What if windwall bounced skills instead of cancelling them?

Disulfiram··34 votes·2,944 views

It would be hilarious to see. Just imagine Syndra ulting, and all those spheres just being shot back in all directions. XD

It would also allow some very nice plays, like redirecting an enemy Blitzcrank's grab on your allied Amumu for a free initiation.

And it would also be open for spectacular misplays, like Yasuo windwalling behind himself and, as a result, being hit twice by an enemy Nami's tsunami.

EDIT: Why do so many keep getting get the idea that I wrote that "abilities change ownership"? I wrote "redirecting an ENEMY Blitzcrank's grab on your ALLIED Amumu". It means that the grab is still owned by Blitz's team, it's just redirected on the Amumu that is on Yasuo's team.

EDIT2: Targeted abilities and AAs could actually be treated like Twitch's ulti. Meaning, they can be transformed by the wall into linear skillshots (but then set to disappear after they hit their first enemy or get out of range). (Idea by deadlychuck)

was already proposed

apparently spaguetti code is preventing that

So that yasuo can be even more cancerous? Yeah, no thanks. You're cute though.

it wouldn't make him more cancerous. If you read the whole post (which is not even long) you'd see that it would still be a hostile projectile, it wouldn't become friendly.

I can see it now, Yas reflects an Ashe arrow coming across the map in top lane, it proceeds to hit his midlaner as they engage in a trade.

I'd just be happy with it if it were an actual diagonal wall instead of a circular wall or a 4 walls square or whatever the heck shape zone it is. The visual on this thing is damned misleading.

I think it's difficult to code for several reasons. The wall at current doesn't even cancel per se. Off screen, in the void beyond the confines of a game, is a single, unkillable minion. Yasuo's Wind Wall, when it stops a projectile, redirects that projectile once it comes into contact with the wall to the mysterious unkillable minion, making it the target. So all it is doing is redirecting projectiles, not actually nullifying them. This is also why projectiles like Orianna's ball don't disappear when they hit the wall - it would blow up her coding if the ball was unretrievable off screen. Zilean is an exception, his bombs are stopped because it would utterly ruin him if he couldn't use his 1 damaging ability against Yasuo.

Better question:

What if Yasuo was removed from the game entirely?

Nothing of value would be lost.

deadlychuck2 votes

I actually had this same idea a while ago. What if you made it more like a wedge instead of a wall.

It fits yasuo's theme a little bit better, using his sword to cut through the air, and it's a pretty easy calculation to make it deflect off in the same direction every time. Not destroying the projectile, but redirecting it in a different direction.

It would turn it into an ability more like bard ult, where a good use could save your team, but a poor use could cost them the fight.

Electrify691 votes

Pls don't make yasuo more cancer I like this game and have finally gotten over my fear of that champion and only ever see him in my terrible nightmares. For the Love of God and all that is holy don't as rito to make him stronger or I may have a mental breakdown he is that frustrating

SpecterVonBaren7 votes

How would it make him stronger? The skillshots would be redirected to other places as apposed to just fizzling out, it would be a nerf if anything.

Sp33d Zer01 votes

If they can damage yasuo enemies then it is a buff. Yasuos team hides behind the wall anyway

SpecterVonBaren2 votes

All he said was that they bounce off his windwall, he didn't say anything about them hurting the people that fired them.

BeatzBoyFTW1 votes

If the bounced-back projectiles affects the enemies instead of your own teammates as you suggested, then I would love it lol.

Wimbledofy2 votes

he never suggested that. l2read

BeatzBoyFTW2 votes

It would also allow some very nice plays, like redirecting a Blitzcrank's grab on your Amumu.

Accidentally misread this as his teammate's Blitzcrank. Mb.

Legacy Hydralpha1 votes

Honestly seeing him bounce back projectiles would be hilarious as hell, and maybe people would stop spamming every ability they had into it whenever it popped up. It would need some other changes to make it a bit balanced, because not only are you stopping projectiles you're using them to your advantage. Maybe the cooldown, duration, or width could be changed to compensate, and hopefully the shit where the wall spawns ON TOP of him.

Khadaver4 votes

I think the post is saying that the reflected skillshots can still hit you and your team, not enemies

Nymzo1 votes

Would be nice if someone could reflect skillshots (as a ultimate)

MatthewRT24 votes

unless it causes those skill shots to become there own and damage the enemy team it is not ult worthy

LaytoSlayz1 votes

This would not work very well if you take into account that AA's are blocked by wind wall. How would AA's work?

deadlychuck3 votes

They'd probably get turned into a projectile that continues for the remaining distance, similar to how twitch's auto attacks become projectiles during his ult.

LaytoSlayz1 votes

hmm. ok cool.

YoungSirJ0ey1 votes

First of all, Windwall is already quite stupid and doesn't need more power.

Second of all, you're proposing that redirected spells could hit both allies and enemies, and that would be confusing for everyone involved.

Third of all, how would you propose it redirects targeted projectiles, like, say, Veigar's ult? Would it stop at the first champion hit? Would it hit Veigar? There are far too many interactions for it to be coded reasonably.

IF they where to do that, I'd see the Windwall being considered an Ultimate..

Like that'd be broken af, itd' be broken if the person who ulted to the windwall, went back and they took the dmg.

I like the idea with the exception of an ability changing ownership, although it would be hilarious to watch that crank hook like you said; it's unnecessary and impossible to balance.

But simply reflecting the abilities I think would be enough to have a big impact on the game. This would certainly solve the unfairness of having long cooldowns like Ashe ulti completely disappear.

What I like most about this idea is that it forces Yasuo to be on the frontline during team fights, or else that windwall will consequently harm his allies when Ashe arrow still punishes someone on his team.

Pretty much: the more chicken yasuo is, the more it will cost his team. It fits perfect with his courageous character.

edit: all targeted abilities and AAs must still disappear for this to work. Just let skillshots be reflected.

Disulfiram1 votes

Why do so many keep getting the idea that I wrote that "abilities change ownership"? I didn't! I instead wrote "redirecting an ENEMY Blitzcrank's grab on your ALLIED Amumu".

Anyway, targeted abilities and AAs can actually be treated like Twitch's ulti. Meaning, they can be transformed by the wall into linear skillshots (but then set to disappear after they hit their first enemy).

Keylight XD2 votes

Oh you are right, I somehow misunderstood that blitz hook onto amumu, sorry! I read it wrong :S strange.

it is possible to transform them into skillshots but considering how the original mechanic of the ability/AA works, how would you determine how far the projectile travels? can't be the same for all of them, I think this is more complicated programming then you realize. compare GP gunshot to regular caitlyn AA etc. Also, not just range but also the hitboxes of particles flying. syndra ulti balls vs vayne AA?

would be awesome to watch but a nightmare for the guy(s) trying to implement it.

Disulfiram1 votes

Imho:

how would you determine how far the projectile travels? can't be the same for all of them, I think this is more complicated programming then you realize.

DistanceTraveledAfterBounce = MaxRange - DistanceToWallImpact So, a Caitlyn shooting the windwall point blank would have them ricochet much further than if attacking at max range.

(Assuming that autoattack's max range represents how far the bullet can travel before losing too much force to still be relevant, then them ricocheting this way makes sense)

Also, not just range but also the hitboxes of particles flying. syndra ulti balls vs vayne AA?

Sundra's spheres already have an hitbox (compare her Q+E combo) Autoattacks could be treated as simple points traveling in an unidimensional line; the first valid (=enemy to their owner) hitbox they intersect is the target they hit.
