Ways to win your jungler's undying love.

Believe it or not laners, your jungler does not exist only to assist your lanes. They are actually an important member of your team and it is to your benefit to help them in return.

I think most people see the only way they can interact with their jungler is for the jungler to gank, and the only way they can help this is to try and set up the gank through wave management, warding lane entrances, calling summoners and other important abilities, .. and don't get me wrong, those are good things for you to do, ...

But how can you go above and beyond for your jungler?

Deep wards - warding farther into the river will often help to spot out the enemy junger and roaming plays, especially against champions who have high mobility and/or other ways of avoiding the normal choke points. And not just the river, but entrances for the enemy jungle, or even your own jungle if the enemy jungler is invading a lot. If you can, try to even get some wards far enough into the jungle to spot camps. THE DEEPER THE BETTER (That's what she said)

What is the opposite of ganking? - COLLAPSING! - Please pay attention to your mini map and pings. If the enemy is spotted invading and your jungler is in the area, LEAVE YOUR LANE AND HELP. Also, if you see that your jungler is invading on your side of the map, be prepared to move toward them if they run into the enemy jungler.

I'm sure there are plenty of other ways that laners can actually help their jungler. (BEYOND WINNING / NOT LOSING YOUR LANE)

Lets hear them.

Lol, well yeah ... I guess I should have specified that I'm looking for ways that go beyond simply winning / not losing your lane.

I'm pretty sure the best way to win your Junglers undying love is to take every blue buff (including the first one that the side laner helped leash) and always leaving only one small chicken for them to clean up.

Actually, one of the ways to get your jungler ganking is to make the enemy look delicious.

Blow their flash, put them around 60% hp and pull the lane and ward the river. And the jungler will be there like a vulture in no time.

You're missing the point. Yes, that is PART of the jungler's role, but you can also help your jungler to in ways that don't directly help you win your lane.

Helping the jungler ... JUNGLE, means they are more likely to help you lane, and be more effective at it.

As a Jungle Player, i can confirm this would get me in your Lane faster than the Enemy can type "OMG im getting camped"

I'm not saying that isn't a thing that laners should do. I even said this in the original post.

I'm just saying that isn't all that laners can do to help the jungler.

For example, an enemy jungler caught invading with 40% health should also look like a very juicy target for laners.

Just let me focus on objectives. That's all I need. I have domination stacks to get so I'll gank soon enough, but I'm not going to waste my time ganking a lane just because you want to snowball and can't do it on your own. There's enemy junglers to track and there's dragons to be slain.

A little thing I like to do is help my jungler get camps done when I'm on my way somewhere, by giving the camp a few hits as I walk by or giving them a shield/heal.

I cannot join for a collapse if the wave is crashing into my turret, or I'll come back a level lower, probably a whole component item behind, and pretty much give up laning phase after that. Unless you camp my lane after that to help me catch up, and no, I don't trust any solo Q jungler to gank top lane ever. Which is fair because when I jungle, I don't either. Better investment still bot with dragon at stake.

As a top main/jungle sub, I really dislike mid laners taking my wraiths every single spawn on top of expecting blue. Top seems less prevalent with Krug taking, maybe lucky I'm not high elo to play with Fogged lol (no offense to that guy, I love his Trynd still). I've been revenging on that lately by taking minion dematerializer to swipe cannons specifically from mid laners for every camp they take :^)

Go counterjungle the enemy, not your own jungler.

When I play mid though, what I find works particularly well is doing a double gank on a lane, especially bot. It makes diving a lot safer to have 4v2 instead of 3v2, so I'll usually follow the jungler when he heads to gank if my wave is in a decent spot.

While I agree with you that you would be losing out on a lot of gold and experience by abandoning a wave that is crashing into your turret, and I did not mean to say that you should ALWAYS leave your lane to help no matter what, but I do think it is important to consider how much more difficult it will be for your jungler to help you when losing that encounter puts them behind.

So I guess if that happens, sure stay and farm your lane, .. but then don't get upset when the jungler is farming instead of ganking at a time when you are getting pressured.

Need Gold 4 Tent1 votes

Consider that:

  1. The reward is not guaranteed (depending on the enemy champ, you might only be able to chase them off the camps).

  2. The reward is split. That means while there is a net team gold, only part of that goes to myself aka my lane. This will only be an advantage if the jungler uses that advantage for my lane. In a 1v1 situation, I might have actually lost out when you take the exp into account. And as I said before, I don't trust solo Q junglers to gank top lane, so it is likely to remain a 1v1 situation and I prefer to at least stay even in that situation.

Elite4Runner1 votes

The same could be said for when a jungler ganks.

So just sit in your lane and farm, get a solo kill if you can, and don't EXPECT any ganks. I will gank if I am nearby at a time where success seems likely, but if your choice not to help me set me behind, I'm probably not going to go out of my way to help you while I'm trying to catch back up.

