Can we have Team Builder back?

I mean. It's basically the best mode for playing casual. I don't want to worry about bans or counter picks in my casual normals, but I also don't want the role calling rage fest that is blind pick. Team builder is perfect for casual play. 100% assured to get what you want, where you want. And you can get who you want on your team, face enemies who haven't counter picked and banned everything in the game, and even get mirror matches... which I personally enjoyed.

This is not a hate blind pick, draft pick or ranked thread. It just think team builder is THE best solution for casual play.

I definitely agree. It was very flexible, never had to call out, or deal with bans and counterpicking as you've said, plus, if someone doesn't want to deal with your shenanigans, or even a champion that they feel is bad, they can just opt out of your team. It was perfect for casual play.

I used to play a lot of blinds and a lot of teambuilder, and honestly being able to ban or to see annoying champs coming and counter-pick them is much less frustrating to play with.

no pls i still have nightmares about the 30 min wait times and then people kicking me because my name

100% assured to get what you want, where you want.

I don't think I ever got what I wanted from Team Builder.

  • I was never able to change my pick if I saw a teammate's champion I could synergize better with
  • I was never able to roll a random role
  • I was never able to roll a random champion
  • I was almost always put into mirror matchups
  • I was almost always waiting crazy long to get a full team, only to have a player dodge for no reason

Team Builder was worse than Blind Pick in almost every way, which is why almost no one moved to it. With Draft Pick taking over role preference, even fewer people would feel the need to play Team Builder now than use to play it. Taking away Blind Pick and replacing it with Team Builder would only create a worse experience overall.

Almost all of those can be changed if they try to make teambuilder again. First one should be simple enough. For second one, a "fill" option can be added. Random champion can be fixed if you could also choose to change champions for synergy.

Mirror matchup is an actual issue, and I'm not sure if it's right to just force the system to avoid mirror matches (it will mean longer queue time for meta picks, so those in pick/ban tier will never get to play their champions). Replacing the blind queue may fix this, although I'm not entirely sure if that's a good idea.

Queue time was partly an issue because there was no flexibility (no change in roles or champions). Changing that may help.

Plus the team captains kicking three or four support queuers because they don't like their champ pick, making everyone wait 30 god damn minutes to play a match.

Yes please. I still haven't got all the team builder icons yet.

This assassin icon is the best thing to ever happen. Strangely enough I only got it 2 months after Team Builder was removed.

Yes, please add it back. Not because of bans or not getting my lane, because I can see what people will play and make combos.

I.E. I go Zac and want Riven on top lane. What do I do? I skip through lobbies until I get a Riven. I wish Teambuilder was back.

Wimbledofy3 votes

by the time you find a riven top laner you could have played 3 games already

LatetotheRace1 votes

Not right now lol, they're all over the place lol. If you were looking for a Maokai top lane though....

DOES NOONE REMEMBER THE 30 MINUTE QUEUE TIMES ASSOCIATED WITH TEAM BUILDER

Support main here

Strawberrycocoa1 votes

Support mains were the ONE role that didn't have to deal with Teambuilder's bullshit. XD

50000000000000001 votes

I could also pick more off meta stuff and people would still take me over no support.

Xerath support was fun. I abused the bug where his W proc'd 2 spellthief stacks when I hit the middle, but it got fixed :/

LatetotheRace1 votes

Before they disabled it yeah, that was what it had gotten to. (DQ anyone?)

Ace Access 2 votes

yes it also adjusted matchmaking with whether or not you've played that particular champ a lot or just bought it... it was perfect for trying to master new champs

Maximum Morde1 votes

Actually that was a flaw. I'd go in and dumpster the shit out of people because I play on so many accounts it always thought my champ was a newer champ for me as I'd play it on other accounts, then go to team builder on a diffefent account once I was good with it for easy domination.

Teambuilder was so much fun for playing and not giving a fuck. i had over 2000 games in it.

LatetotheRace1 votes

How? I don't remember it being up for that long.

warpenguin5551 votes

Easy. I was an extreme no life. Let have been averaging like 200 games or so month.

I like Dynamic Queue more than Teambuilder. It doesn't take forever to queue a match when you pick popular roles the way Teambuilder did. And Teambuilder had this problem of people being too god damned picky with people's champion choices. It was impossible to try off-meta or unusual champ picks because the team captain would just kick you instead of taking a gamble that you weren't trolling the match.

In Dynamic Queue, I can pick the role I want and for the most part pick who I want to play and if people want to be prissy fucks about my champion pick their only option is to leave and eat a wait time to re-queue, or rage and troll the match out of spite and get reported. New system is much less frustrating to work with and much more enabling of freedom to pick champions you wish to play.

