Lux is NOT OP!

To all you people who claim Lux is overpowered now, you are jerks. ;P

Lux never even got a real damage buff in the last few patches. All she got was a consistency booster and better mana costs on her Q. Yes, her Q's second hit deals its full effect now, but that's hardly a damage boost when you only hit one target.

Yes, Lux is a safe mage, but there are plenty of Champions who just spit all over safety, or who can give Lux a LOT of grief.

Cases in point for mid-laners:

Gragas - Gragas has an answer for everything Lux does in lane. You simply cannot poke down Gragas as Lux. Any E's you throw at him can be blocked by Drunken Rage. If you try to move in to proc Illumination on him, he can easily Body Slam you. You also can't really push him down, as Barrel Roll takes care of minions easily. Lastly, once he gets Explosive Cask, you can't even tower-hug against him.

Ahri - Spirit Rush counters everything Lux has. If Ahri somehow loses to Lux while having Spirit Rush available, Ahri is the one who screwed up. Ahri can also sustain through Lux's poke, even after the nerfs, and if Lux comes to proc Illumination, you can retaliate with Charm or Foxfire.

Diana - You might be able to poke Diana pre-6, but once she gets Lunar Rush, getting anywhere near her is a death sentence. And even if she doesn't land her Q first, she might just start with her R and kill you anyways later in the game.

Talon - Get near him, you're dead in 2 seconds. That burst of his is murderous, and forces Lux to rush Zhonya, something that delays her Athene's or Morello and thus leaves her with continued mana problems. There's little Lux can do otherwise if Talon targets her.

Kassadin - Pre-6, you can poke him. Once he gets Riftwalk, he's your worst nightmare. Riftwalk dodges will make your skillshots frequently miss, and his natural resistance to magic damage makes him harder to kill than your typical assassin. There's just no way to be safe against Kassadin.

Heck, there are also other Champions who counter Lux pretty hard that don't go mid-lane:

Rengar - See that "!" over your head? You're probably already dead. Rengar can kill Lux in two shots easily before she can shield herself, and Light Binding won't stop Rengar's knife from coming down on your head. Critgar builds, in particular, can instantly kill you even if you have a Zhonya.

JarvanIV - If you're the target of a high-AD Jarvan, you're kinda screwed. Lux has no mobility outside of Flash to escape Cataclysm, and Jarvan can easily catch her with his E+Q combo. Cataclysm alone can take off about half your health if J4 builds high AD.

Bottom line, Lux is not OP. Stop complaining about her and get back to bitching about Darius.

EDIT: If you're still going to go on "Lux is OP!", Riot said that they would look into nerfing her E's blast radius if the changes to it made it too reliable.

Lux didn't need buffs. Period.

Her E buff for "consistency" made it almost undodgeable which greatly increased her damage/harass while simultaneously reducing mana waste.

Her W buff increased her safety.

Her Q mana buff made it considerably more spammable. By making it more spammable she can now do more damage from her Q and land her combos more often which means a potential considerable boost in damage and wasting even less mana.

Riot buffed 3 of her 4 abilities directly and all abilities plus her passive indirectly. With an extremely high winrate across all tiers of play, she can be safely classified as OP. Which everyone besides some very delusional Lux mains knew would happen.

The E and W buffs were to help people with bad ping.

Supposedly. But if it was truly only about ping then they could have lengthened the reactivation delay with the buffs to keep the ability balanced. As is we have an ability that is almost undodgeable.

It also costs Lux 130 mana and she has no mana-refund mechanics like Xerath. If she's forced to buy a item 3191 first, she has mana burnout problems.

Riot intentionally keeps Lux's E that costly because of its reliability.

You just described every single mage other than Xerath. Learn to conserve your mana istead of spamming e on every single wave and constantly trying to poke with spells at the same time.

Diana can't kill you if she doesn't land Q first unless you are really bad. if she hits you with R first you just Q and kill her . You are a liar and should be ashamed.

darkdill1 votes

Maybe not in the early-mid game, but late-game she definitely can.

