Can someone explain why lethality is so broken?

It's basically a weaker version of armor pen.

20 armor pen = 20 armor pen, easy.

20 lethality = 12 armor pen then 0.4444 (it goes on) per level.

Basically, I'm saying that armor pen is better than lethality at all levels under 18, then they merely become equal. Lethality will never be better than armor pen. Why is everyone complaining?

It's broken on ranged characters; for Assassins, it's performing as well as Riot wanted it to.

There is a difference, though. There's more Lethality now than there was ArP before.

Lemme just point you to a thread I made that happens to cover this among other things.

Makes sense. I guess you don't see that many flat armor pen items anymore. Yet everything has lethality.. Well said, kind sir.

Because a smaller skyscraper is still a skyscraper.

Because edge of night is completely busted from a cooldown on the spellshield perspective and it scales better.

By the time someone has ghostblade at like level 6 or so they have 16 armor pen, but the actives on the other items make up for the lack of armor pen

It's 11 armorpen against a level 6 enemy. Just a correction.

Lethality is overpowered because of this:

Runes: 22 lethality

Mastery: 6 lethality

Items: 10 (1100 gold) + 15 (2900 gold) + 15 (3100 gold) + 15 (3250 gold)

Considering you don't have to purchase the full item to benefit from lethality it looks more like this:

22 + 6 + 10 = 38 lethality = 22.8 armor pen at level 1 or 16 (without 1100 gold) ARAM starts with 1400 gold.

End game looks like this:

22 + 6 + 15 + 15 + 15 + 10 = 83 lethality which means if you didn't buy any armor you are going to take over 100%+ damage from any physical damage being dealt to you. Basically there should be no way to deal over 100% of your damage just because the enemy didn't have enough armor but Rito just prefers to nerf the numbers.

You could reach a higher maximum value for Lethality and the items provide far more powerful passives/actives (including out-of-combat movement speed).

Armor Pen:

  • Runes: 21
  • Masteries: 8.5 (?)
  • Youmuu's Ghostblade: 20
  • Maw of Malmortius: 10
  • Duskblade: 10

Lethality:

  • Runes: 24
  • Masteries: 8.5
  • Youmuu's Ghostblade: 20
  • Edge of Night: 15
  • Duskblade: 15

Even accounting for the reduction when converting from Lethality, you will still have higher armor penetration the majority of targets.

Runes and masteries had their values increased (which mitigates the loss), so they only lost a slight amount of armor pen at low levels. In exchange, their itemization greatly improved and higher maximum armor pen values could be reached.

Live Ghostblade was nerfed to 15. And Lethality on Precision was nerfed as well.

I'm aware.

I was specifically referring to when Lethality was overpowered.

Patch 7.4 hasn't been out long enough to see how Lethality was affected.
