Huge Complaint, MMR killed my promos.

DBS Ronovon··3 votes·689 views

I played and won 3 games, carrying as Veigar. Then MMR boosted the other team, and gave me nothing but scrubs so I lost no contest because everyone fed on my team, and I couldn't hard carry the match. Rito needs to do something about this unfair match up system that keeps determining my win loss ratio.

Politly mate, that's not how MMR works. Its a bit inaccurate but your mmr on OP.GG is placed at 1,036. About average for your division especially considering you just had a loss. The Average MMR for Bronze 3 74LP is 1,052. Now, Assuming you only lost 20 your pretty close to that.

Look, its not like you have an ungodly win % on Veigar, your impacts not hugely consistent to the point your grossly better then the players around you. Your pretty close to 60%, lets just call it that. That still means you should expect to lose 4 out of 10 games. Keep your win% high and your going to climb. When your impact falls off your win % goes up and down largely off teammates, your just not being as dramatic of a force in the game.

MMR is not to blame, There is not an ELO hell, There's just bottlenecks in your progression of playing league and knowledge.

A streak is not to be measured in just 2-5 games, we are talking about an elo system, this sucker requires a high amount of matches to accurately place folks into their mmr.

DBS Ronovon3 votes

Can you guarantee me that is my MMR right now? The exact MMR number that Riot games is using? Last time I checked, OP,GG isn't a Riot site.

Kai Guy1 votes

I cant, its why I have accounted for the fact its a bit inaccurate. Do you have a better rule of thumb to use or just want to take a wild guess on your own?

DBS Ronovon1 votes

How about the actual numbers, so we can tell, like I have been saying its hidden. Why is it hidden? What advantage is there to having it hidden? When you open up a bank account, they don't hide your transaction information, do they? Everything should be transparent otherwise its dishonest.

Kai Guy1 votes
  1. Basically People get discouraged when their mmr does not change much. The tiers feel better. 2.Plus they don't really want to make public the way their matchmaker works as competition can then steal their work. 3.And some folks will freak out if they are transparent on how matchmaker fucntions and write essays on how they are dumb and Solution X is clearly a better way to go.

Proof?

  1. This And that
  2. Common business assumptions. May be inaccurate but holds true consistently imo.
  3. Personal observation of boards and steamer attitudes. Also IMO take with grain of salt.
DBS Ronovon1 votes

1.People get discouraged when their MMR matches them against dream teams in their Promos and their RANK doesn't change much buddy.

There should only be regular rank, that would feel better and not sneaky, like hidden MMR. Maybe I think this way because I have been bronze and Silver.

2.They don't want to make it public because they have some other motives that are not honest, and not competitive IMO. What would someone steal? Who cares about stealing MMR? Thats a silly guess IMO.

3.So.... they keep it secret because they will get critical essays written about other solution? Please.... They get essays about how dishonest solution "Hidden MMR" is from ME now, so what do they do about it? The old rank system without MMR was WAY better, and honest. Please don't tell me they brainwashed you to think MMR is a great thing that makes everyone have a 50% win/loss ratio.

Proof, yeah, you don't have evidence. What I say is just as accurate as any of the things you are saying. Veigar

  1. Check the links?
  2. Its less about MMR but the match maker an the modifications used by riot on the ELO system to create it. You cant copy and paste ELO into a team game so you have to make adjustments to help it be more accurate. I got off target here that's my bad, this one is a lot less about MMR being hidden but the mechanics behind match makers decisions being hidden.
  3. Bro... "old rank system without MMR" My man MMR = ELO. Old system was a MMR system! Currently the only difference is player perception of their own strengths. Look I was clear on 2 and 3 being built as my opinion, the reasoning behind this opinion is fairly straightforward logic yes? But I linked you 2 different places riot explains why they use Divisions and Tiers and hides mmr.

So... please address that if you would. To make it easier for you Ill copy paste part of the info but you should still check both links on your own at some point. You asked why is it hidden?

