why does corki outburst burst mages.

MunchCrunchLunch··141 votes·8,828 views

while having sustained damage as an adc? his burst is too high for someone with cooldowns as his. hes basically a safer version of graves. I don't understand either. why his passive. gives him 110% scaling on autos. 55% magic and same thing physical. I feel like. even at a 50/50 split. having half your damage as magic damage. is beyond advantageous considering how low base MR is and how much higher is armor for every champion in the game.

hes just too overtuned right now

Someone in the Youtube comments section actually did some math that made that reasonably plausible.

Given the context, I think any burst mage that fed would have 100-0'd him in that situation, especially since he... kind of face-checked a bush.

And it's especially ironic he was playing Leblanc. If the roles were reversed (Leblanc doing a full combo for a kill), would we be complaining? Well, probably.

I have no idea where I was going with this.

SpongebobIsLife1 votes

idk though man, he died at the same time phosphorus bomb hit him, that's almost talon level burst.

IcyPepper3 votes

He took a few hits, judging by the appearing numbers (some physical too, so I'm assuming there was autoattacks).

The real problem was that his screen was away, he wasn't 100% paying attention at the time, and there was absolutely no vision whatsoever. Leblanc can do relatively the same thing when fed, but that Corki seemed fed (a duo laner being the same level as the enemy midlaner), Leblanc had only a zhonyas and took mostly magic damage with only 30 MR (and someone said that with Corki's build, masteries, and runes, Leblanc would be taking near if not true damage at that point).

Whether or not Corki was balanced, that specific moment had the element of surprise, being fed, and the advantage of not being appropriately counterbuilt (although I'm not sure what Leblanc could build for MR, since I hear Athenes isn't exactly the best item on her). MR runes might have helped to a small degree tho, but Leblanc was going full-glass cannon against magic damage.

The Corki was 6/4/12 before that play, with 2.8 items built that all go towards lot of burst (item 3078 for Sheen, item 3031 for hypercritting, and components of a item 3094 for that extra chunk of damage you charge up).

item 3001 has been almost a necessity for LeBlanc mid recently.

There's a difference between what happened to him and a LeBlanc combo, though. If LeBlanc one-shot Corki with QRW then she'd have blown her ultimate to do it and spent a decent amount of time running around waiting for her basic abilities to come back up before she did anything else. Corki didn't blow any significant cooldowns in killing her and even if he had, it hardly would have mattered because he has powerful basic attacks to fall back on.

Corki doing assassin levels of burst damage is obviously not inherently a problem but it is a problem when he's also a champion that naturally has huge sustained damage because he has no real cooldowns in his kit and scales with AD (even having empowered auto attacks). There's a reason this thread is specifically talking about Corki bursting like a mage. It's completely inappropriate for a champion with that much sustained damage and no real cooldown on his combo to be able to do that much burst damage.

Corki is far more vulnerable than LB, he has to care about his positioning unlike LB, his Q is easy to dodge if it isn't point-blank and he has much less defensive options. LB can go abyssal, Zhonyas so she's pretty tough while being super mobile and bursty, Corki has to build AD to be relevant

This isn't just Corki vs LeBlanc. This is Corki vs every burst mage/assassin in the game. Making very poor arguments about how LeBlanc is stronger than him doesn't convince anyone of his balance state.

I mean just lol in general at "LB can build defensive items". AD champions have ridiculously strong defensive options right now.

Anyone else notice corki had 16 kills before that happened? give a lot of champions that many kills and they could do that to.

Xicashina6 votes

6 kills not 16 he was 6-4-14 =P

So at this point we're complaining that Corki one shot a squishy, while having his core item that gives him crit, ad, and an empowered auto, plus two more crit based items, and a thunderlords proc... so we're complaining that he was built. VoyBoy was over extended behind their entire team. It was a dumb play on his part to be doing that, having no vision on his part, and not looking at his character.