In this scenario we are talking about Lux. Use your shield. Maybe as an ADC that will happen but you have to be pretty far behind for that to be the case. If I dont have my passive primed when going in on someone then you aren't going to be instantly erased. I have multiple games saved where I erased people as Diana and they only work with a full combo

She does have clear weaknesses, but however she's beginning to outclass OTHER immobile mages, which is where most of the QQ is coming from. She pretty much counters a lot of other immobile mages due to her range and high safety. She has a two second snare, an almost undodgeable nuke with around 1,100 range that also slows, and a high ranged ultimate that has a very short cooldown for an ult, especially late game where it's around a 30 second cooldown, and a shield that can negate burst. All the champions you listed are counters to almost every immobile mage, but Lux has less problems dealing with them. If you have trouble against mobility assassains, start taking exhaust or barrier. Lux has a ton of range that can be easily used, if she's letting assassains get to her, that's her fault. She's not OP, she does have a lot of weaknesses like high mana costs, slightly less damage then other mages (due to having 3 damaging spells instead of 4), but calling people who are getting annoyed by her jerks is kind of over the limit. By the way, she also has a 54 - 56% win rate (highest of any mid laner right now) with a very high pick rate due to the recent buffs.

She's surprisingly better than Ziggs.

"Ziggs does more damage to minions with his ult now!" "Ziggs had some power moved to his auto attack!"

rip Ziggs. Hello Star Guardian Lux ;)

But anyways, there should never, ever, be any Lux hate. She has clear weaknesses with her cool downs and skill shots.

darkdill3 votes

Ziggs is better at killing towers, and his damage output is higher than Lux's thanks to his Q having a much better cooldown than her spells. He can also completely stop enemy split-pushes dead in the water unless they use Banner of Command.

But if those aren't good enough, maybe Ziggs is just a little undertuned.

Lux isnt OP really, but all the nerfs to mana regen over time have left AP mids less meta. They often still get picked to have an AP champ on the team though. Lux is just one of the best mages with her super long ranges, the ability to both poke and push with her E, a great skill with a variable detonation time, and utility slow until then. Helps its a mile wide too. A brain-dead easy QER combo that hits like 2 trucks.

She has a lot of good stuff, but she can completely dominate if she builds a item 3028

Lots of other mages do well with it too, but Lux mana cost and her mana pool combine to make her a long range nuke engine that can spam hard.

The worst problem is like many other things, the other champs in the same class as her lack all the safety, engagement range, and utility to compare to her due to nerfs (again mostly to mana regen).

All those "counter" you can do this before 6 stuff from the OP fails to consider that if she gets item 3174 first, she can nuke for 300 + 75% of AP every 64 seconds. Sure you can try to dodge it, not likely if you get caught in her E slow. These are very long range abilities, and not hard to land. Are you about to try and get that CS...?

Is she OP, not particularly, just a meta mage with all this juggernaut bullshit, and hyper mobile champs flitting around like birds on meth. Shes one of the only ones you can play and live long enough to get fed.

Add a 0.25 second stun to Ziggs Q (stun grenades exist.... with stun shrapnel), and he will be way more popular, and still wont be as safe as Lux.

Mages will get their overhaul, though I hope the AP item overhaul wasnt all they get.

darkdill4 votes

Well, to be fair, Lux's E is 130 mana at level 5, which is far costlier than any other Champion besides Xerath (whose passive compensates for that). That's one thing that presently keeps Lux in check.

Lugg2 votes

The only problem with Lux right now is that her ult CD is way too short. It has insane range and damage for something that low.

darkdill2 votes

And it has a tendency to miss if she doesn't have a setup, unless her enemy isn't expecting it.

Lugg1 votes

The only way you should ever miss an ult with lux is if the enemy dashes or flashes. It has a HUGE hitbox.

She's really not, lol. If you think she's OP, play her and you'll see how much flaws in both laning phase and teamfights she really need to worry about.

I have already played like 200 games of Lux on my other account, so exactly how many more do I need to see these "flaws" in lane and team fights? I don't main Lux and I have a higher win rate with her than I do with my best champions. Against some champions I just get W at level 2 and ignore what ever they try doing since it's now instant. As for team fighting, you just throw out all your abilities from long range while shielding your team, then Zhonyas if anything happens. She's not even difficult to play and is a very straight forward champion. She's even the only champion I have been able to win with against an extremely fed Rengar.

The few times I have lost as Lux it was either 4v5 or because everyone else on my team lost hard and wanted to give up.

