Overtuning, Undertuning and the point of balance.

What us so hard about point of balance? If 3 is too little and 5 too much 4 is just right.

If nerfing an ability by 1 damage won't hurt a champion. Will 2? 3? 4? 5?

If damage being 200 on something is too much, and 50 too little. The right amount is somewhere between them.

I often see people "If you nerf/buff this ability numbers this champion will be dead/OP!" Uhm... by how much. Because if a buff/nerf of 1 wouldn't effect them and a buff/nerf drastically more would break them(either direction) do something between those. And just refine from there.

sometimes Number Changes are just not enough to make a Champion balanced.

it's not always about finding the right numbers.

No "kit design" is balanced by nature. However those that are in a tolerable state can easily be number tuned with effort.

sometimes you are just ruining strengths/weaknesses of the Champ with changes like that that were intended to be there.

not always there is a perfect Number.

look at Yasuo, that shit will never be balanced with pure number changes.

Sure it will. Reduce the number of abilities and passives in his kit >_>

...or reduce the Number of Champs called Yasuo in the game by 1

Riots backed themselves in a design corner, due to their desire to homogenize characters for positional play rather then creating them and letting them find their niche, they've put themselves in a position where adjusting numbers is basically all they can do.

This is why Dota always sees vastly superior character usage stats to League. Even their utter bench warming lackwits are the best at something, and that something could come out in a pocket strategy designed to counter another.

Omniknight and Necrophos always come to mind on this.