Bruh. 6 kills is still a fuck ton.

corki has more range, a longer ecsape gets a free rumble ult that scales better then rumbles R does for free just because riot wants to allow him a rumble ult for free and he can still use his w after he drops his rumble ult off. It also last longer then rumbles ult and has a bigger field zone.

Why in god name would riot give a free rumble ult to a ADC champion makes no sense what is the point of playing rumble when you can do the same thing with corki but have more damage range and another ult after you drop the rumble ult down.

Elindis2 votes

Telegraphed by global sound, 5 minute CD which puts him in danger. Also, how useful would Rumble's ult be if it knocked back enemies so they have to intentionally move into its zone?

QNjixEktAn2 votes

well seems like it is crazy useful cause he is in pretty much every lcs game and spam none stop in challenger diamond plat ranks. So your point seems to be that his crazy op rumble ult he gets for free is not useful? I don't even want to comment the lack of intelligence you possess

Elindis2 votes

I never said it's not useful. If you want to mention LCS, look at how they use both Rumble's R and Corki's package. Rumble's R is used as damage tool, especially in jungle where you can't easily jump out of it.

Corki's package is used as zone control/positioning/initiation ability. They really don't use it for its damage, as it can't be used. They use it to cut off enemy escape path, so he has to use flash. It's also used as positioning tool when going into teamfight, as it has great range and you will gain unexpected numbers advantage in a skirmish. And lastly, it's used as initiation, or to be more precise assasination tool to kill enemy going solo, be it splitpusher or jungler.

If you use Corki's Package in teamfight i assure this will happen: You Valkyrie through enemy team, they get knocked back. As you went too far to get them, you will get instantly CC'd unless you Valkyrie back, which can be easily interrupted even by sneeze. It will deal 0 damage because it automatically knocks enemies back without doing damage. No one steps on your scorched earth to get hit by that ridiculous DOT.

Corki is spammed in high elo games because of his mixture of burst, poke and mobility, and of course mixed damage.

QNjixEktAn1 votes

SpecterVonBaren2 votes

Corki's package actually has better scaling and a slow three times stronger than Rumble"s ult.

Anidan1 votes

And yet, despite all that, I still like Rumble's ult more.

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

Same here, it's still dumb that Corki gets a better Rumble ult every once in a while, on top of his actual ult.

Anidan1 votes

Worth mentioning though, that it's only situationally better. The stats only tell part of the story, since the ult pushing enemies out before any damage is actually done so I'd imagine it's primarily used for zoning and cutting off an escape quickly, whereas Rumble can use his in tandem with other teamfights ults to score very hefty damage, along with a respectable slow regardless, or to zone enemies in a similar way that Corki does, without even having to put himself in a possibly risky situation to do so.

I'd say it's situationally better, not just outright better. Also, Corki's ult is mostly for poke and tri-force procs, I'm honestly not too concerned if he has a stronger independent ability, especially given that it's on a fairly lengthy cooldown.

Kalarepa6 votes

Ok, how much sustained damage can Leblanc do? She bursts someone and then she has to wait 15 seconds for another combo. Meanwhile Corki continues doing high damage.
And how fast can Leblanc destroy towers? Corki will melt them. Can Leblanc be first picked for mid, but then go to bot lane if she gets counterpicked?

There's a reason, why pros spam Corki in tournaments. He's better than the other champions in multiple roles. That's bad balance.

stealthfox942 votes

Leblanc is still ultra squishy, Corki was always supposed to be a burst AD caster, not surprised he got one-shot.

Bârd14 votes

the 110% scaling on autos has always been there, it just used to be 10% bonus true damage instead.

Steelflame3 votes

Converting half of his autos (including sheen procs) is a rather massive boost in average damage output. Average MR is lower than average armor.

I've been claiming Corki was pretty good post rework, it just took him some time to get the spotlight to shine on him as people figured out exactly how to build and play him.

Elindis4 votes

No it's not. He had 100% physical and additional 10% true damage. He built last whisper, so he bypassed tons of armor anyways. Now he's 55% magical 55% physical. Corki goes MRpen runes and sorcs, so he deals mainly magical damage. That means he won't be getting any ARpen -> much more damage mitigated by armor. Getting 100 armor is very easy, and it reduces his physical output by 1/2...

