People who think Voice Coms will improve League

Mira Arya Enthe··329 votes·10,511 views

Have never played Halo, GoW, Graw, TF2, CoD, CS:GO or any other PvP game with voice communications (many of these games must have it due to format, lack of pings and no keyboard). It is worst of all on Free To Play games like this.

What you will get: Mouth breathers Foreign langauges The guy who thinks everyone wants to hear his music The shitty $2 mic Dogs barking Yelling family members The sports playing in the background Screaming flamers The guy who yells one profane word all game over and over The kid yelling at his mom to make him a PBJ Kids trying to swear and sound cool The voice emulator "girl" who acts hot The guy that moans all game The people who spam yell instructions at you Everyone thinking they are team "captain" People having screaming arguments about KDAs and plays People discriminating against people's voices or speech patterns 11 year old voices cracking "AHH GET SHIT ON SCRUBS!" Morality speeches from support players People blasting your ears out anytime they die/get a kill "GAAAAANKKSS WTF!" Vocalized The guy who plays the game and voices over his speakers and uses a mic The person who intentionally feedbacks the audio when doing bad The person who blares porn over the mic

How it will affect teamplay: Fewer people will properly use pings and chat People in voice chat will buddy up against those not using it The one out of 100 lucky team to properly utilize it will stomp the other Lag More intentional trolling/feeding

Benefits it will bring: Once on a blue moon a team will use it correctly and get slightly boosted performance.

For me. I have no interest in hearing it, using it, having it used or knowing it exists. I'd rather immerse myself in the game and music, and have fun. Playing competitive games with voicecom before it is pure cancer and is NEVER used right. The only people who think it is good at either delusional ones who think anybody was paying attention to the orders they barked or genuinely ignorant people who have never played games with voicecoms. It is all the immaturity of the Internet and shitty personalities pounded into your ear with a 1/100 game benefit that will split communication ruining teamplay further.

#For those saying what has already been addressed "Mute" doesn't fix what happens to the now divided communication system voice chat would create. The options are:

A: Deal with cancer.

B: Turn it off and deal with reduced communication as people forget what pings and chat is.

C: Selectively mute 99% of people encountered.

Whereas no voice chat everyone is on an even playing field for communication with pings and chatbar. Things far less toxic where the worst you get is "?" Ping or some easily ignored text without breaking game immersion.

You summed up why I will not even consider opting in voice comms perfectly. The fact that people will act this way and have acted this way in many other voice com games is more than enough to convince me that this would be a terrible idea.

The worst thing is that it will shatter communication even more in League like you said. Because people like me will not use this, and the people who will will completely ignore chat and will rarely use pings and expect us to follow their lead because they're expecting everyone to be in voice coms. It's just like with Discord. Just look at people that queue together using Discord and see how well they communicate with the rest of their team. It won't even solve the problem it's supposedly solving.

If they add this, they better give us an option to disable it from the client so I will never have to deal with this.

Keevalroy12 votes

Disabling doesn't help. That just means people that do use it can't communicate with you. So what if they actually having something useful to say like a warning of your lane being ganked? You didn't hear anything, and you're in danger because of it. Now consider the situation where you are using it, find the stereotypical Xbox rager, mute them, but only you and one other person muted them. They're still screaming unintelligible nonsense while you and the other guy are trying to make calls. The other two teammates don't hear anything over the shrieking, and they don't know what the plan is.

I know Riot wants to put this in since Tryndamere is still under this delusion of grandeur that League will be a global sport that lasts generations, and sports have good communication, but this simply won't end well. Those who want voice chat can find third party platforms to use - don't force it on everyone.

TyrekGoldenspear6 votes

Well then this would break communication like I mentioned in my original comment.

We can clearly see evidence of this in Discord premades. The players out of the loop rarely if ever get real communication.

Imo, if you want voice com, use Discord. They went through a lot of work to reduce overhead anyway.

Besides, using chat improves your WPM.

I can't wait for all of the buyer's remorse if voice chat is integrated. If only someone would have been there to warn you guys. If only there were a group of people who have played games with voice coms to remind people what to expect. If only there were examples of what voice chat does a competitive game...oh wait, there was...for multiple years since this started being a topic of discussion.

The best thing to expect from this is those same people who have been wanting voice chat since season 3 immediately wanting it gone after they find out what they've done. Congratulations guys, here's your prize: ear cancer! Aww you don't want it after all? That's a damn shame ain't it since it's all your fault it's here. You were even kind enough to give it to everyone!

First thing i do in every league game for 2 years now is to mute/all. That helped me reaching diamond, for real now. Why would i even want to listen to their voices? I immediately mute EVERYONE in overwatch. Horrible experience and the community is by far not as bad as the LoL community. My first real online game was CSS back wheni was like 12. There was a fine program to use your own sounds and such, guess what we abused it for hitler speeches, our shitty music and everything possible. And we weren't the first, only and last ones to abuse it. As i see it we were atleast funny in a dark humor way but the ear cancer i got from mass effect 3 online and overwatch shows me that especially the league community is NOT fit for voice comms. Hell even modern warfare 2 was when it all started. Fifa online the same. Battlefield. It was not voice chat but even in SwTor when i joined TS for a random lowie raid i went with for the lulz there were several extremely loud, annoying and aggressive people and that's something very rare for MMOs from my experience and it's the same kind of people who flame: shit at the game, blame others and in league even more so.

I would literally rather wade through chest-high puke and shit than have voice comms in League.

They better give us the option to turn that shit off. I don't want to have to mute everyone at the start of every fucking game.

Malicious Metal15 votes

As someone who almost exclusively plays league with voice coms when playing with friends; Don't add this feature.

