[Discussion] Am I the only one that thinks Jayce is kind of "meh" right now?

Jayce is currently sitting at a 48.7% win rate in top lane.

For someone that builds straight Lethality (which is supposed to be busted on conventional Assassins), Jayce is apparently not doing too hot right now.

Most of his early poke (which is one of his only strengths) can be completely negated by Doran's Shield + Bone Plating + Second Wind + Revitalize, in Mid game he's severely outclassed by Assassins who does his job better and in the late game he's practically useless - blowing up in almost an instant in teamfights.

His basic kit isn't that bad, but lack of an impactful ultimate and a "real" passive seems to be limiting him somewhat.

Am I the only one thinking this? What do you guys think about the current state of Jayce?

I barely see him being played anymore in high-elo, but still find that he deals incredible damage with the E+Q combo once he gets item 3134

Might be the fact that toplaner is invaded by fighters / skirmishers that can delete him while building tanky (armor when a bit stacked hard counters lethality and Jayce isn't mobile), and playing him midlane would result in crippling yourself since as you said, assassins do his job better. I don't believe he's weak, I believe it's the state of the game pushing him out of the meta since his role wouldn't be useful and truly defined

It's kind of ironic - we're in a meta where high damage burst champions are the most viable and yet Jayce is still doing horribly.

Because his damage are sortta delayed, he has to hit E+Q, then go in (remember his lethality makes him squishy) and finish-off the target. Why would you do this when you can instantly delete a target as Talon Leblanc Zed Katarina and run away safely

TLDR about what I said : his role isn't valuable in this meta, since most assassins can waveclear better, deal better damage, be safer, etc

I don't think I like metas where Jayce is doing well. His empowered bullet deals massive damage to anything not building tanky, so he can sleep in the gutter a bit longer for all I care.

I can get where you're coming from - I don't like laning against good Jayce players either.

But it's a bit sad that a unique champion like him that's basically 2 champions in one is doing so poorly.