/i remember back ol' days when they changed Jarvan's passive from magical to physical damage. While it was nerf on the paper because average MR was lower, it was actually buff for J4 because his build often included brutalizer or last whisper anyways

Feathermane14 votes

Because the game has poor role differentiation. People think that mages = burst and adc = sustained dps, tanks = lots of cc and low dps, same for supports. This simply isn't the case in League. Any class has champions with lots of burst, plenty of tanks do a lot of damage, supports can outdamage carries due to their aoe, some assassins are really safe etc. There are no hard rules when it comes to this.

Cherysse10 votes

He deals too much damage specially in the early game, the way his abilities scale with LVL is insane, if he is going to have stupid hybrid ratios he shouldnt have that much base damage, its insane, specially when his core item item 3078 doesn't grant heavy amounts of AD.

"Corki is such an unconventional and fun midlaner!" yeah until you face it and want to cry

Elindis3 votes

Then you pick LB/Zed/Yas into Corki and laugh your ass off Seriously, look at his kit. passive: his attacks do 10% more damage, but half part of his auto damage goes away thanks to non-existent ARpen Q- slow aoe nuke without any special side effect W- escape ability with high mana cost/CD and pretty low damage E- Rumble's Flamethrower with laughable damage, shreds some armor/MR R- semi-spammable low damage hard-to-hit skillshot.

He's popular only because he's played in LCS, it will be fun to watch when people realize Kassadin has now 1.1s CD on his R and that he does retarded amount of damage in mid-late game...

Serika Zero6 votes

Corki is popular because: He is an ADC that does magic damage. So, even in a full AD comp, Corki is bringing you mixed damage. He builds AD, so his damage on turrets as well as minions (early game farming) is above that of APCs. He is quite safe in lane.

And then, every 5 minutes. He can destroy the enemy laners. Like. You lane for 8 minutes, get your lv 6+. You get your Sheen. You go pick package. And then you fly to one of your lanes (where you don't belong).

I prefer doing this to the bot lane, as they are under leveled, and I can get 2 kills over 1 kill on top/mid. So, you come in, you use your W from the fog of war. You knock aside the enemy bot laners, zoning them out from their escape path. While they try to realize what happens, you QE them and spam aas and missiles.

Why this works? You gank from lane, there's no lane wards (if there are any wards, they are on the river). So, the enemy won't see you coming. Package range is huge. You got a 40% movement speed buff while running with Package in your "inventory". So, you get to bot/top/mid (in case you are top laner) 40% faster than normal. And the damage this thing does if the enemy tries to ignore it and go though that path is huge also a huge slow. So, you can use it in such a way that the only way for your enemy to fight is moving towards your team. Which usually means suicide (especially if the enemy adc has to walk towards your adc and your support). Since you get your W off cooldown, even if they flash away, you can W after them to follow up.

Elindis1 votes

And if your enemy sits under their turret when they hear Corki picking up package? What then? Anyone with brain stays safe when there is that sound and Corki is nowhere to be seen... Corki is squishy as hell, especially in early game. He can't afford to jump into 3 people without getting instantly CC'd and blown up.

Sure, it's very good when assasinating someone 1v1, but against multiple people it can't be used in such way...

Serika Zero3 votes

but this never happens. Look, if the enemy is in lane. Most, if not all of the time. They are near the minion wave. If the minion wave is on the middle of the lane, they won't back under their turret and screaming CORKI CORKI CORKI. If the minion wave is near our turret, they still won't back off that much. Even if the minion wave is near THEIR turret. That means my team mates are nearby, and the turret is currently focusing minions. Which also means my team mates can harass them under tower until I arrive.

I won't run into 1v3. I'll run and change a 2v2 into 3v2 or a 1v1 into 1v2. But doing that faster than any jungler and from a longer range

Elindis1 votes

So when enemy mid laner, say Zed goes missing, your top and ADC don't fall back because there might be gank incoming? You don't even need global sound to know you have to fall back and play carefully. If you add that global sound, it's like being retarded or something when you get caught by it...

