Why does Janna's Q still not have an indicator that shows her allies which direction it's going?

darkdill··171 votes·4,191 views

Sometimes your allies don't know what direction you're sending Howling Gale, and that leads to misplays. If they had an indicator, it could help them with setups.

Unfortunately, Riot doesn't seem to want to add this in when it'd clearly be a helpful QoL boost for Janna. Why is it that we can't have that?

I'm all for that, exept that janna already is pretty broken(there is a reason for her to be above 53% winrate since years straight while also always beeing one of the most popular sups). That would actually add alot power to her, especially in lane, and she really has no room at all for buffs(quite the opposite imo).

However, if she ever was to recive the nerfs she deserves, that would be a great way to compensate her.

You are aware that with the possible exception of Evelynn, Janna is literally the most nerfed champion in the entire game, correct?

Her R used to slow in its aoe effect - removed. Her Q used to have full knockup duration regardless of charge time - removed Her Q used to have a much further range, even when instantly cast. It also traveled much further when fully charged. Her Q used to have higher base damage and AP Ratio, making her viable mid - removed Her E used to have higher base value, AD, AND AP ratio - removed Her passive used to be global - removed.

She has a low skillfloor but a very high skillcap. If you mess up with Janna it will screw your team so much more than if you mess up with Zilean or Alistar or something. A missed Zilean ult will just get your adc killed. A wrong headbutt just throws 1 person to safety.

A bad Monsoon will singlehandedly lose your team the entire game.

500000000000000027 votes

That isn't to say she isn't strong. Janna is very strong (although maybe not to the degree of being broken). This is a pretty big buff, even though it's QoL change.

Papa Andrei4 votes

it not a buff, its a Quality of Life change. ITs like saying wards shouldn't show their vision to your team, only the person who placed the ward could see it. Its ridiculous.

50000000000000005 votes

Buff increases the power of the champion, and this proposed change does.

If wards used to show vision to yourself only and then it was being changed to show the vision to everyone, then it would be a buff, too. That change would be certainly ideal, but it would also be a buff to the item.

Papa Andrei2 votes

Sooo saying in the tooltip whether or not an ability does magic damage or physical, what exact numbers it should do, what its scalings are. Having those in the game are buffs? NO they are clarity things, they make the game function as intended

50000000000000002 votes

That actually doesn't increase the power of the champion, though?

Papa Andrei2 votes

Nope its just an indicator for clarity. Same as having an indicator for Janna Q,

And Kassadin used to have 70 flat armor pen on his W.

Next.

That was before they changed it and he was permaban for an entire season 2 seasons later

Edit: not even mentioning they cut all his base damages in half and removed the attackspeed from his passive

And all of season 4 his ult didnt have an AP ratio and did 0 damage

Lol you're not trying to argue he was perma banned because of on-hit effects, are you? It also used to manaburn, and that was taken away a long time ago.

Azlagor2 votes

no, he's saying that kassadin shows that heavy nerfs don't mean a champion can't be broken anymore. Kassadin has recived many nerfs even befor his imfamous ~98% pick/ban times, and stayed pretty powerfull for some more nerfs. Similar with lulu, it took damn long till she was finally nerfed out of viabillity simply because the way her kit funktions and by how much utillity she has, if her numbers are any better than gutted, she's goind to be strong.

There are just kits in the game that either need a fuktional change in terms of core mechanics, or they'll either be gutted or strong. Kassadin with all the nerfs and small changes still has the core issue of his kit: Huge mobillity paired with instant point n click damage, which means his numbers had to be gutted quite a bit to be remotely balanced. Similar with Janna, her numbers have been nerfed alot, but her funktionallity hasn't, so she stays amongst the strongest supports since forever, as her kit has just to much peeling-utillity, allowing her to invalidate any form of divecomp nearly regardless of numbers.

Sire Hippington6 votes

She may have had alot of nerfs, but non really hut her where it hurts, which is shown by her winrate which has never dropped below 50% since lols beginnings, and for by far most of the time remianed above 53%. Theres no champ with a higher average winrate over the full lifetime of lol's existence, probably not even one close to it.