As great as it is to just chat with friends nobody wants to connect with random strangers. Nobody.

Not to mention: My velvety voice is only meant for a chosen few ears ~

Dreadlocks13 votes

and best of all a MUTE FEATURE for those people. isn't that great? it's like idk, a more efficient way than typing but u can still mute them. crazy...

Ralanr31 votes

People would justify it as refusing to communicate. You'd basically be asking them to type it up rather than talk.

People don't do that. I've played games where I'm in a chat room with someone and playing with teammates that are not. I'll usually forget to actually type stuff to my team because I probably already said it to my friend in the chat room.

Sure you could justify voice chat built into league, but imo it's not worth it and we can already use apps like discord for friends.

Dreadlocks4 votes

people can refuse to communicate anyways. I used voice chat on dota 2 and very rarely did I have an issue. if I did I muted them. it ultimately made the experience easier. how many times have u had teammates fight over Mia pings only to see that they DID Mia ping but the other player didn't notice it? then just get 2 people mad over the rest of the game. whereas if voice communication was a thing u could just press a key, "talon is roaming bot right now " and bam instant knowledge... easy to hear easy to adapt with. etc... if people were given more tools to positively work together, perhaps some of the issues we have right now wouldn't exist. at least not as bad. Perhaps in ur experience it's been bad, but for me in dota, it was fantastic. why? cuz people wanted to fkn win.

lol so if we are muting 99.99999999999 percent of the scum in voicechat why have it . It never ever encourages teamwork in shooters or overwatch

Different experiences give different views.

Mira Arya Enthe25 votes

More so the video is literally called "Finally a team I can communicate with" implying something I already covered. 1/100 games you'll have good voice coms. It isn't worth 99/100 being shit.

Ahristocats8 votes

indeed, which is why i'm laughing at this bullshit "i played this and this and this and i know more than you"

everyone has his own experience my win rate in dota2 increased from 49% to 58% after i started using the voice chat

it's far easier to use than any ping or any words on chat

if people don't want to use it they disable it or mute people that's all...

no need to create an entire thread and downvote people with smurfs because they want that feature

Mira Arya Enthe14 votes

Guess Tidal Tyrant commenting above he doesn't want it is a smurf. And Tyrek. And Ralnar. Stiffpickle. Keevalroy. It is impossible people just disagree with you and are passionate on the topic. Have you seen the number of sunk ADC and Riven threads I have had? Did I accuse everyone of being a smirf of Big Lincoln downvoting me for some Juggernaut agenda? No. People have different views as Ralnar said. And in this case voicecom is so often the outlet of anger and immaturity that a good number of people dislike the idea of splitting communication.

I personally have never had a problem with voice comms in team games. It actually struck me as odd that League didn't have it.

Honestly, it still does. I play DotA2 and Overwatch fairly regularly and use the voice comms there just fine and it's jarring to even just mess around on League and only be able to ping if I'm not in a position to type my intent.

A lot of people dislike voice comms, but a lot of people like it. Is what it is, on both sides.

Only Play Darius12 votes

Voice comm is mainly a console necessity where you have no keyboard or smart pings. Completely unnecessary in League and will degrade the experience.

Almighty12 votes

I was going to compose a thread regarding the matter of Voice coms in League, but i guess you beat me to it.

You mentioned everything i was going to, and more.

You have earned my upvote.

P.S: How is Riot going to figure out who has been toxic and who not if Voice chat becomes a thing? People send false reports all the time and Riot certainly cannot keep recordings of all voice chats on all games.

Almighty.

Mecha MaIphite10 votes

People blasting your ears out anytime they die/get a kill "GAAAAANKKSS WTF!" Vocalized

I'd probably end up doing this a lot.

I don't flame in chat to keep morale up (and to avoid chat restrictions) but I vent out loud all the time. It's become kind of an instinctive thing at this point, and being in voice chat doesn't change much.

DrCyanide9 votes

How it will affect teamplay: Fewer people will properly use pings and chat

And that's my concern big. I'm slightly more hopeful that teams will be able to use it correctly, but I just don't see how muting someone will be a viable option when people start using pings less and less.

To anyone who says people will still ping, I invite you to look at Ranked and tell me how many people play all 5 roles at a proficient level, just one year after it was basically a requirement to play. Complaints about being asked to do what was second nature a year ago abound. To say that pings will somehow survive in better shape is wishful thinking.

Limmie9 votes

Don't forget that voice chat is unmoderated, so it will probably be even more toxic than text.

Hauling Ashe9 votes

Agreed. I don't want this in League. I don't want it to be expected of me to participate in comms on League and therefore miss out on pings and other messages just because I didn't want to deal with the snot-nosed mouth breather on the other end.

freeloader258 votes

you forgot "you can flame teammates without dying because you typed for an entire minute" as benefit! /s

but yeah, i dont like the idea of voice comms aswell.. i dont want to hear the same amount of flame i otherwise would see in the chat and especially i dont need 12 year old voices or french accent while listening to it. but it would definitely allow for some funny moments when suddenly your 0-5-0 toplaner who died again would be like "question mark ping! question mark ping! question mark ping!" to the jungler in voice chat or start a passive agressive live commentary on the other players while being dead. annoying: yes, but at least more creative than "fk jungler no gank me afk bb" in chat i guess.

Mizuki Zahra8 votes

just watch some streamers go crazy over losses on youtube and that's exactly what voice chat will be....I will not use voice chat I like my Skype and my friends on Skype no need to ruin league with voice waste of resources

More specifically voice coms with randoms is what you are describing. Voice comes with people you play with regularly is the experience people tend to imagine when they say we need them built in.
