With 133 Champions in the Game, Perhaps a speed up on IP price drops is in order

Jon1174··213 votes·4,940 views

Its getting really hard to stay motivated to grind out IP, and i know this is a dumb complaint but man...It takes a long ass time to get 6300 ip and that is not including runes or mystery tokens so we can get blue essence

all I'm saying is it would be nice if acquiring champs was a faster process

Update:It seems that we have one thing that most people agree on....The Runes Are Too Damn High

Idea: After 10 game wins (excluding remakes), a 3-game IP boost is unlocked for free Maximum 5 boosts per month.

I really like this idea.

On which maps and modes?

DarkRitual1 votes

Any that gives IP.

SociopathFriend14 votes

I agree that IP needs to either be delivered at a faster rate or the prices need to drop faster.

and the best runes are 2050IP, which is 2 weeks worth of the ip bonus of the day, for 1....fucking....rune.....

Na, I wish champions cost 10x the IP that they cost now. This would fix the smurfing problem, as it would be a real grind to get 16 champions for ranked, and by the time people did hit 16 champions on their new accounts they would have much more game knowledge than they do now. Getting to level 30 should take a lot less time and the champ grind should take a lot longer. This would make it so people had to seriously think about who they were to buy next and give them time to actually learn how to play the champions they have so when they do rank they actually have some know-how when playing a champion.

So what your saying is,screw new players in order to inconvenience smurfs?

Power Of Syndra4 votes

There are no "new" players in League of Legends. Or at least they are 0.1% of all new created accounts right now. :D :D

And those new players play bot games or training mode and use f2p champions.

Screw? Na, give them a chance to learn the game. Too many people hop into ranked when they hit 30 and have 16 champions and only have about 5% of game knowledge. There are people in Silver that suffer because of this since newbies start at around Silver MMR. By making it so it took LONGER to grind to get 16 champions then people would have to play MORE and learn MORE before going into ranked. I think to get into ranked you should be required to have 70 champions with how the system is now. To keep it at the 16 champion requirement then the prices should go up drastically. There are too many champions in the game to think that someone knows the basics by only having 16 of them.

I also think that in customs and ARAM all champions should be unlocked so people can have an opportunity to learn more of the champions before purchasing them.

But what about people who play normals? 10x the IP price would affect the just as much as rank

as for ranked i like the 16 but it should be 16 champs with Mastery Rank 5 or higher

I don't care about balancing anything around normals. Normal draft could be down to Max number of bans + 1 for all I care. So normal draft now could be 7 champions, when they up it to 5 bans per side it could be 11 champions. I care more about balancing for Ranked.

Jon117415 votes

What does the ip price of champions have to do with bans?

AcidTheWarlock9 votes

More bans means you need more champions. Higher prices mean that it's longer until you can play ranked.

I dont think I have 16 champions at mastery 3 lol what

EDIT: Okay, I checked, and I have 19 at level 4+, but only 5 at level 5+

EDIT: there was no reason for me to post this, it doesnt affect the discussion at all

In other words make them quit because it will take 250-630 games to get a 63000 champion.

What OP is saying that it should take a minimum of 500 games (assuming all wins and first win of the day) to get into ranked/draft. Assuming you're buying the cheapest champions. God forbid you try to buy the more expensive champions that would rise up to 5000. 5000 games to get into draft. Lol

MatthewRT21 votes

well another way to fix smurfing is revert the xp to get to lvl 30 back to normal (double it)

Ha1man2 votes

Or tie it to your MMR and win rate.

Wasn't the leveling always intended to be a sort of extended tutorial? Clearly if a smurf roflstomps his opposition he does not need that and could be promoted to lvl 30 in like 50 games for all I care.

IMO I'm not tooo bothered by the fact that I don't own every champion. But I do believe that specific champions who are good at teaching the basics of the game or are favored by newer players should have their costs lowered.

IE: I believe Sona should be 450 ip. She's the ideal champion to teach a player the basics of support with- she's all about trading and positioning and going in for the q auto then out, but her heal and easy mechanics also make her forgiving of mistakes. her ult is an easy all in for teaching the value of that kind of thing too.

I'd even go as far as saying Garen Ashe Sona Annie and Warwick should just be completely free. Although I don't think Annie is the perfect starter mage, there isn't really one that's great at teaching mages.

I'd also say some champions, like Lux, Leona, Caitlin and a few others who are popular and newer player friendly should be in the 1300 price range.

Jon11741 votes

This is a fair idea,I like it

EROTIC RAID BOSS1 votes

thank you. overall I don't think new players need every champion, but they do deserve access to a compelling group of 450 and 1300 priced champions.

Jon11741 votes

Correct,They Dont Need Things Like Illoai or Ivern Or Azir

Fairyfleur2 votes

While Sona does have a heal, overextending in a lane against Leona, Blitzcrank, Naut, etc, your heal will not save you. However, you are right in that Sona rewards good positioning, and can teach a lot. You can also learn more than the basics with her too, with the fact that she has a fairly high unnoticed skillcap.

