ELO Mismatches In Regular Play

So, I have had more than a few games recently where I have faced people with significantly higher ELOs than mine. I am a Bronze ELO player and I know it. I don't care too much about my ELO personally, because I don't play this game to be the very best, I just play it to have fun. The problem is, when I have to play people who are much better than me, I'd rather not play at all.

For instance, in a recent game, the enemy team had a Gold V Rengar. While I felt that I played well against my laning opponent, he was so much better than me in every facet, and with a champ like Rengar, skill mismatches are significantly highlighted. I was 3/1/1 with a 40 CS lead on my opposing laner, and I took my tower, but it didn't matter, because their Rengar was just so much better than me. It's frustrating to know that no matter how well I play, I will always lose, and lose badly, because the enemy team has that one player that can beat the rest of us.

I'm not even mad at Rengar. He was just playing the game, and playing it well, like he knows how to. I'm upset with how I could be pitted against someone so much better than me, like a white belt being forced to fight a purple belt. I don't know what can be done about this problem with ELO mismatches, but it is seriously ruining my experience.

What time and day was it? Because at late hours specially on workdays, due to limited people it becomes messy. Here at EUNE, after 2-3 in the night i have come across Diamond and Master players as Gold.

I sympathize with you. I have about 80% or more of my games played against someone who is at least 1 full tier above me (silver>gold+). The people I usually play with are from unranked to my level, S5, and infrequently with a g5 and rarely with a p5. The games played with these 2 are so uncommon that they shouldn't affect my mmr.

I see these discrepancies the larger my group becomes. When we hit 4-man or a full team, plats and above are far more frequent, and usually accompanied with a full team of other bronze and silvers, putting my team at a distinct disadvantage.

One such game was our 4-man, of high bronze and our gold 5 friend. The enemy had 2 golds, 2 and 5, and a P5, completely tilting the match in the enemies favor. Another, our 4-man of high bronze, low silver, versus a team of low silver and a D4. Or low silvers versus low golds. The list goes on.

In some instances, I notice the inverse. We have a gold 4 on our team. The enemy has low silver and a level 14. Sometimes it actually tries to correct the problem by giving my team a d5 and the enemy 3 mid golds.

The rank MMR needs to have some impact on the normals MMR to give more balanced match ups. If rank doesnt allow a gold to play with bronze, then why the hell is normals allow bronze versus diamond?

Yea regular play match making is really poor I feel your pain. Its part of the reason I don't try to introduce new friends to this game. Once you get close to 30 the game assumes your gold/plat level forever when a lot of players are just new and can't compete with the average bronze player. Then even if you are lower elo you still have random parings of players on each team.

My main has like 1100 normal wins and only a 50% normal win rate so my normal match making is good. I get placed with all silver/gold players most games, which is perfect since I am a gold 4 elo player. But it took years and many normal games to get there.

I know on this account if I play normal a vast majority of the enemy team is plat/gold. Which is fine for me since Its an alternate account and I can compete with those players. I would have to check but feel my normal mmr and record on this account is still close to 50% though maybe its higher to 60% and that's why. Not really sure just know normal game mmr is wack and since a lot of people play normal with friends the rank variance of players can differentiate drastically.

Was this a normal game? Because normal MMR and ranked MMR are different... So that Gold Rengar might have played a lot of ranked games and got a lot better and then returned to play lower than his caliber. Not the greatest system having two different ones but it is what it is.

It was a normal game.

While skill mismatches are a problem, one player cant singlehandedly carry the game without some type of support from their team, that's why elo hell is a thing, because its impossible to carry 1v9. So this wasn't really JUST rengar deciding the game, his team was just better.

Regardless, the MMR mismatch made for a negative experience, whether of not that was the reason that they won is irrelevant. My in game experience was negatively affected by it.

Yeah I kind of think they should have ranked mmr have priority over normal mmr if you have enough ranked games played. That still doesn't really help though when you try playing with friends that are new to the game, when you do that either you're going to be the asshole that stomps everyone who has no clue how to play, or you'll be your team's only defense against the asshole on the other team who is stomping your own clueless teammates. Either way your friends don't learn how to play since you're doing everything.

Normals is not dependent on your ranked mmr. I am currently Plat 5 and until the last few normal games I have been play against Silver 4-2 mmr opponents. The reason is that until a year ago my ranked mmr was around Silver 2-1 and I didn't play much better than the other Silvers I was placed with you get more than 50% win rate and raise my normal mmr. Now I am utterly destroying opponents in normals my mmr has finally gone up but I am still only facing mid to low gold elo because I was a silver player for so long. This rengar was probably bronze most of the time he played normals so his normal mmr will place him with opponents he shouldn't be placed with.

my advice is to wait and pray for next season and play ARAM in the meantime

don't play normals, that is all.

I am freaking silver and I face diamonds in normal games very often, that is why normals are for casuals.
