A coupla questions about Gangplank

Darth Valer··1 votes·482 views
  1. Is it good to buy boots on GP?
  2. What's the best build order for his Critplank version? 2-a) Best runes? 2-b) Best starting items? (against tanks / bruisers / high damage bullies i.e. Riven & Fiora etc...)
  3. Are other version of GP comparable to Critplank in the proportion Critplank : Fun = [Alt. GP] : In-Meta Usefulness?
  4. Is the IE nerf still up on the PBE?
  5. Did you build (as I did, sometimes u_u) Atma's Impaler on him and do you miss that item in general?

Thank you in advance and feel free to answer only to some of the question. Plz don't be a pirate hater à_à

My additional thoughts on the questions (which I didn't write on the main post not to enlarge it more than necessary and because I don't know how to "[Spoiler]" things, if that's possible):

  1. I don't think they are necessary since he naturally reaches 415-420 movement speed without them (and even more with the E active), but I see them often built by pro's. I think avoiding boots allows for major damage / defense in the early to mid-game stages and a whole slot late game for situational items.
  2. I've gone through many build paths and as of late I'm getting good results with: Sheen -> (optional) Avarice Blade -> Trinity Force -> Statikk Shiv -> Infinity Edge -> Frozen Heart (I've preferred Randuin's Omen for a long time, but in the last games I've been trying Frozen Heart for the glorious 20 % CDR) -> Spirit Visage -> Last Whisper (in case of high armor in the enemy team) / Youmuu's Ghostblade (in all other cases) 2-a) I'm currently going with 11 AD - 5 ArPen - 9 Armor - 12 MRes runes, but I'll create a new rune page as soon as Rito puts 'em on 2x1 sale with 5 % crit instead of ArPen (and I ask to you wether this is a good thought or no) 2-b) As of now I build Crystal Sapphire + 2 Health Pots when I feel I'm in a safe lane, one where I should be the active player rather than the passive farmer. Otherwise I pick Cloth + 4 HP + 1 MP against High damage bullies or Cristalline + Pots against AP bullies.
  3. I've never tried anything but Critplank and I enjoy it everytime I don't feed u_u
  4. I fear GP will suffer from it since he is not as much a DPS damage dealer as adc are and thus cannot replace SS with PD (to get back the lost crit-chance) since he would renounce to a good chunk of his burst damage on Q.
  5. I miss it u_u I'd rather buy it than Frozen Heart / Randuin's Omen, I admit it xD

Boots are mostly useful for their other utility on GP and other champions with movespeed buffs. Tenacity, autoattack reduction and slow resistance are powerful enough in the right situations to completely validate the use of an item slot. Like, seriously, 10%damage reduction on autoattacks for only 1000g is godsend for melee champs.

Crit runes are hilarious because of the way the rng works, but I would recommend 1% crit at the most, because flat AD is just way more valuable early game, and more crit chance becomes pretty meaningless around 40-45%.

As for the IE nerf, I feel it will be more impactful to ADCs than to GP because GP's damage combo is usually Q followed by as many as 2 autoattacks, meaning he's likely to only get 1-2 crits anyways in a skirmish, while an adc will auto nonstop for the duration of a fight, possibly as many as 25-30 shots will be fired, leading to a much wider area of "dangit i need more crits"

shiv ->sheen->infinity edge->complete sheen into iceborn or triforce or watever Always take boots at some point, no such thing as too much movement speed
