Anyone got tips for a bronze support main?

I've had a string of bad games today and I feel like I could be improving. What are some things I should be focusing on/tips and tricks to help me?

I would honestly say, give up on being a bronze support.

You could play at a platinum level and you'd still lose because your ADC has no clue how a Thresh lantern works. Or your top picked Rengar into Sion and went 0-8 by 10 minutes. Or your midlaner dies once and decides that instead of playing safe and farming up he's going to try and 1v1 the enemy who's now ahead.

Or if you're still wanting to climb out of bronze playing as support, play Brand. Spam him every game, and build full AP. Carry like you're a farm animal. Take your ADC's kills because they won't do squat with the lead you create for them.

Or if you want to ACTUALLY play a support, play Janna.

In terms of mechanics, there really isn't much apart from decision making. Keep your wards up, always have pink wards in inventory, make sure you itemize properly, make sure you pop your CC on the appropriate targets, and your shields/heals on your sustained damage dealer - doesn't necessarily have to be your ADC. Once you finish your support item quest, trade in your wards for a sweeper, and upgrade that at level 9. Keep vision on dragon if your jungler (which he won't because this is bronze) doesn't and try to help your lane push in so you can roam mid and potentially help your midlaner.

Once the game drags on long enough keep vision up on baron pit. You're going to have to do 99% of the warding in bronze and that's just a sad fact. Also depending on which support you play, make sure you ping your ults/shields/engages/cc's at least four-five times so your ADC notices and learn who to focus with your CC/disables.

I also recommend pre-emptive anger management because hooboy. Bronze support is.... yeah.

depends on the support but there are some general rules.

  1. always be looking to trade and go aggro. Even with defensive or protective supports. the main job of the support early is to keep pressure off the adc while farming and set them up for kills by poking the enemy down. this is easier if your lane partner helps you out but I'll be honest in bronze expecting cooperation is a potshot.

  2. warding is nice, deep warding is nicer. If you can get a stretch of time where the enemy is just too camped in (say a caitlyn zyra lane that doesn't want to play with you and just spam their bush babies everywhere on the ground) signal to your adc that you'll be leaving a bit to ward farther into the jungle. good places include: the tribush, dragon pit, the enemy jungler's buff/side lane camp be it krugs or the frog thing, your jungler's buff if he's having troubles, the bush close to but a bit outside the midlane. make sure you aren't caught out and try to make sure you have a quick path to your jungler should you get caught out, he is your friend.

  3. roams early help win games. If you've gotten a kill down botlane, roam. do it. look up at midlane and ping them you're gonna come up there. also try to coordinate with your jungler for a gank if you can because if you see the struggling katarina up there in mid that hasn't gotten any ganks because she has no cc and the jungler didn't want to bother. well, now she has cc in the form of you. junglers love simple math and a feeder + a support = a normal average champion most days of the week.

  4. it's ok to leave your carry alone sometimes. If they aren't doing much mid to lategame so you can go help other laners, but traveling alone is a no-no. you're not as juicy as a fed teammate but you're still easy pickings without an ally to help out because supports aren't allowed to do damage (unless you're taric, that dude chunks I tell you what).

If you have a friend to duo with it's way easier to climb while playing on botlaners.
