Riot, for all of the Shen players out there, make this one change for us...

Melledoneus··253 votes·8,741 views

Please make it so that Shen's "Spirit Blade" is not visible when he's in the fog of war. Make it like Ekko's ghost in which it's only visible if he is.

Seriously, he's the worst ninja ever if he can't hide a giant glowing sword.

Sincerely, A Bronze (Almost Silver At Heart) Shen main

PS: If the word "Bronze" triggers you, please do not reply. Don't feel like dealing with Bronze shaming right now.

Unfortunately this wouldn't change my opinion that Shen's update is garbage. But +1

Melledoneus4 votes

Shen's update is fun, you just have to play it. It kind of irks me about the "getting slowed by walking AWAY" ordeal. He doesn't seem to have a clear-cut initiation combo now.

Catastrop1 votes

What are you talking about? E, into Q while they're taunted. Also, I'm quite sure this is a mechanic that goes without needing to be said. It would pretty stupid if the enemy knew where Shen was at all times.

Melledoneus1 votes

I was just referencing how Shen will be facing his enemy when he taunts through them, so the slow will technically not happen unless they run towards YOUR team.

Unless you're ballsy like me and come from the middle of their team.

Pikmints3 votes

I think his Q serves more like a soft-taunt than an ordinary slow. If somebody wants to fight/chase Shen, they can do so unimpeded, but if they want to run in any direction while Shen is autoing them, it will at some point become a slow. Whether they run from Shen into your team or run past Shen into their own team, unless Shen's going to be successfully "kiting" into the enemy team, the only way to avoid the slow seems to be fighting Shen.

Its fun, you're right, it was fun, for about 2 hours then i realized how gimped he is and it was no longer fun. I get my ass handed to me in lane even more than before and i have to spend a shitload of gold on HP pots.. Might as well play him jungle or support because he's not gana be winning top lane match ups EVER. And before you say "well he never did anyways" wrong, he had winning match ups, albeit not a lot, even if he was in a losing lane he could still at least farm. Now he just gets dumpstered.

Melledoneus2 votes

If his sustain being gone hurts him in the following patches, then they should up his regen even more. I think higher regen is better for Shen since he doesn't even need to auto to get his Q heal now.

However, I'm going to miss being able to snipe people with my Q when they were running and getting a kill out of it.

I ask my doctor the same thing, how am I suppose to be sneaky if I cant hide my giant glowing sword in a bush.

Melledoneus7 votes

...why is it glowing?

Similar to how Heimerdinger's turret pop up when he goes near them and how Illaoi's tentacles go... erect... when she approaches, you can tell Shen is there if you can see his sword.

This is the same issue Ekko used to have. And they fixed it, so why can't they give it to Shen?

It's still annoying because if I'm a Shen waiting in a bush to ambush someone and I have to use my Q and waste precious energy to get that damn sword in the bush, then what the heck?

And how is that different from... well, any champion with a gapcloser and/or ranged CC who doesn't have a dead giveaway to his position?

Melledoneus21 votes

Let's say I'm Fiora. I have 300 AD. I'm in a top lane bush. You come near the bush. I ult you and deal almost all your HP in true damage with almost no counterplay at all.

Or I'm Gangplank. I have a barrel and I'm in the bush. I instantly put down a barrel on top of you, detonate it, then auto you to death and keep chaining barrels until you die. You're slowed to kingdom come, so you can't do anything even if you're the tankiest motherf*cker out there.

Hello, I'm Garen. I wait inside bushes to silence you, shred your HP dosn with an ability I don't even have to aim with, then use an ability that nukes you for having missing HP. Doesn't that scream counterplay?

My point is that many champions can pull off that scenario better. It's advantageous, and it's not like Shen has Mundo-levels of damage. Mundo's Q does more %HP damage than Shen's Q in three autos (from full HP, I assume). I don't understand why you are so adamant about keeping a tank irrelevent.

EDIT: Just replied to the wrong person. Well played, mobile site.

and yet Ekko, who has a rewind abilty that does massive A.O.E damage, can have his shadow hidden if he is in fog of war?

