Please allow us to select our Pick Intent while in queue

We all know that annoying feeling where you intend to pick a certain champ, but it takes you 5 seconds to find them in the list, so you're wasting valuable time that you could be looking at your allies' picks and talking strategy. That doesn't need to happen.

The flow would go like this:

  • Select primary lane
  • Select secondary lane
  • Start the Queue
  • optional: Select primary pick intent
  • optional: Select secondary pick intent ...
  • Join lobby with pick intent already selected

There doesn't need to be any changes in the matchmaking algorithm or the flow of the new champ select to do this, so it's a (relatively) easy suggestion to implement a MVP for -- later Riot could adjust the matchmaking algorithm to not pair people who select the same same pick intent, if the team decides that's worth the longer queue times.

Lately I've just started using the search box, you can usually narrow down your selection to a handful of champions with 2-3 letters. Plus a lot of times I change my pick intent based on my team's pick intent.

Edit: typos, I'm on my phone

This would still be a nice QoL change, in my opinion every second in champ select is important. Plus, it'll allow premades to start strategizing pre-lobby.

Is there a premade pre-lobby chat? I actually don't remember. A lot of premades have a chat room or voice comm anyways I think. I mean, I guess it's fine as a QoL change, I just don't see it being that useful.

There is, but often queue with people (like yourself) whom I'm not necessarily in voice with. (on that topic, I'll be back in the US and on this acct tomorrow).

Maybe I'm alone in wanting to get into lobby and immediately start thinking about our comp.

Glad to have you back :P. Been looking forward to having some strong players around so I can actually feel good about becoming a support(/jungle) main (on that topic; Bard is so much freaking fun omg, I wish I had more IP right now...)

Personally, I've kind of learned it's best to let players play whatever the heck they want and just work around it in game, since most players don't have Korean level champion pools to actually make a coherent team comp. I think we're in the minority for being relatively competent on a variety of roles/champions, and also deliberately creating diverse champion pools in order to make good team comps. Don't get me wrong, I still love theorycrafting team comps and everything, it just seems more like a thing you do with friends in chat/voice, rather than something that's going to happen regularly just playing solo.
