How many targets does it take for Jinx to be able to do more dps in rocket form than in minigun form

Has anyone ever done the math to see how many targets jinx has to hit with her rockets to surpass her minigun dps? I would do the math myself, but I don't know how to do the attack speed scaling math.

If I've got the math right, at level 18 with no attack speed bonuses other than base, per level, and Pow-Pow factored in, and without accounting for the 10% bonus damage from rockets, you must hit ~2.1 enemy units per rocket to have higher dps with Fishbones than Pow-Pow.

With those same conditions, plus Jinx's usual purchases of Berserker's Greaves and Statikk Shiv, you must hit ~1.714 units per rocket to beat Pow-Pow's dps.

Realistically, you're not likely to get these exact scenarios. In any real game you'll also have some attack speed from masteries, maybe runes as well, and you'll be doing 110% damage with rockets rather than the 100% I worked with. Also, don't forget the bonus range with rockets; that's not to be taken lightly.

TL;DR: Just hit more than one enemy champion per rocket and it's worth it.

Thank you for doing the math. Always wondered when to switch between the minigun and rockets in a teamfight besides when they are out of minigun range or all stacked.

Probably just two, with any attack speed items.

The max attack speed bonus is 130% with fishbones, so her DPS would be 230% of what her base attack speed would provide. The relative impact would be diminished a bit with base AS growth from leveling and from item attack speed.

Hitting two targets for 1.1 AD each, however, means your damage output would be 220% of what your stats would otherwise suggest, even after all other stat bonuses are taken into account.

item 3085 + item 3031 + item 3046 + Rockets. I don't care if it's a troll build, it's fun to fire three crit-rockets at once!

Always windered why people dont build thise on her.

With the additional ranged factored in or not? Because you get 150 more iirc. With same build factored in, you get a headstart (sometimes of 2-3 attacks more, enough to shred other ADC's full build).

If you are just looking for when to use which mode: Use Pow-Pow any time you need to focus down a single target The only time you should use Fishbones on a single target is if you expect this to be your last attack on them

Fishbones is mostly for the teamfights where you do not have a way of hitting the backline, or they are clumped up Although even with the enemy team clumped if you are in position to focus down one of their squishies I would recommend Pow-Pow

Short answer: Use Pow-Pow in most situations, Fishbones is for when you only get one shot or if you don't know who to focus. Unless you have a specialized build like I saw in some other comments.

2 targets already grant more dps than the minigun(well, maybe if you have not a single bit of as from any source and are freshly lvl 9 with maxed minigun, you might get the same or slightly more dps out of it) if you want to get a specific target killed rather than spreading as much damage possible, minigun sure serves better. But usually, you will use the rockets in tteamfights unless you get dove on by a single enemie, cause you want the higher range to stay saver Which leads to the odd thing off rockets beeing mostly used vs living enemies, while the minigun is mostly used to tear down structures...
