So why are rune pages so costly?

I think rune pages should be reconsidered in terms of pricing, Because 6300 even for someone who plays non stop match after match each day is still a lot of work to get up to and almost forces players to pay real money to beable to get even a few rune pages without weeks of work.

If league of legends is a competitive game that's all about encouraging players to climb the competitive ladder and and possible one day contribute to and grow the professional Esports scene as much as possible then I don't see why players would actually be inhibited by Rune pages that take a ridiculous amount of time to get without money.

Now I'm not saying to make them free. I understand riot need to make money but at the very least I think they should be 3150 not 6300 IP. Just enough to still make it so people will actually buy them with real money but not enough to basically tell the players who have no money to spend to go f*** themselves.

giving someone a full set of hockey gear doesnt make them ready to play in the NHL

I understand what you're refering to but that wasn't exactly the point. The point is to get better at the game at some point you will need a fully fleshed out set of rune pages for multiple possible champions/matchups for multiple lanes and roles.

Sometimes you're not going to just play 2 champions at all times so at bare minimum you're going to need 4 pages for atleast 2 champions in each of your preferred roles and even then that won't be enough if you go high enough.

And even if you can actually manage to farm out that whopping price tag per rune page you're not gonna have jack squat left over to actually buy any runes.

why dont you just ask RIOT to re allocate IP from the people who have alot to people who have very little?

I think we both know nothing like that will ever happen.

dont you think that the people who have the privilege of playing more often have an institutionalized advantage?

And don't you realize that's a problem?

To have external, objective advantages over other players that have nothing to do with individual performance or skill of the player?

I would rather them lower the cost of all runes by half. I personally feel like a new rune page is more exciting than a champ most of the time, so I'm fine with it being so expensive. I would just much rather have the runes be cheaper because I still need to buy all of the more niche runes lik hybrid pen, lifesteal, etc.

Not exactly. I still fully support Riot making money which they deserve to do with their game it's just that things that are essential to the growth of a player in this competitive environment like rune pages shouldn't be locked behind such a huge money wall that requires a ridiculous amount of work or opting out a chunk of cash to save yourself about 2 weeks of Ip farming.

I do understand that this game is their job and they need to make money. But they shouldn't sell power with real money in any form, skin should be enough.

Dint even bother reading much of your post but I suspect I know whats in it. Allow me to reply with why this will never happen and why you wasted your time writing it.

People look at how much IP they get for each game on average, they look at the cost of a rune page in IP then RP, they then make the calculation on how much their time is worth vs how much enjoyment they will get vs the money spent. This is how a Free 2 Play game model is supposed to work.

Say I told you my F2P game "X Ninja Robots vs Cyber Zombies" has around 500 hours worth of grinding to get all the current content that can be owned... but, you could spend about $175 to get ALL the content that could be owned. That breaks down to about $1 value for each 3 hours of grinding. The player can say to themselves "Id rather spend $10 now and enjoy the content, than spend the next 30 hours grinding for it."

I make money by selling you content, and you save yourself some time. If my content was at $1 value for each 20 minutes of play.... well then it would be very overpriced vs the effort it takes to get it, $10 would only save you 4 hours, at that rate. If my content dosnt take long to unlock via grind, I lose money unless I charge less for it.

Basically youre asking Riot to make less money on the basic F2P model, aka, spend money to save time. They aint gunna do thayt brudda.

Now, all that said, I think the IP price is ok, but what I really feel is we should have 4 to start with instead of 3. Thats my feelings on the subject. You can cover several basics with 3 and reuse those on other champs, but I feel like a 4th would let you make one specialized rune page, but they do have to make money.

This entire reply is so stupid. No I did NOT talk about removing the price, YES I know very well how F2P works and even said MULTIPLE times that I support riot making money like they should. If you would actually read the post before making comments like this you would know the summary is this: I fully support riot making things abit pricey so they can still make a pay check, but Rune pages are essential to growth as a player should be a tad bit cheaper instead of requiring a solid 2 weeks to get 1 page.

What I suggested is that maybe cut the price down to 3150 or around that area so they can keep it pricey enough for lazy people to feel the need to pay money, but low enough for those people who can't pay money actually manage to buy 2-3 pages without grinding for months and not having any IP left for champions or runes.
