Is "Being Drunk or High" an excuse for Feeding

How often have you been in a game where there is that one guy who is just off the walls feeding

And how often when asked what the issue is they respond

"I just smoked weed so lol" or "I'm so Drunk Dude"

Now i have never been Drunk due to being the age of 20 in the United States nor have i ever been high But from my experiences with people who have done both, Most people, if they are inebriated to the point where it is an excuse then why can they type eloquently and form coherent thoughts has led me to believe most of those people are lying in both and attempt to "Look Cool" and to excuse their poor play.

Edit 2:Wow this has been a very hard debated discussion and i appreciate everyone's contributions so far but i would like to clarify

I Am A Nobody,This discussion is more of a "should the Guy/Girl/Void Creature behind the screen be at their best when playing ranked"

We are all aware that we cannot actually check to make sure that they are actually inebriated but I wanted to raise the question "In an ideal world where we could know for certain would it be acceptable"?

I don't think that it's an excuse. Even if it's true that you're drunk/high, it's your fault for getting drunk/high in the first place. While it can lead to bad play, it's not a viable excuse because it's your fault that you decided to play league while inebriated.

In normals I think it's fine to be faded and feed. Ranked is another story. That's like showing up to work drunk.

I'll agree with this. Normals I'm fine with, but if you're going into ranked, you should do everything in your power to make sure you do your best and try to win. Getting drunk or high is not part of that.

Agreed, In normals is a free for all and casual, Ranked is where you do to do your Karate after Waxing on and Waxing Off and there is no Inebriation in this DoJo

Neither is being 0-4 and trying to 1v1 the enemy...yet I don't see much support for that being a bad thing to do.

If you're 0-4 (enemy laner 4-0) and down 50 cs at 8 mins...you will lose the fight. You know this. Therefore, you are fighting when you know you will die. Therefore, intentionally feeding. There is a clear difference between "being bad" and going lucian "support" and running to each lane and dying.

Thinking "You know this" about your teammates is a pitfall, especially without proper communication and knowledge of their league background. Not everyone is as good as you, watch your steps.

If you honestly don't know that trying to 1v1 an enemy that has a 4 kill and 50 cs lead at 8 mins is going to result in you losing (let's be real, anyone level 30 knows that), you should not be playing ranked.

Work = Ranked

  1. you have expectations for success and your peers hold you to it
  2. you and your team earn an 'income' of LP based on performing your task
  3. poor performance will lead to demotion
  4. when you run out of 'currency' aka LP, you are forced to live in the slums 'Bronze'

It is a game but I think you can see the reasons for my comparison.

I was honestly thinking the same thing.

You should be able to be banned when you play poorly whenever you are high/drunk. That is like saying

Player 1: "Hey man how did you miss that goal in the soccer game?!? The goalie was distracted!"

Player 2: "Well I have a broken leg"

Coach: "Well then why are you playing soccer?!?!? Go lay down, you are off the team temp."

If you feed whenever you are drunk/high, then dont join a game. This should be seen as "Intentional greifing" since if someone KNOWS they will feed if they are this way, they shouldnt join.

My issue is more that it is usually a lie, i was in a game with a friend and he used it as an excuse when he was right next to me

It is a valid REASON to be playing poorly, but not an excuse. They knowingly screwed your match, regardless of whether they tried to win or not.

You shouldn't put too much stock in the answer. Most people will respond with an answer that doesn't make them look bad and gets you off their back.

If you think someone is intentionally feeding, then confronting them isn't likely to help. If they're feeding, you probably just pushed them to feed harder out of spite. If they aren't feeding, you almost certainly just pissed them off.

But that is just it, if someone is playing (and it doesn't have to be weed or alcohol it can be like,playing when your tired,or what have you, would that count as intentionally assisting the enemy (in regards to ranked play)?

Im not trying to call anyone out or start a witch hunt its mostly just curriosity.

For my money, it would not be. I consider the INTENTIONAL part of Intentional Feeding to have significance. I look for the visible choice to feed and leave the edge cases to Feederbuster.

I used to drink and play a lot on an alternate account. I was a toxic feeder and got reported a lot - which I agreed with. My account was in poor standing until I stopped drinking and playing. Now it is in good standing :).

Being high or drunk is not an excuse for anything. Trust me... I have fucked more shit up in my life than a stupid video game because of alcohol and saying "I was drunk" isn't an excuse.

That should not be a bannable offense. Being under influence make your insticns and response more sluggish which is why it's ilegal to drive drunk, and which is why you need to pass a taste before getting license.

In league however, you don't need to pass a taste to prove your response and insticts are good enough to play. And infact it's not a bannable to have shit mechanics and do miss plays.
If a player is playing bad, and calims it's because they are drunk, the raniking system in the game will naturally place them in the place they belong considering they do it more then once or twice. And that one game is not enough to shoot you from diamond 1 to bronze 5. You will be fine. If the drunk player is being toxic and or trolls (feeding does not equals trolling) then you are more then welcome to report.

TL;DR if the most said player do is play bad, that is not a banable offense.

if it was, then you should also be able to report stupid people too, the vast majority of games are lost because of them and they don't even have an excuse.

They put themselves intentionally in a state where reflexes are dumbed down as well as any other key factor in the game. It's like I'd put intentionally lag in my connection. Hence they should be reported.

It doesn't metter if they put them selves intentionally in a place where they have a hard time to win the game. If they are not trolling,or being toxic there is no reason to ban.

the ranking system will automatically place them together with other players that play with equal skills. They play bad -> they lose ranks.

Taking your analogy with lags; Many people put external music, stream, filim, etc which can cause some increse in ping. are they banable? a player that download something which reduce their ping is banable? a player that plays while something distracts them outside of the game is banable? Also, any player that doesn't buy a good computer,dosen't buy a good internet connection, and dosen't buy a good keyboard and mouse is intentionally hindering their preformance. Are they banable? a player that doesn't train and increese their skills are intentinally hindering their chance to win.

It all come down to a simple question:** a player that plays bad is banable?**

I get it, it's annoying to play with a player that is playing bad. However just because it's annoying dosen't mean they should be banned from playing the game.

It's not about the performance itself, it's why they are having it. And being Drunk/High should be considered punishable if used as an excuse or just to make fun of the situation. I don't see why a stupid and dangerous behavior should hinder other ppl fun.

Let me see If I got your logic correctly: It does not matters if player x is playing well or poorly, by the act of typing in chat "I'm drunk" or "I'm high" [in an attempt to give an excuse to a bad play] or [in an attempt to make a joke] they should be banned from this game because those actions (Drinking and Getting high) are stupid and dangerous.
Did I get it?

if so, then I will repeat my self: Banning a stupid person from the game, while being completely stress relieving, is a wrong thing to do.

and about the dangerous part: They are not handeling humen lives for crying out loud! its a computer game. You could argue that they are harming themselves, but that is not neceserely correct And riot are not their babysitters.

as long as they are not trolling, and they are not toxic, there is no reason to ban them. Even if they are dumb as a pile of shit and even if they are potentinally harming themselves.

As someone who has played drunk on numerous occasions (though i'm trying not to do that anymore), i voted yes. Personally i'd like to see a "casual"/alternative queue option for people who want to play while under the influence or without putting in any effort.

I think there's a big enough market to warrant a pvp queue for people who like to play pvp in a hyper-casual environment and it would keep those people out of ARAM/normals.

Blind pick. Draft is where people go to practice for ranked, but people HATE blind pick so it generally doesn't get brought up. However if I'm queueing for Blind I'm basically saying "I don't care about the quality of my teammates" so...
