Does anyone find it that mobile champions are naturally stronger than immobile ones?

BLIGHTBRINGER··54 votes·18,455 views

Most champions have between 325 - 355 movement speed, and some even manage to get around 420 (thanks to items) and on top of that they usually have a dash ability of some kind.

While the rest of the immobile champions rely on a Summoner Spell with a cooldown of 300 seconds to get away. Since some of the items they buy don't provide movement speed.

Can you imagine Annie being mobile.

Just think about it for a second.

Just one example, but not all immobile champions are helpless.

ZackTheWaffleMan2 votes

What if Annie was mobile, but she didn't have a stun, she just had an instant burst combo?

IcyPepper18 votes

Then she wouldn't be Annie anymore

Mobility is nice, but so is crowd control and having too much of both is not always a good idea.

So she’s an assassin now?

Pretty much. I think a big defining factor in the difference between an assassin and a burst mage is the amount of mobility they are given.

Yeah.

Well, that and burst mages are generally not single target, and assassins are mostly entirely single target.

And burst mages tend to have hard cc instead of mobility.

But yeah, overall, that’s the biggest defining factor.

Which single target assassin do we have i think there is one inside the roster even if i cant remember it. Most assassins have aoe on their damage so that that dont have to worry about aiming perfectly once they jump on the enemy and aim in their area its good.

In an ideal world Zed's single target, since in an ideal world he needs his R to 100-0.

Kha'zik's kinda single target, since he gets bonus damage on isolated targets.

Everyone else on the assassin roster that I can think of has mostly AoE abilities.

LordGeovanni1 votes

Needs his ult to 100-0 not really. I think i was thinking of Kha Zix and rengar even though they have aoe spells they neither of their aoe spells do any significant damage. Unlike zed leblanc talon etc

That’s a good question, actually do we even have any fully single target assassins? I don’t think so. Actually, on that topic, is there even a champion that lacks aoe abilities? It seems every champion has aoe abilities.

then she would probably be Leblanc

I can. Her name is Leblanc.

Theorex1 votes

Irelia, LB, Riven, Zed, Akali, Diana? That is pretty much what you just said.

IcyPepper1 votes

They have a potential ranged aoe stun on their ultimate and other spells due to their passive?

LordGeovanni1 votes

Riven does.

IcyPepper1 votes

ranged aoe stun

LordGeovanni1 votes

Not ranged but the mobility makes up for the range and she has twice the cc With knocks ups and stuns. (and 3 times the damage)

IcyPepper1 votes

Not ranged but the mobility makes up for the range

This whole thread started with "imagine Annie with mobility."

If Annie had Riven's mobility but Aninie's level of aoe, range, and cc, she would be a monster.

Immobile champions are not always helpless compared to their mobile counterparts. I don't want to argue every single individual point play-by-play when nobody's addressing my actual point here.

LordGeovanni1 votes

In my opinion annie is a monster now Just that there are bigger monsters out there annie is just a medium sized monster.

My biggest issue with mobile champs vs immobile champs is that tower shots are worthless now. That Zed knows that he can just come in and ult you under tower because his burst is quick and his escape is Garen. Same goes for Leblanc

You need to define strong.

Modl Ryden l7 votes

Strong? No. Versatile? Yes.

But really, where's the discussion when the topic is a loaded yes or no question?

Swittz6 votes

Yes, I do. Try playing Mordekaiser into any champion with dashes or even Annie /Veigar . It's a nightmare

Spoofghoul5 votes

What bothers me most though is that the mobile and ranged champions also seem to have the most access to % movement on items

I think base movement speed and % movement speed should be a strong point of low mobility melee champions

Right now it is the opposite which is just plain weird from a balance standpoint imho especially considering the amount of cc in the game

Gramps695 votes

I agree, marksmen getting % MS from items is stupid and completely unnecessary. Low mobility melees (i.e. Darius, Nasus, etc.) do have some options they can build (Dead Man's, righteous Glory), but often times that is dictated by team comps/games status/other in-game variables.

Marksmen on the other hand will almost always build at least one zeal item, usually two, for crit chance, AS, and they get that bonus MS on top.

