When I press my ultimate spell Kled, Panth, Nocturne, Twisted Fate, Xerath, Ziggs, probably some more, or just when you hover over the spell when you have quick cast, you see an INDICATOR that shows how far you can cast the spell. You see the indicator on the map and the on the actual Field of Justice.
Sion's R just shows indicator on map, and it can be hard to use to engage on. And fix his Q hitbox it hits wierd, on the edges.
Sion's ult is supposed to be half guesswork. It ties into the theme of a blind charge. You see the enemy is really far away, but still within charging distance, so you start charging. You have no idea what the situation is going to be once you get there. Also, there is a ring indicator for both minimap and the rift, if you unlock your camera you can actually see it
I don't have problems engaging with only the minimap indicator.
And what's wrong with the edges specifically? Are they not knocking up or are they?
