. Either that or he just stops being viable all together.

Believe it or not he's balanced around his crit passive. There are other things they can do to make him less frustrating without gutting him like this change would.

i like his bonus crit chance as it is now, but i do believe the bonus crit damage reduction should be lowered.

its currently 90% crit damage instead of 100% with his Q doing crit damage too.

IMO decrease it to 80% or 75% (at lowest) and give him a buff somewhere else to compensate. dont know how you can give a champion double crit chance but only a 10% damage reduction. it doesnt sound right on paper

Nope.

If you nerf his crit passive, he will just go tank instead.

Nerfing this will cause his build to go from this

item 3031 item 3046 item 3072 item 3006 item 3022 item 3026

to this

item 3046 item 3022 item 3111 item 3742 item 3072 item 3102

Tank Yasuo is bad for both parties. It's cancer to deal with and it doesn't fulfill the "Nimble Samurai" fantasy that Yasuo players want.

Please Yasuo, build Triforce and kill me with that instead.

It's hard to figure out what to change on Yasuo without ruining Yasuo. Here's a realistic idea.

Scaling the critical damage % decrease by level instead of a flat 10%. Crit chance can't be touched unfortunately. Say the Crit damage % decrease is 28% - current level. It would hit 10% by level 18, and he would still benefit immensely from double crit chance thru the entire game. Yeah, Yasuo players would cry hard but he is benefiting and still has a great shield passive to go with it. Some champs would kill for two completely functional passives at the same time and great mobility without mana dependency.

If Yasuo's AA and Q don't get reduced damage like they have currently.

Why does everyone ignore the 10% and 25% damage reduction.

Treyhova12/25/2016, 2:36:51 PM1 votes

That would pretty much gut him...Maybe instead his crits do less damage starting at 160% and gaining 10% every 6 levels. (His Q would start at 130%, and gains 15% per level.)
