I am about to win my promos to Silver, but I am unhappy. And you want to know why?
Because I'm not playing my favorite champion, the one I have taken years to master and learn. I am not playing Shen in Solo Queue. In fact, I have played Poppy, a tank who:
-Has superior base stats -Has better scaling with stats -Has a better shield on her passive -Has more reliable CC (In terms of landing it and bugs) -Has a more useful defensive tool -Doesn't have a shitty laning phase -Can actually soak up a shit ton of damage in fights
Previously, I played Shen because I loved the way his kit felt. The taunt, the shields, being clever and outsmarting your opponent. But most of all, that ULT! Global savior with a nice shield and a surprise taunt to turn that fight around!
Now his shield is lackluster, has a niche use that it's not even good at, and his kit has all but nerfed to hell. 48.5% win rate on Leaguegraphs not because the ult changes or the E hitbox bump were that much of a buff, but because you turned him into a lane-shredding monster who is not the champion I fell in love with. And with the overall health reductions on tank items recently, his passive shield, E damage, and titanic hydra have taken even MORE hits, so Shen feels even less impactful with items.
I promised to play my favorite champion no matter what happens, but good god it is getting harder when I can simply pick up a different champion, do the same thing with less effort, and get better results.
I miss Shen's ult shield. I miss being the protector of my carries rather than a failure to them, the tank that would eat the blows for my team rather than get blown up because it takes 4 armor items to be on par with the meta tanks, the semi-passive laner that would punish your mistakes and prevent you from snowballing with my wave management and proper positioning, a god damn fucking tank.
I know this is a rant and this will probably get plummeted to the depths of downvote-ville, but I just needed to rant and express my sorrow for what Riot has turned my champion into. For anybody reading this, thank you for reading the words of a sad Bronzie who will soon be in Silver because he decided not to play the one champion he promised to dedicate himself to.