Ralimak6 votes

That is because Ekko's shadow literally follows him. If it were visible while he was in the fog of war, anyone could follow him around the entire map, and Ekko couldn't know about it. He could never recall safely or pull a juke like dashing over a wall in the fog or lose someone in the jungle by making an unexpected turn because a few seconds later, the enemy could follow the shadow right to him.

Shen's sword doesn't follow him in the same way. It sits in one spot unless he gets too far away, and then it jumps toward him. Much harder for the enemy to take advantage of the sword other than "Oh, here's the sword - therefore, Shen must be somewhere within a 4000 unit diameter of here. But where?"

That makes me wonder, if Kalista is hidden, but her Oath Sworn isn't, is the connection still visible? (And vice versa.)

I'm surprised I haven't seen it to know for myself, and also, sorry for off-topic.

No, it's actually not. Noone on the enemy team can see it unless both players are visible.

not true shens blade can be on the other side of the map from him he just moves it with his q

Hoodwink1 votes

No, his blade is actually tethered to him so that it keeps in range of him at all times. If he leaves the range, the blade essentially gets dragged along behind him.

The Other Keller2 votes

You are wrong, I have played him on PBE it stays in the same spot and only moves when shen either : uses Q, Teleports, ults, or backs.

Apparently it's intended. And I find that annoying, considering how Shen's E is the easiest CC skillshot to dodge in the game.

Have you tried landing a Varus ulti?

That hitbox is so janky it makes Shen's look like heaven.

Melledoneus3 votes

At least Varus doesn't have to serve himself to an enemy on a silver platter when he does it, though.

Moxu Kraze3 votes

Personally I think this update caused more issues than it solved, I have some complaints about the model of the sword too, it's too big!

Check out our article on this update on: https://moxugaming.wordpress.com/2016/01/14/shenriana-update/#more-154

Melledoneus2 votes

That article is hilarious. Props to the writer and an upvote for you!

But it does bring up a good point. Riot was trying to hard to make Shen's Q outplayable in lane so much they forgot to compensate for his split-push ult-carry play style.

Thanks! Appreciate the support!

Tbh he is already the worst ninja ever. Since when are ninjas tanks (._.)/.

Hoodwink31 votes

If you've never heard of a ninja that's a tank, that just means that they're good ninjas.

Shen

ahferroin72 votes

Why do people have such trouble understanding that not all ninja's were stealthy? In a lot of cases, there was one person in the group who was responsible for being the biggest freaking distraction possible, so that it was easier for his companions to be stealthy. Shen is, and has always been, that individual within the Kinkou.

Lazypeon1003 votes

Probably because it isn't shown very well in popular culture as well as being counter intuitive when one first thinks about it. I don't think people would have troubles understanding it, more that it just isn't well known.

Also, I can't even find a good example of it on Wikipedia even.

BurtMaclinFBI1 votes

Yeah...except shen's /joke says "if light's so fast, why has it never caught a ninja" so at the very least this comment doesn't work with the lore.

Ariel the Cruel3 votes
  1. it's a joke. Riot didn't take themselves as seriously back then.
  2. Lux catches him all the time.
  3. Leona does to.
1 Wing2 votes

I don't think that's true. Ninjas are famous for being, particularly quiet. Even the first line, of the wikipedia page for ninja, reads: " ninja (忍者?) or shinobi (忍び?) was a covert agent or mercenary in feudal Japan. The functions of the ninja included: espionage, sabotage, infiltration, assassination and guerrilla warfare." All of those are stealth-based activities; that's what ninjas are known for

Your point is like saying, "not all members of seal team 6, are stealthy." Yes they fucking are!! Some of them might reveal themselves, to cause a distraction, but if they aren't actively revealing themselves, then yes they're completely stealthy! They choose how stealthy to be.

ShieldWarrior1 votes

is it even matter. shen is like mundo not akali or kazix.

Melledoneus9 votes

Shen is NOT like Mundo. Mundo is a big, ugly, smelly, stupid hunk of mutated purple masochism and Shenpai is so muscular and handsome and... clears throat

Kha'Zix is a cockroach. Akali is a wannabe ninja, learning from her Shenpai. Shen is the ultimate ninja.
