Game duration and internet cafes

It is said that RIOT is trying to keep games short for the internet cafes users, so that they can cram more matches in the hour they're being charged for.

Now, besides the fact that personally I'd take one good 45 minutes match over three 15 minutes curbstomps any time, there's a fact I'd like to point out: we already had a short, fast paced game mode.

So, my question is: if your goal is to have fast paced short games for the internet cafes crowd to enjoy, then why are you killing Summoner's Rift for it?

#Just bring back Dominion instead!

Maybe polish it, assign someone to keep it somewhat balanced, keep the bots away... you know, do the things that would have prevented (in the general consensus) it from dying and there you are: you have your exciting but short games without having to sacrifice Summoner's Rift.

It just might be that those people WANT to play Summoner's Rift. Now I am NOT supporting Riot's decision to shorten games bu I'm just pointing out that a lot of the people who play in internet cafes are very competitive and that they probably only have interest in playing the competitive LoL mode, which is SR.

Could they not simply make a second mode?

I mean like, make a version of Rift with increased damages and gold gen, call it Rift Blitz, boom done.

You could even give it a separate Ranked class, like TT.

Even DOTA has a mode called DOTA turbo where games at most take 20 minutes

Tbh, some of my friends and family in China practically live in internet cafes. They're not expensive, and actually pretty comfortable. They pretty much go home to shower and see family once in a while, or to get some money. (Although WeChat payments are now a thing, apparently, and so are divorces) But yeah, a lot of the addicts who spend hundreds of dollars and hours pretty much live in internet cafes or have a pc at home. Don't think shorter games will do much, I spoke to my cousins over the phone and they mentioned that they also didn't like how snowbally the games are, and one of them who used to be a diamond and spent enough money on the game to cover a year's worth of tuition fees decided to quit due to him not agreeing with the changes.

We still have ARAM, but that doesn't seem to help.

You mean the game mode where games 'r actually longer than current SR?

And ranged still are cancer to melees like in SR so nothing rly changes.

if only the melee champion was in a game with teammates to help him deal with the ranged champion...

If only there was a low-cooldown summoner spell specifically designed to help melees better fight against ranged enemies..

summoner 32 Hmmmmm... summoner 32

Jaygo412 votes

Yeah that's why you really don't see much Yasuo Irelia bottom lane, huh?

Haha... I played a game of ARAM yesterday... was supposed to be a quick match while I waited for my bf to log on...

42 minutes later, neither team can end after a win fight, and everyone is full build and going "GET ME OUT" and "IT NEVER ENDS" in all chat. Was brutal

I've never been to a internet cafe. Why would people in Canada bring their laptops to play League in a McDonalds or Tim Hortons I've never seen that ever. Library's you can't download games and such, so highly unlikely in Canada.

From what I understand the cafes supply the computers, and you can usually find the popular games like LoL, WoW, etc. already downloaded. Just have to log in and go.

Internet cafe's generally have decent - very good computers + high speed internet.

I mean, I’d cater to the most competitive and highest level players too.

Considering that they make up a majority of the player base, it seems pretty plausible to me.

Dominion plays very differently than SR, and while I enjoyed it, I could easily see it not appealing to others.

What about Twisted Treeline? From what I understand, before Tencent made Riot start balancing around Asian internet cafes, TT matches were already at the ideal length Riot seems to be shooting for. It plays very similarly to normal mode (laning, jungle, epic monster, nexus to punch to death). Best of all, it even already has a ranked mode to jerk your epeen off in show off your skill!

People sure say a lot of stuff about Riot where you're from. Nothing of that sort has been said. And I'm telling you that for both of your posts.

I've seen that statement several times before. TBH, it's the second most logical explanation after "catering to new gamer market with short attention spans". Especially since most of the snowballing (and shorter game times) started after an Asian company bought Riot.

Ranked Dominion for the serious matches, and then it’ll be perfect

If they wanted to do things like that in the first place they would. But the cold, hard fact is that Dominion isn't $ummoner's Rift and as such they all but abandoned it months before its official death.

years actually

the only time the developers even noted dominion was if there were a game-breaking bug for it
