Please give dodgers in ARAM a REAL penalty

I'm sick of trying to play a 20 minute ARAM game but it ends up being a 20 minute in and out of champion selects because someone dodges every time. The penalty is a little bigger than in other queues (15 to 60 minutes instead of 6-15) but people can just queue up for ARAM, dodge and play another game or on another account and come back like nothing happened.

I was thinking along the lines of a 1 day ARAM-restriction for habitual dodgers.

Another thing is to give the same champion back after the dodge.

It's not really necessary. It's also not going to stop dodgers... it's just going to promote smurfing.

By and far, there is one most critical point to think on when dealing with League and punishments. By damning one behavior, do you promote another?

'Course it ain't much matter to me here, there's the same number of dodgers either way probably. There's no reason not to, even with a punishment, since you can just smurf and it's just ARAM (IE no rank; you might even match with lesser-skilled players).

EDIT: I should mention I'm near 3000 games of ARAM played. Dodging is a problem, but if we deal with it the wrong way we're just going to make a new problem to take its place.

A stronger penalty would be acceptable if Riot changed the way champions are assigned to have some semblance of balance. When my team has an Irelia, Udyr, and Evelynn, there's simply no point in playing that match. It would not be fun for anyone.

If people wouldn't dodge all the time, the teams wouldn't HAVE TO have 4 top tier champs to win. I'd love to play matches sometimes with bad champs on both sides. OFA in Howling Abyss with melee match ups were the best games of my life.

I wouldn't mind matches with four bad champion per side either, but if my team has four bad ones, I'm not going to rely on the RNG for the other team to also have four bad ones. If it were decently reliable to expect that if one team had four bad champions, the other had at least three, I absolutely would not dodge in those scenarios. Obviously, I don't expect Riot to go through each champion, give each a strength value in ARAM, and ensure the matchmaking gives each team close total strength values (though I think they should do that). However, it would be extremely easy and extremely beneficial to ensure both teams always have the same amount of melee champions and by extension the same amount of ranged champions.

Yes, they could use the winrates of each champion, add them up and have the total approximately the same. This would mean, however, that you can't get a Sona after rerolling Udyr because you would screw up the balance.

As for ranged - melee, there's also a huge discrepancy within these groups. Maokai is currently the 3rd best champion while Nidalee, Leblanc, Kindred, Ryze, etc. are all in the lower brackets. Granted that most of these 'bad' ranged champions are just a matter of high skill floor.

Rerolls could go to a different champion with a similar strength.

Doing that would absolutely not be a perfect solution. But it would yield a high amount of benefit for an extremely low amount of effort.

I agree.

Looking forward to your same whiny threads in Season VIII (and Season IX)!

Has it been >24 hours since your last "DUR DUR DUR MY ARAM OPPONENTS ARE ALL SONA-CAITLYN-NIDALEE SMURFS RITO PLZ FIX" thread? Because Gameplay needs more of that.