If you're fine with this, I'm fine with it.

The difference between a laner and a jungler being behind their counterparts is that the jungler at least does not have to interact with the enemy jungler 24/7.

When I as a laner fall behind a Darius, I am the one who has to face him the entire time in lane. Enemy junglers won't be invading 24/7, they may try to extend their lead by ganking lanes but they are not going to 1v1 you for the entire time. A jungler who falls behind can just farm like you said. A laner who falls behind cannot even do that.

Elite4Runner1 votes

Yeah, I'm not trying to say that it is more important to get the jungler ahead than to maintain control over your lane and your opponent.

I'm saying, if you expect for your jungler to be in a good position to help you win your lane, IT IS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE to help them WHEN YOU CAN. ..

If you can help, but don't .. you shouldn't expect them to be in a good position to help you right away when you need it.

A non-cannon wave is 105 gold for you. A kill/assist is 450 gold split between 2 people. While you will be put behind in exp, it is really a net gain for the team and it costs the enemy jungler time enough that they probably can't interfere with your winning lane for a bit. Moreover, if the ally jungler is strong (and competent), they can make more plays around the map, both for you and allies. When I'm strong, I'm always looking to make plays in lanes as I cycle my jungle, and making plays on objectives are soloable with a bit of map awareness on my part. When I'm weak as a jungler, everything is slower and too risky to do any sort of objective without help, which makes them harder to do.

My only complaint is if I'm pushed up to my tower, have no mana, and/or trying to keep the enemy mid from roaming themselves then please don't expect me to be much help. There's not gonna be a whole lot more I can do to help. I don't like being flamed because I couldn't collapse. Or if you're running away from me while being chased and I can't catch up to help. Otherwise, if I can help and I don't then by all means flame me.

Elite4Runner1 votes

Personally, I wouldn't say that you MUST collapse, any more than I would say that a jungler MUST gank, ....

However, there are many people that say a jungler must gank for them, .. so I believe those same people should be expected to collapse.

I wouldn't say that junglers are infallible, far from it, but I'm trying to point out how the expectation for who helps who is a little one-sided.

theChibiTina1 votes

Oh, heavens no. I know that there are two other lanes plus their jungle to worry about. I only get upset if I'm in a perfect gank position and the other lanes are fine and I don't get some assistance (and they're not behind). lol. Of course it helps that I learned this game from a Jungle main. So I have a basic understanding of the jungle position despite being a support main who's trying to improve at mid. :D

If a jungler comes to my lane whike not wanting help or engages with my entire kit on cd after a trade, and blames it on me for not helping him on the first place, then the only type of love he's getting from me is my ass.

Elite4Runner1 votes

Some people are into that. lol

Right, I understand. There are plenty of junglers who do not gank at the right time, similar to how there are plenty of laners who call for ganks at a bad time.

I should not be heading to gank top lane when I'm already on the opposite side of the map and the enemy has, or is establishing dragon pressure.

I shouldn't try to gank bottom lane when a full health duo and a double-minion wave is pushing toward our low health / low mana ADC who is over extended without vision control over the river. That is to say that the ADC shouldn't see me coming into that lane as a reason for them to turn and fight. I can definitely show up to allow them to escape or balance the wave. However, doing so is only a way to prevent the enemy from gaining an advantage. It does not help our team gain an advantage, and if there is another opportunity on the map that I can be at, I SHOULD abandon the ADC and go toward that objective instead.

It's very simple for laners to earn my undying love......DON'T FUCKIN FEED. Do that, and I guarantee that I will carry.

And to be clear, I don't define feeding as dying once in lane. Feeding is when you go 0-4 in lane and proceed to go 1-13 by the end of the game. It's unbelievable how many feeders there are in ranked. I get tired of making 10 reports a day for feeding.

Even then, there are situations where it is still to your advantage to let a wave crash to your tower in order to protect your jungler and their objectives.

You also need to keep in mind that you are dealing with people. As I suggested in the title, helping your jungle will "win their undying love" ... or it will at least improve their willingness to help.

Sometimes doing something that is not correct strategically, but will prevent your teammates from tilting, can be the only difference between winning and losing.

I just ping the enemy jung whenever i spot him so he knows where they are. Dropping pinks on enemy buffs is fun.

Elite4Runner1 votes

Pinging locations is helpful, but really only if they aren't paying attention to the mini map themselves.

Warding is great! ..., but trinket wards are better than control wards.

You generally only want to place a control ward in an area of the map that you have priority around.

Sometimes you can get away with it if you put the control ward in a bush that is not commonly checked, or if the jungler just isn't paying attention, but if they spot it, you're down 75g and they are up 30g.

That vision could amount to saving your life, or allowing for an invade that pays off, .. so you might want to be prepared to go into the enemy jungle with your jungler once the enemy jungler is spotted on that ward.

In that case, it could absolutely be worth it.