"Ranked tiers also provide contextual progression and status. Knowing you’re “a Gold player” as opposed to “a 1650 MMR player” or “120,353 on the server” gives you clearer targets to work towards. Moving from 1595 to 1600 MMR is probably not that compelling, but promoting from Silver I to Gold V should give you the knowledge that you’re truly improving.

The Leagues system also gives you a bit of protection from losing a bunch of games in a row and having your MMR plummet as a result. Using demotion protection and promo helper, you can get a few extra lives in rare cases of not getting your preferred position for a few games or just being in a slump. R"

" In what ways is leagues better?

• All players have immediate achievable goals once there in a league and have frequent opportunities to feel competent as they progress. • All players are divided into smaller leagues typically including some of their friends making progression feel more meaningful. • Players are punished for queue dodging in a way that makes more sense in terms of progression. Again this reduced dodge rates dramatically. • Promotional series create spikes in intensity which make the overall experience more fun and rewarding to participate in. • The system shields players from ladder anxiety once they've reached a new tier and has some protections in place to keep them from instantly falling out of a division once promoted. • Losing while still not a great experience is overall less punishing...

TL DR: Overall the Leagues System has had a measurable and consistent positive impact, and while it’s not perfect we feel that it’s superior to MMR as a framework for us to work with and improve upon in the future."

Feel free to disagree but please be aware the Old system was MMR the only difference is in its visibility and players not seeing their "skill" go up and down as rapid.

DBS Ronovon1 votes

So the difference is that you go up way slower and its hidden? I hate it. It needs to be changed.

Kai Guy1 votes

That's fine you can hate it. Just want to be clear that MMR is still the system that was used in the older seasons. Removal of MMR is removal ELO..

Tier systems for ranked ladder have become increasingly popular, Its a industry standard.

GripaAviara1 votes

Dude, you dont play in silver. Maybe the matchmaking works fine at higher at elo, but silver-gold is bullshit.

Kai Guy3 votes

I have played in every mmr from Bronze to Plat, I have ended seasons in all of them. I'm currently in gold playing off roles and testing champions I enjoy. I do agree that bronze silver you will have a higher % of games that are just brutaly uneven. That being said all it takes is about a 300+ MMR gap (This is just a estimate. I wish to be clear here that it is my openion so please take it as such. im going of op.gg checks and personal experience when undervalued and on rare occasions smurfing to show a friend why they are not stuck in elo hell but need to adjust how they play.) Last year I soloed Flex and started in silver, had no issue climbing to gold and flex is kinda.... special.

Here is my history. Season 1, I was toxic, teammates where all shit, I was 2000+ elo in dota allstars as a Void, PL, TA, PA, medusa, BM player so clearly I kick ass at mobas and its just BS shit teammates that make me bad at lol. Nothing to do with me shit talking them, not adjusting my playstyle, aggressively picking fights 1 v anything. Season 2, I adapted to the way champions scale got more used to AP being valuable (ap trist good times lol) And worked around teammates more. Season 3, stopped being toxic in chat, worked on a wide champion pool and filling as needed which more or less made me a support main. Gold. Season 4 widened pool, fell in love with feast or famine playstyles when they work off being opertunistic. Gold Season 5 hit plat, just kinda improved over all and moved off the island I lived on so I now had a ping that's not 120+ Season 6 Hit plat playing off roles, swaped back to mains after being stuck in Plat 5-4 for a bit and got up to Plat 1, Decided as I'm almost diamond im clearly awsome at mobas (again... Doh...) tried to duo boost some friends in bottom of gold into plat. End result was destroying my MMR and being demoted to bronze and walked away from lol in frustration for several months. That year I Learned that a 100% handicap on a team is never good and gets worse the larger the gap between their skill and the opponents is. they are a negative for your team in every game. season 7, made it to play playing new champions and off roles. Also upgraded compture so I get more then 26 Fps on lowest settings. No joke, I made it to plat 2 years prior with under 60fps. I started this year with terrible promos after a nasty mmr drop. I was silver. Was not difficult to get it to plat for the 3rd year. Season 8. currently in gold playing new champions and working on off roles. Expectation is I can easily climb to gold 1 or plat if I starting 1 tricking mains again, I don't feel the runes reformed has had a negative impact on my best picks. I do think its worthwhile to try and branch out