The one thing that makes janna the bitch she is is that her Q has any knockup at all on instant cast. This means that together with her ult, she has two instant aoe abillitys that cancle the majority of all moillity tools in the game, which makes the carry of a wel played janna basically dive-proof. Not to mention the mobillity she has/grants, the strong slow that means the poor guy that got interuppted mid gapcloser won't get anywhere, usually leaving him easy pray to the carry, the huge amount of effective hp that her ult+shield+sup-items give to keep the carry alive should for whatever reason an enemy actually get to him. and the free ad for the carry....

What janna needs is a sion treatment, let the Q only apply the knock-up if it atleast channled X sec(like 0.5), else it will apply a brief but powerfull slow. This should free up quite some power to increase the reward for channled Qs aswell as giving allies an indicator, aswell as maybe upping her basehealth a bit to compensate for the lower selfpeal.

And no one can mess up like Alistar. A bad allistar is litterally 4vs6. One failed monsoon can be worse than a failed headbut, but a bad allistar will fail MANY headbutts, it's a far more spamable screw up.

  1. A tornado that can be instant cast or delayed, both time knocking up the same amount but traveling further when delayed
  2. a passive movement speed boost that is also a slow. The passive only works when ability is off cooldown and has a 12 sec cooldown
  3. A 5 sec shield that gives bonus ad and can be used on towers
  4. An aoe knock back heal on her ult
  5. A passive that gives bonus 8% bonus ms to anyone following her within a range of 1250 units.

that is some seriously heavy utility

Janna is pretty unique, in that she is packing a lot of utility. Even if she is nerfed to the ground, she will still do well in the hands of a skilled player. She passively grants MS to team, has great peel with Q and R, has slows, shields...

Handin Out Naps11 votes

Her being the most nerfed champion doesn't mean she isn't strong now. If anything it shows just how troublesome her kit is to balance. She has been sitting at around a 53% winrate for such a ridiculously long time. And recently she has been around a 55% winrate. It doesnt matter how many times she has been nerfed, it doesn't change the fact that she can still use nerfs now. Also you speak of how high her skill cap is, but you don't talk about how her skillfloor is so low that even a monkey can play her and carry their adc. There is a reason a lot of high elo players refuse to respect janna players. She has too much for how easy she is, she is such a fool proof champion and a lot of janna mains cant do anything besides play janna. Shit its so bad people are called boosted by janna sometimes.

tempname075475935 votes

'There is a reason a lot of high elo players refuse to respect Janna players.' i'm not hiding the fact that janna is strong and needs nerfs or even a rework to make her actually require skill to play, but what you said right there doesn't make sense at all. nobodies ever said anything like that.

Elipo2 votes

it's more about how she is viable on high elo, cuz in low elo if your team is retarded you can be the best janna ever and it will go all to waste, I mean she isn't played that much in low elo, but she's op at high ewlo, if noobs don't play her that much of course her win rate is gonna be high.

Also her win rate went up cuz she counters assassins, but once peopple stop playing so many assassins her win rate surely will go back to before

Xela Syab3 votes

Alot of support champs have a low skill floor. Honestly the hardest sup to play is Bard because there's so many room for errors in his kit. I respect Janna mains more than Soraka mains.

Janna is not a high skill cap champion.

What a joke.

Here we go again with the typical "JANNA BROKENGGWPBYE XDDDDDD 22327838 SHIELD 9 SEC!!!!111! GRAVES CNT HAS ITS SIGAR BUT JANNA CAN HAVE THIS!1!!! RUCK FIOT". Janna is "broken" only when people don't counter her, if you choose to play Leona and the enemy team choose Janna it's not that Janna now is op just because the enemy team outmsarted you.

50000000000000001 votes

A good Janna can wreck Leona in lane. Unless Leona tries to engage with her E on cooldown, her dash can be interrupted every time. And the passive movement speed also makes it difficult to land the ultimate stun on Janna, and if she only lands the slow, Janna can ult to disengage. Pretty sure pick is how to counter Janna, not hard engage.

