cause not every AP is a close range AP, its range on the MR reduction is pretty short compared to most cast range of spells on APs

70 ap is smallish 50 mr isn't the best The mr reduction Aura is really only useful on a small group of ranged and melee mages

I believe the main reason is that most champions want to prioritize a mana and/or CDR item first. Once they have that, the item is over-shadowed by other options and magic damage typically isn't your main concern.

If you don't need a mana or CDR item early (i.e. Katarina) or you are an AP fighter (i.e. Diana) against another AP champion, it's definitely a good rush item.

Also, AD tops and junglers are quite popular at the moment, so you will often be the only one getting any real benefit from your aura.

don't worry, it'll be ruined for typical mages when they rework it(hopefully that gets released with ao shin)

I start this on a few champs depending on who i'm against. It's not the best item for many situations because of a few things, but most importantly is cost. For the vast majority of midlaners this is not a core item, and so getting this slows down their ability to get the core items they require to be useful. However, if you are against someone who has insane burst like leblanc, and you are having trouble out trading them then this item is perfect. However, if you're against oriana, or someone whose burst is really not that big of a problem early then building this item does not have as much of an effect as a core item. Sure it will make you harder to kill, but it really won't help you shut down your opponent.

I rush this whenever my has to deal with an oppressive AP enemy, like Loblonc or Shitarina. It's a really good early purchase that starts to lose its cost effectiveness around 25 minutes.

It's only really useful on close range AP champs, and it has somewhat low AP, and no others stats except for MR.

i always used it for bruiser/tank... not for range... because i can burst and kite them...

btw you forget this ... its "sleeper op item"...

I don't recall hearing the OP mention anything about rushing it first, I believe they were just saying that hey this is an underused item and at some point in the game it is a good/cost efficient item(which it is ).