EROTIC RAID BOSS2 votes

I don't think she'd be punished as hard in noob games for one thing, even relatively speaking. but that's part of what she's teaching you too- how to trade efficiently and not die. she's perfect at it.

Fairyfleur1 votes

I do agree, but I'm just saying she's not too forgiving. Although, in lower level games that's probably true.

Sagan Forever3 votes

I feel you do not care about the specific champion you can spend 5100 for them. But ya I feel you grinding out these champions is a pain.

General Esdeath 3 votes

Been playing for 4 years. Still don't have all the champs or 20 pages.

DemainaNyx2 votes

I think the problem is I want to get more champions, but I also want to get the right runes for champions as well. Right now I have 3 rune pages that are generic AD, AP, and tank page. Obviously certain champions normally get specific rune pages to enhance them, but I don't have the IP to get them and get champions. So, for me, I've been focusing on getting champions and postponing getting more specific rune pages till later.

Errastas1 votes

All you need is two generic pages and you can play any lane and they'll serve you well until you've unlock pretty much every champ and can now focus on specific pages.

MrStealYoGanks1 votes

There is a huge difference between having a rune page that is sufficient and having a rune page that is optimal. 2 pages make it sufficient, if players started 3 pages it would be more optimal for most lanes/champs.

Riot has mentioned reworking runes for a long time, I don't think they have any clue as to what they want to do as of yet. Hell they don't even know if they want to bring back the Tribunal (it's been in maintenance for almost 2 years, might even be more) on top of the continuous flow of new champs.

Hopefully we do see improvements for runes or at least they put a slack in the leash for rune page prices. I already know a few friends that I introduced to League that quit because they didn't want to grind for a rune page and then turn around and grind for runes and/or champs. Especially considering RP-wise rune pages are still not cheap and the last time a sale on rune pages happened was well over a year ago.

LordSirChipmunk2 votes

I have been playing the game for over a year, and I still don't have enough champions to play ranked games yet. I totally agree.

Viktorious Sayph2 votes

Or atleast bring down the rune prices.. Its too much.

Aeró2 votes

4 years on this game and i still dont have all champs.

Pandemic Punch2 votes

Yes. ALOOOOT of champions should be a lot cheaper now.

MrStealYoGanks1 votes

I just wish they lowered the price of rune pages so I could at least have 5 without having to grind for months on end to just get two.

YambrinZ1 votes

Pony up the cash for a 7 page bundle. Ez game ez life. Support the game you like to play :)

MrStealYoGanks1 votes

I already support the game through other means, rune page prices have been an issue that has been discussed every year, frequently. The fact that rune page sales have become scarce is another issue entirely.

Rune pages are borderline essential especially when you implement an autofill system considering that 2 pages will not give you optimal set ups for 5 very different roles in the game. You sound just like the people that argued that tier 1 and 2 rune prices were perfectly fine and look what happened there, tier 1 no longer exists and all tier 2 lowered to 1 IP.

swordofsun3 votes

Keep the price of runes, keep the two pages, just let me modify them in champ select.

MrStealYoGanks1 votes

I would be all for this, but sadly I don't think Riot would make it happen considering it would eliminate the need for buying rune pages at all. Something needs to be done about it though, the more champions you get the more essential rune pages become. At least giving 3 pages to start off with would be optimal and not just sufficient as 2 currently doesn't cut it once you get the 16 champions you need to play ranked, especially with the new autofill feature.

Chromatic Eagle2 votes

We already support the game with skins and buying new champions with rp if you don't want to grind ip. Runes are a gameplay boost to function.

CasterGilgamesh1 votes

i own every champion lol

ChilliTacos1 votes

Agreed. I've been playing the game for about 8 months and i have about 35 champions in my kit. I got lucky from hextech and got Vi, Lissandra and Ekko who are all 6300 ip. Would've taken a long time to grind. I also personally believe that the rune pages and runes are way to high. For newer players like me, I'm torn in whether I should save up for runes to improve the performance of the champs I own or save up for a really good champ that I want to learn. Tier 3 Quints are a little over 1000+ ip, and since you have 3 spaces to put your quints thats about 3000 ip. You could buy someone like Katarina or Nidalee. I also agree with the fact that some easier champions should have lower ip. Examples include Sona , Trundle , Volibear. Sona allows newer players to learn the basics of postioning. Her 3 basic abilities are not skill shots and her Heal/ Movement speed buff allows her to make mistakes and not get thoroughly get punished. Trundle has no mechanics whatsoever and has a lot of point and click. His abilities are easy to understand and I really don't know why he is as expensive as someone like Cassiopeia. Volibear also has a similar situation to Trundle. He is really easy to understand and nothing about his kit is difficult.

TLDR: AGREE WITH WHAT HAS BEEN STATED BY JON. LOWER IP ON EASIER CHAMPIONS AND LOWER IP ON RUNES/RUNE PAGES

ADC5LUT1 votes

Ive been playong since s2 and i still need 5 or 6 champions + a fuck ton of runes.

lGIaurunGl1 votes

Lissandra is still 6300 IP LOL Riot please.

eM tropeR1 votes

I use one generic rune page for all my champions, regardless of role. That should tell you something about how bad IP and prices are.
