Please tell me what the secret is to climbing ranks. One does not simply just get good and climb ranks. because i know people who try that and there are stuck in silver like me. I really want to get to gold or plat this season. Im willing to do whatever it takes.

Git gud.

Just kidding. Well i am silver 1 for now, but i think i can give you some advice (my overall win rate atm is a comfortable 56%, with over 200 ranked games) that i found in yt videos, that i have applied and allowed me to climb from b4 to where i am atm, and i am sure that ill probably achieve high gold/low plat this season. So first of all, you need to find a champion that is strong, is barely played in ranked and therefore has a low ban rate (irelia for example, before her buffs she had a really low ban rate). This will allow you to play it really often. If you like playing the champ you choose, it's even better. Next, spam it in normals, to get used to a lot of different match ups and to know how to play against them. Final step, make different rune pages for those different match ups. For example, i play mid a lot, so i have a rune page for AD assassin vs Mages, one for AD vs another AD assassin, one for a mage vs an AD assassin and so on. It doesnt only depends on the match up but also on what their team comp is made of (mostly AD? Mostly AP? Too much tanks?) Finally dont stop playing this champ because you lose some matches with it (or maybe stop becasue youre just not good with it? That's ok, it happens, find a new pony!). If the champion is strong and you play it properly, you'll win more than you will lose. You win some, you lose some, thats the way it goes. But you need to win more. Also there's all the classic stuff about warding cleverly, have some decent game sense for it, roam, csing... I don't remember how many times i warded a mid lane bush as the ennemy jungler was about to gank me. Pinks are good too.

TL;DR Be a (clever) one trick pony

Honestly, I just spent a good bit of time watching educational Diamond/Master streams, listening to their advice and examining why they made certain decisions and their consequences.

Unfortunately, I live at home and can't play frequently (I get ~5 games a week by staying up until about 4am on Friday and Saturday, maybe get additional game(s) if everyone is out of the house). Nonetheless, I just try to apply what I have learned over the years when I do manage to play and am solidly a high Platinum player.

I would recommend working on your fundamentals, such as decision-making and basic mechanics, since those will be the most influential for every game and every champion.

Some items that I generally recommend players work-on:

  • Last-hitting minions (to secure gold income)
  • Wave management (know how to push, how to freeze, when to push/freeze, when you can safely roam, when it is safe to proxy)
  • Rotations (when should you roam, where you should be at certain times)
  • Objective prioritization (When certain objectives are safe to take, which are more important at certain times, etc)
  • Trading in lane (knowing how to abuse cooldowns, knowing when you can make a favourable trade, knowing how to use minions to your advantage, managing health and mana)
  • Item builds (knowing how to adapt to the situation, knowing what advantages items provide in certain situations or match-ups, knowing how to build when ahead or behind [as a team and individually])
  • Recognizing when a certain champion doesn't really suit you (i.e. you can't reliably carry with them or you don't have a good win-rate)
  • Learn when certain rune/mastery set-ups are beneficial. I mention this because I can see you use Windspeaker's Blessing on Darius and Illaoi and you use Grasp of the Undying on Pantheon; there are more efficient set-ups.
  • Learn proper pathing (how to rotate efficiently for farm, what route to take to cut off the enemy escape or intercept them)
  • Warding positions for certain situations (i.e. split-pushing, contesting dragon or baron, providing vision when sieging a tower)
  • Kiting (as both melee and ranged champions) - Basically, repositioning after each basic attack to create or reduce distance.

If you have any more specific questions or want clarification, feel free to ask.

Edit: As Joe La Frite mentioned, try to learn (in a general sense) how every role players. This will help you predict how certain match-ups play out, how both your enemies and allies will react to certain situations (i.e. Allied Bot tower falls -> Ally ADC Freezes, enemy bot lane and allied support roam mid).

This is especially important if you are a jungler, since you can recognize which matchups would benefit from or require help, when enemies are likely to take certain actions (i.e. ward, push, roam) and how to play out the game.

I main Jungle and Top. As a jungler, I have managed to get so many free kills by simply predicting then the enemy top laner is going to ward the river bush and getting into it about 5 seconds before he tries to ward it. I have gotten more by knowing when the minion wave will push into our territory, leaving them overextended and vulnerable.

^ This. Also, what did make a huge diffrence for me in addition to what you mentionned, is i learnt how to play every role decently. That allowed me to know what's in the mind of an adc in the different situations of a game, same with every other roles. If you roughly know what everyone in your team is thinking about, your decisions will be better for all your team. Basically, it makes you a better teammate. Knowing every champion's kit helps a lot too, you can guess when a champ will throw a skillshot at you so can dodge it, or participating in a wombo combo

I probably should have included that, honestly. While I learned quite a bit of it as my preferences rotated between roles over the years, I did spend quite a bit of last season filling in roles aside from my mains.

Varus ADC and Ziggs mid helped carry me to Platinum, even though I mained Top and Jungle.

Editted my post to include it.