CyberBalt5 votes

Well, lets look at fighters. Which fighters are strong right now? Camille Irelia Jax XinZhao etc.

And which fighters are weak? Almost all of the juggernauts, which surprise surprise, tend to have little or no mobility. Yeah, it's pretty clear mobile champions way outclass the others.

BrokenRayquaza3 votes

In a sense, yes, but also no.

Let's use Karthus and Leblanc as and example here. Karthus and LB are pretty similar. Both do high amounts of damage and have there own niches. However LB has some dumb amounts of mobility. But she also has high cd amd very little follow up damage. Karthus can burst people down just a little slower. But he doesn't have the same mobility OR high cd as LB. He also has that ult but still. So it depends on what is strength to you i guess

BLIGHTBRINGER11 votes

It's just that you have some champions run at you at mach-5 while you're just farming under tower who dives you, kills you or helps team-mate to kill you and escapes lol

MasterYi Warwick Hecarim Rakan Singed Rammus

ZackTheWaffleMan13 votes

Yi and Rakan are more like Mach 3, Singed and WW are more like Mach 4, and Hecarim is the only true Mach 5.

can't blame you though what with his Q being a channel now.

Honestly that needs to change. I was playing ziggs vs him yesterday and interrupted his ball every engage with my w. Fucking stupid if you ask me.

Pierce The Veal4 votes

What’s sad is hecarim is basically garbage right now, and relatively immobile compared to the other champions you listed, but he still gets used as an example as a strong mobile champion because he was strong for a season or two.

Mordekaiser

Snowman Arc2 votes

Well, they are all supposed to be balanced around the fact that they have or not have mobility. For example, Viktor has no mobility, apart from some MS boost on his Q that comes way later on, which is why he gets a shit ton of AP AoE ratios. LB also has big AP ratios and insane mobility, but doesn't have good AoE. Graves has good damage and moderate mobility, but doesn't have big ranges, while Lee Sin has a lot of mobility and some CC, and big ratios, but he's single target.

Generally, everything is a trade off. Mobility, damage ratios, base damages, AoE, supporting team members, utility-CC, defensive resources, range/melee etc. LB is one of the most mobile champions, Viktor has huge ratios, Azir (and Viktor) has a lot of AoE, Ashe has utility with her AAs, Janna has good supporting ability, Vladimir has defensive mechanisms like healing himself and becoming untargetable. All of them miss something, though.

Imagine someone with a lot of mobility, big AoE damage ratios with CC, being ranged and being able to protect themselves and allies.LOL.

Azir (mostly due to shurima shuffle)

And this is why he is kept at a 45% winrate. Cause anything higher and he is just way too strong.

Immobile champs tend to have less counterplay and be more stat checky tho.

around 420 (thanks to items)

nice

Champions with no haste, no mobility spell or effect, and low base movement speeds are pretty rare.

The only champions with 325 base MS and no mobility are Ashe and Anivia. Every other champion in her movement speed bracket has a haste, dash, blink, or at least a conditional haste. The only such champions with 330 base MS are Lux, Syndra, and Varus. 335: Annie, Malzahar, Morgana.

Every one of these champions is a very safe laner, a lane bully, or both, and has lots of reliable crowd control and a good late game. Only Lux and Syndra ever really fall out of the meta, too, leaving the other eight champions reliable in any season. I think they’re pretty strong.

The ‘mobility creep’ meme is just that. All melee champions have gap closing mobility or long engage range, and they’re half the roster. Many ranged champions are at least semi-mobile, like Taliyah, or conditionally mobile, like Jinx. Pretty much all champions have some way of moving faster than a walk, and Riot has been designing them to have one from the beginning.

Edited to Reflect Comments!

ZackTheWaffleMan9 votes

Orianna has a haste on her W. It's also a slow for enemies.

Champion Skin5 votes

All melee champions have gap closers

Chogath Nasus Darius TahmKench (he has no in combat mobility) Illaoi (assuming you don't count the "dash" on her W)

Non of those have any mobility so they have no reliable way of getting onto a target (though they are balanced around this because if they could easily close the gap on enemies they would be incredibly OP)