So theres my entire LOL history for you. I will change my icon to my S1 bronze. If you still need further proof because you doubt the accuracy of my discriptions let me know. It wont be difficult to provide you a screen shot showing I don't own Victorious janna but I do own Victorious Elise. Everything else shows up on Op.GG. Far as FPS and ping are I should be able to track down a few pics I posted on facebook years ago, but that would be a bit more effort then id enjoy putting in.

Thanks for telling me your life story, are we best buds now?

Kai Guy1 votes

Drinking buds?

DBS Ronovon1 votes

What do you drink?

Kai Guy1 votes

Mostly Mirco brews. Thou I enjoy a good wine, Scotch, Bourbon, and Irish Whisky. Not huge on cocktails thou a Dark and Stormy and Moscow mule are nice. Likely because I got southern Fam I'm a sucker for hot toddys when ever I feel under the weather.

DBS Ronovon1 votes

I live by Russian River Brewery, and Bear Republic. If you ever end up going, hit me up, I grab a beer with you.

Kai Guy1 votes

I'm in WA myself. Lived in Santa Barbara for a while. For CA breweres i really like Stone, firestone Walker, Lagunitas, and Anchor steam/porter. I will look up Russian River and Bear Republic if they got distribution up here. Anything I have to try, I'm a fan of most beers besides tastless massproduced lagger. Love a good stout and porter, Pilsner is my go to light thou a good pale ale on a hot day is fan fucking tastic especially with a good meaty burger or sandwich mid afternoon. Also being a WA resident I'm a total hop head IPA drinker, Give me that imperial ipa super bitter super strong Pint please and thank you.

But seriously Shoot me something I need to try and I will if I see it. I would be very much obliged.

DBS Ronovon1 votes

All the most sought after stuff is local on tap at the Breweries. You'd have to come by. Pliney the Younger is the new one.

catastrophicSkil2 votes

focus on your own mistakes not your team. If you're truly better than your peers then you will climb its that simple Diamond/master/challenger dont get there consistently because of luck they can hold a 90% winrate from bronze to low diamond fairly easily and there are number of streamers and youtube videos to prove it

If your rank or MMR is how you determine if someone is a better player you should think about reevaluating your thought process because just not true

DBS Ronovon1 votes

You can't prove that because you don't know the numbers. As long as you don't know the numbers for MMR, you can't say what is or isn't true. You'd have to be able to see all the numbers, and no one can except Riot, because they hide the numbers. Don't know why, but it sounds like BS to me. Maybe it has to do with Honor or something. Re-evaluate my thought process how? If its honor based and not skill based, that would be weird to me. Not competitive at all, but favor based.

catastrophicSkil1 votes

The proof are the player who can consistently climb to challenger/master/ high diamond. There are plenty of examples on youtube of bronze to challenger and a number of streamers who have done it as well. They are good enough to carry themselves. I dont need to know the numbers to know I can play better than I currently do it's my job to figure out what I need to do in order to get better.

Gotta love how ignorant the community is to blame everyone else besides themselves

DBS Ronovon1 votes

Thats not scientific proof, you're just hoping. Its not a job, its a game. No you don't know the numbers. If a bank said "hey we are only going to show you some of your account information, not all of it," You would call foul.