  1. Have strong basics, such as CSing skills. You need to be able to last hit well with every champion you play. Aim for at least 180 CS by 20 minutes.
  2. Try to die no more than 5 times a game (this can vary a bit, especially if you're playing tank).
  3. If you do well in lane, either roam and help your other lanes, or keep pushing your lane to maintain pressure.
  4. Stay positive and don't flame teammates who are doing poorly.
  5. Ward, ward, buy pink wards, place wards, love wards.
  6. Watch streams/videos of higher elo players who do commentary.

Is gold high rank? Well you get my input either way.

Get good and so forth is one thing but not terribly useful advice, since you should always be improving your mechanics at all levels of play.

My advice is to really try to adapt to your team, versus necessarily try to emulate high elo/LCS play, since trying to do the 'right' thing isn't necessarily for the best if your adc will try to 1v5 the moment you leave them. Generally try to figure out who on the team actually can take care of themselves, and play around that. Depending on your role/champ, either let them do their thing and hang around the less competent folk trying to keep them from feeding while the good person splits or whatever, or hang around the competent person and help them carry (via peeling/healing/shielding/etc).

Secondly, don't try to make risky plays and don't get greedy. Everyone can be relied upon to make mistakes until diamond+, so just play safe and punish the opposing teams mistakes when they happen. That doesn't mean don't be aggressive, just make sure you've got wards and similar and aren't at risk of actually dieing. If your team isn't warding well/at all, don't go out into unwarded territory and then blame the team when you get ganked, just go where it's safe to go and farm what you can. You'll eventually get big, and since you've avoided giving up any deaths the opposing team won't have had the chance to get big off you (occasionally they're big off a teammate, but you can only really focus on yourself). Plenty of mechanically decent people end up with just 'ok' kdas so they might be 11/7/5 or something, and while they might be individually ahead, those 7 deaths might have been enough to make an enemy big enough to start farming a teammate instead. So play safe.

Plenty of perfectly winnable games I've seen thrown because people get impatient over the lack of teamfighting and just safely clearing, so don't be that person who makes an unsafe engage as a carry and then blames the team for not fighting. The opposing team will screw up and make their own mistake eventually, so be patient.

I have a few pieces of advice myself to share.

It was mentioned earlier that you should choose champs to use all the time. This really is key to improving your win rate. You want to find a champion that you synergize real well with for each position that you play. Back in season 5, this would be 5 champs, but with new champ select, you can limit it to two. Some advice on choosing champs to main though. The best ones are generally going to be bruisers since they can build somewhat tanky while doing damage and you constantly run into teams that are going to want to be all squishy. Also, champs that excel at one on one combat aren't going to be as useful for improving your winrate as teamfight champs so champs with AoE damage and CC are prefered. Your selected champs don't have to fall into this category if you highly synergize with something else instead, but I think these categories just help improve win rate.

Also, since dynamic queue was released, while it's significantly slower to climb solo, if you're smart, you can actually climb a lot faster than in previous seasons. The trick is not to just queue up with friends, but with people that are actually skilled. In every ranked match you play, keep an eye out for anybody who truly carries on either team. If somebody on the enemy team is single handedly winning the game for their team, don't do the bronze thing and start whining about how their champ is broken or something stupid like that. Do the intelligent thing and just straight up kiss their ass till they have a good opinion of you. Then after game, send a friend request and ask if they would play ranked with you. If you make a section on your friends list for really good ranked players and play with them as much as possible, you'll climb much faster than in previous seasons.

Other than that, there's a ton of gameplay advice. Once a tower goes down in a side lane, it doesn't matter if it is yours or theirs, the best thing to do is to push the minion wave till it goes the other direction and head mid. Remember that junglers are going to generally target people who extend past the half way point in their lanes and people with low health. So if you find yourself in this situation, keep an eye on your wards, and if you don't have any, either hang behind the half way point till you do have a ward or go back to heal. It seems that over 90% of the time, the team that groups better seems to win the game, so do as much as you can to ward or push fast so that you can stay grouped.

Play 1 champion over and over again. (I'm not high elo but that's what a lot of high elo players do. I'm only Plat 2 right now.)

Last season was my first time trying ranked, and I got into Silver II (is that good? XD)

I really want to make it to at least gold V this season but idk if that will even be possible..last year I got put with so many toxics who affected some of my games. For example, I was supporting a toxic ashe who would stand still while typing in chat about how we all suck. MEanwhile, the enemy Blitz kept getting free grabs off of her while she was typing. (I got a message after sayig she was punished which felt good but still).

I feel like I'm an ok player. I'm best with support, but I can adc and top well too and I have more than one champ for each role. Mid I can do but I am terrible against Zed.

I'm very cautious and I try not to die too much just in case it does look at kda when deciding your rank. I think I went either 5 for 5 wins/losses or 6 wins 4 losses last year, don't remember which.

Tbh, the biggest problem I saw last year was the amount of toxic people throwing lane and feeding because they were pissed off at everyone