It's basically like this:

  1. Mid pings Corki is missing
  2. You hear his Package activation
  3. "huh, whatever, ill farm more"
  4. You get jumped on by Corki, ADC and Support and you die
  5. blame mid for not following and go afk because everyone is a noob

reminds me of good ol' bronze games...

Serika Zero3 votes

if Zed goes mia for example. Normally in your perfect world, both top laner and adc should give up 1 wave of farm and experience for it until Zed shows up on the map again right?

The thing is, this never happens. And I'm playing at plat-dia elo.

Because, lets say, if the Zed player notices how your team backs off farm and exp when he goes in fog of war. He doesn't even have to roam. He can just WEQ wave, go hide. And watch the enemy laners lose both pressure and exp and gold.

We generally use wards to spot where mid laners go to (and we also trust out ability to disengage). When mid laners recall, its generally 30 seconds of free time and they have to come to mid to pick up farm or lose quite a bit (farm, exp, turret dmg). While corki can dash to other lanes with 40% speed buff, and the engage range of 2 malphite ultimates. And he won't be spotted by wards, since rarely to never in normal play (not 5v5) are the lanes warded in the laning phase (even in lcs, they only do it in lane swaps)

Do note, especially if the adc is at like 1200g, they will over extend for that 100g more to get the BF sword. Backing off farm, or recalling. Doesn't just happen because 1 person is mia. Power spikes are important, and that's the reason we farm for.

HigeR3 votes

he doesn't have that much damage to be honest, the problem here is that itemizing against him requires tanks to be smart, building Armor or MR won't stop him whatsoever, but building health will, even though he can just build a BotRK this will lower his dps quite a bit, tanks like Mundo, Zac, Sion or anyone who scales with HP will give Corki a hard time.

Get this in your head, Corki doesn't have burst but he will lower your MR/Armor just enough so that his attacks do almost true damage and the counter to this is health. Of course, the only option an ADC has against him is probably doing damage from range, his only ranged spell is his ult and he relies on this to proc trinity force, if he looses all his rockets his dps sinks quite a lot.

As far as the package, I mean... I can't believe people is complaining about this, he has a GLOBAL alert :S just fall back immediately and play defensive, you know he will jump at some point, take advange of this, focus your CC, he's squishy as hell :S

Elindis3 votes

Like 70 or 80% of his damage is magical, so MR helps alot. Basically everything in his burst is magical... Bork is terrible idea on him, as it does not synergize with him at all

HigeR1 votes

MR will help mitigate some of his damage, Armor too, not as much I guess but still gatling gun will lower any resistances you have EXCEPT health, that's why his only way to fight back against a health tank is in fact a BotRK which, as you kindly pointed out, has no synergy with his kit, by building health you force Corki into a game that he'll loose, next step is simply standing in front of him and your team.

It's because AD is over powered. Seriously, if given the choice every champion would choose to scale with AD instead of AP. There are more build options, easier 40% cdr, and realistically you're not missing much in terms of burst damage despite loosing raw #s in having lower AD than you could obtain in terms of AP, if you just start or end with an auto attack or two and manage to crit while having item 3031 ...

THESuperStuntMan2 votes

It's more that he can do magic damage by building the op ADC items instead of the terrible AP items. I think this is the root cause of why he's been OP.

cause riot wants all the ADC to be able to use their skills and out burst mages and then be able to walk up and AA them without any skill for 500-1000 damage. OOO While also ccing the fuck out of 2-5 people with their skills.

can confirm. corki with phage/sheen and level 6 is just truly busted. once he gets trinity you cannot fight him even 2 v 1 as his burst will kill one of you nearly instantly. A phosphorous bomb into auto will do half your life. granted, he's always done this. the problem now is that he scales better into the later game because of his mixed damage. half magic damage autos that work with your pen boots mean your autos hurt man.