I suppose the question is then what it would replace?

i'll quote a post i made back when new draft mode had just replaced teambuilder:

I do agree with what you say [note: i was answering a guy who was asking to keep the new normal draft AND teambuilder], but i would rather avoid having too much queues, which would make waiting times even longer. On the other hand, even if we bring back TB as it was, we can't really remove any other queue because of how different they are. In particular, TB and blind pick are different because you play the first when you want to play a certain champion in a certain role, but maybe sometimes you will want to play blind because you don't feel like choosing beforehand.

So here is my idea: we keep 2 queues, new draft mode and new blind mode.

new draft mode is the one they are testing right now, so there is nothing to add here new blind mode will replace blind mode. New blind mode would be very similar to new draft mode, as in you can pre-select your role or fill (maybe giving you the chance to choose only 1 role, though), but it will be different because once your team is assembled it works just like blind mode, which means you don't get picks like in draft mode and there are no bans: you choose the champion you want, and you don't see the enemy team until the game starts. This way you can either choose beforehand what you want to play or simply go in with the fill option. Because of this, we don't need to keep TB and blind mode as 2 separate queues anymore. The only scenario where you can't actually play the champion you want is if someone else on your team select that champion before of you for the role he's been assigned to (example: you go in as supp and want to play poppy, but another guy who entered the team as top select poppy faster than you). However, that shouldn't happen that often, and is still way better than when TB didn't exist at all, since at least you are sure that you will get the role you wanted. It's a bit of a flaw compared to TB, but i think it's acceptable, because we get lower waiting time in exchange. You probably won't agree with this, though... it's a matter of personal preferences, in the end.

So basically a queue similar to TB because you can choose even only 1 role and there aren't bans, but that gives you the option to also choose more than 1 role, or even fill (which means it's more flexible than TB and allows sensibly shorter waiting time) and it post-pone your champion choice to after the team is assembled, so if you want you can choose your pick based on your team composition (because sometimes i didn't really like playing TB exactly because i didn't want to have to choose booth my role AND champion beforehand, and i don't think i was the only one).

Some of my best solo games have been in TB, I really miss it.

UrplePurple1 votes

I miss team builder.

Toa of Death1 votes

I really liked how it encouraged you to try new champs cause it would adjust matchmaking if you had very few games on a champ.

LatetotheRace1 votes

Tbh I don't think that did anything.

Catastrop1 votes

As long as we keep Normal Drafts as is.

Leetri1 votes

I wanted to like Team Builder, but after taking 15-30 minutes every time to start a game and having to settle with like LeBlanc support to even be able to play at all that evening, I'm glad that new champion select replaced it. It's a good idea in theory, but it didn't work out because not enough people played it.

MonkeyMadness1 votes

My experience was that teambuilder was riddled with toxic players, way more so than any other queue. I'm not sure why, but it eventually turned me off to the idea entirely.

LatetotheRace1 votes

Because you could always secure that assassin mid pick. You then had grumpy players who wanted to play a troll pick but kept getting booted so when they got a game they went FULL troll.

Strawberrycocoa2 votes

The power of captains to boot players was the most frustrating part of Teambuilder, honestly.

LatetotheRace1 votes

Well I'd rather not see a Shyvana mid. It was a necessary prospect of team builder and it prevented the full on trolls that you often see in blind pick.

nintentwins1 votes

I miss team builder too, it used to be all I played. At the same time though, I feel happy enough with new champ selects draft pick.

Mainly because I no longer have to pick Veigar in something like tb then get completely screwed when it turns out I'm laning against a Zed

I miss being able to always get what I want, yeah. But having bans is a great tradeoff imo, because now I can ban counterpicks or people I personally find it annoying to face.

LatetotheRace1 votes

Despite having 100 million active accounts there are apparently just not enough players... how bizarre.

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

So,

Ranked, Draft Pick Normals, and Teambuilder instead of Blind Pick?

Maximum Morde1 votes

If you think queue times are bad now...

Team builder has no real place anymore with new champ select. It's basically team builder but without the things that made team builder bad.

Want a quick match? -> Blind pick.

Anything else? -> Draft. It has bans so less cancer, no getting kicked for off meta, get what you want within reason so there aren't(as many) 1+ hour wait times.

I just have a really hard time seeing team builder be able to pull matches in any kind of reasonable time because it's really only going to siphon off of draft, but even back when we didn't have new champ select it was longer in queue than you actually played half the time.