Swarovsko1 votes

That's what i said? Or not? I'm not a native speaker but yeah what i meant was that Janna can be countered and that's how you stop complaining about Janna

Dracocrash9 votes

This is not a QOL buff. this is an actual BIG buff.

A QOL buff would be giving janna an exact indicator of how much damage/cc her tornado will do before she releases it.

If allies can see where it is going, they can try to pidgeon hole the enemy into the janna tornado, and janna is already the most braindead broken champion.

Champion Skin2 votes

Well Janna and her allies can already do this you know.... with communication and pings?

Communication OP i guess?

dakota saturn6 votes

Be careful what you wish for; other abilities like this (Taliyah knockup, for example) give the indiciation to both allies AND enemies.

I would see them giving the enemy the indicator as well, unless the tornado was fired from a bush or fog of war.

B0OM3 votes

Taliyah's knockup is different, though. The indicator circle on the ground is needed information in order to dodge it, like Cho'Gath Q. And if you're talking about the directional arrow, that's indicating the direction of the knockup itself, which is pretty crucial information for both parties to know. That's fundamentally different from a projectile that travels in a certain direction (and also happens to have a knockup effect).

FakeGravity4 votes

janna is strong because not only she is very useful in the right hand but she isnt punishing in the wrong ones either, a bad soraka will step out of position and die, a bad thresh commit and die alone, janna can handle her own mistakes more easily

darkdill8 votes

Except when she goofs up with Monsoon.

Dengeden3 votes

Her winrate I'm guessing. If her enemies saw it too, it would be ok I guess.

darkdill2 votes

Her winrate is more about how anti-dive she is, and how safe a support pick she is.

One idea could be to change her Q so that it only inflicts a knock-up if it has charged for at least 1 second. This way, she can't do an instant knock-up if you surprise her.

Dengeden6 votes

That would completely break her the wrong way. She wouldn't be able to stop Lee from getting his Q off on her for example. I mean who the heck gets hit by a full charged Q?

darkdill2 votes

No, her full-charge is after 3 seconds. 1 second would be a bit more like Sion.

Dengeden2 votes

Yes and nobody gets hit by that unless it's from FoW.

darkdill2 votes

You'd only need to charge for 0.5-1 second to get the knock-up, not the full 3 seconds. But the knock-up would be longer if you got off a 3-second charge hit (like it is on live).

Dengeden3 votes

Still not good enough to disrupt Lee Q.

Supreme Senpai693 votes

I don't think you realize how big of a nerf that'd be. Her Q is a knockup and that's literally all it's used for. Those instant Qs when you have a Zac mid E or a Vayne running you down save you a lot. I very rarely charge it up. 1S doesn't seem like a lot but it really is

Quacker21 votes

Why not have the howling gale only knockup the FIRST enemy champion hit when it is instant-cast, while it will knockup everyone if it has charged for X amount of seconds. It will still help keep away a diver (primary focus), but reward a player that charges it up with a full knockup cast.

Supreme Senpai691 votes

I don't think there's anyone who would be against that. It's pretty minor. But why change it? Is her Q OP or something? If anything, the frustration from facing a Janna is her E (though as a support I'd say a lot of mine is from her W which makes landing skillshots very hard, but that's just a laning phase issue so it's w/e)

Quacker21 votes

It's actually a huge change. Knocking up both the enemy ADC and support is skirmish-winning in the laning phase. Additionally, it would force her to make more choices in say...a gank: knock up the ganking jungler who is closest to my carry OR the enemy support with the CC/lockdown OR the enemy ADC who has the consistent damage. However, you could only pick one...or risk charging the ability for a mis-cast.

Supreme Senpai691 votes

How would you choose who to knock up? Wouldn't it just be whoever is closest? Don't you already have to choose if you want to knock up the jungler, the support, or the ADC during a gank?

Quacker21 votes

It would always knock up the first person in the cast radius. So if Leona and was in front of caitlyn, then the Leona would be knocked up and the tornado would dissipate (it would not hit Caitlyn at all).

In the gank scenario, there is typically one angle that hits at least two champions. E.g. Jg+Supp or ADC+Supp

Supreme Senpai691 votes

To be completely honest if you're against a Janna and you line up single file like that, it's entirely on you.