You cannot prove me wrong because the numbers are hidden, therefor it would be better for YOU if the numbers were transparent. Name one advantage to having the numbers hidden, please.

catastrophicSkil1 votes

That's a bad analogy that has no correlation you're comparing orange to apple the proof is in the player base. You're not at the rank where the skill of the rest of your teammates actually matters. Even players at platinum and diamond aren't at that level. There is so much you can do to win the game all on your own the only people who don't believe that are those who are too ignorant to believe that they are bad at the game

so what you're claiming is there is no such thing as rank and the tier/rank we are giving has no meaning compared to the MMR rating that sounds idiotic to even suggest because there would be no reason to for riot to even implement it

but of course a bronze 3 player is gonna be ignorant of the facts that you're just garbage at the game and cry because you cannot carry yourself out when there are actually hundreds of thousands of people that can do it easily. It is SOO easy to climb out of bronze i've done it on multiple accounts. At your MMR you should be able to easily carry yourself out of bronze because the players are sooo bad and easily abusable

DBS Ronovon1 votes

I'm comparing something legitimate and transparent to MMR which is not transparent. If you care about legitimacy, then you should want things to be transparent, correct? You don't want the ranking system to be hidden, because what is the advantage? Nothing for you. The reason Riot implemented it is what? Do you know the reason?

Since you're calling me ignorant, you should have all these answers, right smart guy? So what are all the facts?

You say my words are idiotic and I am garbage, why don't you watch the way you speak to people? Or is this just something you think is okay only on the internet because you have this idea, that you're safe? Check the insults at the door bro, its going to get you nowhere.

catastrophicSkil1 votes
  1. If you've played or done the research behind why they implemented the current ranking system it's because people would cry that they missed rank X by 1 or 2 MMR points and how the number didn't represent anything there was no visual difference no one could distinguish what a 1200 or a 1250 MMR player meant at the time even though in reality the actually difference in skill between a 1200 player and a 1250 player is minuscule players feel a much bigger. They even stated that players feel a much better sense of accomplishment when they climb to a new rank or tier like going from bronze to silver and so on.

  2. Just look at your Opgg your CS average on your OTP champion is 5.4 you have games that go on for 25 minutes and you can't even clear 100 CS and I'm pretty sure i could 1v1 you with any champion and win 99% of the time and i don't even main mid lane.

  3. you want the facts you're just bad at the game and with your mentality to why you're bronze is the reason you wont get better.

DBS Ronovon1 votes

I have played and asked actual Riot people why MMR exists, and they don't give any straight answers, which is why I hate it. Its just there to ruin people when they do well, and help people when they lose repeatedly. If matches were just random teams based on Rank, then it would even itself out. If you argue that smurfs would be a problem, then guess what, now MMR exists and smurfs are still a problem. I don't think anyone cares about your 1250/1200 difference man, people just want the rank and progress. It doesn't make sense.

Dude I don't care about 1v1, this is a team game. If you're so good then show me how sempai.

OPGG isn't a Riot site, so its not accurate.

And me being bad at the game isn't presenting any facts, quit trying to flame me BRUH.

catastrophicSkil1 votes

you're hopeless to get through to stay ignorant I'm convinced this is just a troll post at this point

DBS Ronovon1 votes

You can't provide any real argument, facts, or constructive opinion on anything I have said, now you're being lame and using the "this is a troll post" cop out. Have a good one dude.

KlydeFrog1 votes

We'll get better then not sure what to tell you

KlydeFrog1 votes

Umm your build sucks you rush wrong items not sure what else to tell you. Void staff is not a first 2nd or third item usually a last item Because you don't really gain much off it. Better off getting cdr to spam ult and prison more . Hell I can play as taric and only build archangel staff and have like 400 AP...........

AssauIto1 votes

Its not just your mmr, but thousands of differant matchmaker values that the matchmaker uses to decide who goes on which team before each match. The outcome of your games is mainly decided by the matchmaker. You cannot win if the matchmaker is not set to allow you to win, and you have no direct control over these thousands of differant matchmaker values. Your rank is mainly determined by the matchmaker.