High mana cost, high cooldown, skill shot reliant, easily outplayed, no reliant escape and mediocre scaling.

We all know about high mana cost, I don't have to explain that much there.

Comparing to the other mid laners, her spells sits on an averagely long cooldown (none of which is below 10secs). Both Lux players and opponents can keep that in mind while playing as or against her. I always watch the timer that Lux casts her spell, and after that she's vulnerable for follow ups, giving me time to retaliate. As for her ult, it's short, but it's a skill-shot type of thing, so which brings to point #3.

All of her spells, the annoying ones, are skill shots. I can't really speak for all the people out there, but for this reason, I find her so predictable when playing against and as her (like watching for nidalee's spear). Her E sits on a pretty effective poke spell, but in compensation, it has high cd and a load of mana cost. Some of the Lux players are very skilled, but for most of the time, I never see Lux as a threat when going mid.

If you catch her out, chances are she's not going to be able to escape. Mobile champs, for this reason, are high counters to Lux (they're not the only counters, just laying that out there). She's got heal, she's got shield, she's got flash, that's fine. You'll force those out of her quite easily from a gank or maybe yourself, if you can dodge her spell then retaliate back with some damage; it depends how the trade/fight turns out.

She has mediocre scaling. comparing to LB, Veigar, Ahri, etc., her scaling is about average with averagely long cooldown. If you feel Lux is threatening, grab Magic Resist. She's most likely going with Tears, Grails, or Zhonya depending on the champs ur against, so her item's not giving that much AP. Get early MR and she's most likely gonna lose trade.

Maybe people haven't seen much Lux action until now so they don't really know her that well yet, but give it them, as always, people'll get more of an idea on how she works and what to do against her.

"high mana costs", she had the same mana costs as Morg, lower than Xeraths, etc. So, irrelevant.

"Skill shot reliant", skill shots are superior to targeted abilities due to range, not requiring vision, can't be canceled randomly from vision and the potential range is extended due to being able to be used while their opponent is out of range walking towards them, one of them is also impossible to miss, provides a slow making her Q even easier to land.

"if you catch her out" tl;dr the person playing Lux is bad, guess what happens when you catch any champion other than Lee Sin? Oh right, they die. She can still escape through Q and E. She had her move speed decreased ages ago for a reason but got it back through itemization.

Had no idea instagibbing was mediocre damage. Oh, guess what buying MR does? It also lowers Le Blanc's, Veigar's etc damage. So another irrelevant point.

Lux always had a high pickrate, "not seeing her" is irrelevant.

Anyways, I'm not going to spend time replying to a circle jerker, already lost interest when I saw mana costs when her mana costs aren't even high. I suggest looking at the wiki for various mages for reference.

What you see is irrelevant, to me I think they're cores of how Lux function. Since I already explained all what I view Lux's position's at and you still disregard everything I said, I guess there's no point in continuing the discussion. It's just up to the person who has different opinion about one particular champion, then.

Mana costs aren't opinions, they are facts. You and anyone who uses them as a "weakness" ignoring other mages have the same thing just don't want to manage mana. Hence the muh mana costs circle jerk that I'm not going to bother with.

I don't think you've ever played Lux vs Talon because Talon absolutely cannot even do damage to Lux at all. When he goes in she presses W and takes up all his damage and then she snares and E's him + gets 2 passive procs off. Talon is so hilariously easy to poke down and beat in lane as Lux and if you somehow end up feeding him you should uninstall.

Lux has a 54% winrate second highest in the game. You can't really defend her without looking like an idiot lol. All of your posts about mages are so incredibly biased and stupid. I'm honestly getting cancer just from responding to this. Thanks op.

Do you even understand how Ahri works? Her spirit rush is on a 60+ second cooldown. So you're saying the only way Ahri can dodge your skills that are all below a 30 second cooldown is by blowing her ulti? As for Lux procing Illumination, you would have to be an idiot to get hit by a charm. You would have to walk up to her without any minion infront of you, like what? As for foxfire, that is such a short range spell your aa range is greater than it's spell range so you wouldn't even get hit by it.

1 Spirit Rush to get a kill??? I'm sorry but since DFG was removed this couldn't be further from the truth. It would take at least 2 full spell rotations and ignite for Ahri to kill the enemy mid laner if they were both equal in gold in the laning phase.
