If you hover Kayn in ranked today, I am going to ban him.

Theorchero··145 votes·6,223 views

I might be an ass to ban a champion you wanted to play, but you are a much bigger ass to play him in ranked the first day of his release. Come back in a week and we'll talk.

Also, why aren't new champions disabled in ranked for the first week of their release, like wtf? It's 2017 Rito, pls.

I almost forgot you are a unique Snowflake. Only you feel this way. We have never had this post before or the millions of request to lock new champs out of ranked.

True but Riot doesn't agree and refuses to say why.

Sun Wu Ryuumoku9 votes

Because the reason is obvious.

Limrick1 votes

Mind enlightening us? Having a champ where it isn't even possible to have good experience on them available is stupid.

Sun Wu Ryuumoku15 votes

Because they need reliable sample to balance their game. And normal games aren't reliable (their full of low elo). High elo play more to Ranked.

btw Khayn don't ask much experience, any decent jungler can first time him and do a decent game. He isn't as Ivern...

Andrey03454 votes

True, I don't understand why people are so mad about other players first-timing new champions in ranked since a lot of new champions aren't that hard mechanically, everyone saw his kit since reveal, and Kayn indeed isn't difficult.

SociopathFriend11 votes

They have actually gone on threads similar to this a few times I think. Basically it goes down to player's choice.

You want to first-time Aurelion Sol in ranked? You can- nothing stops you. You want to first-time Ashe in ranked? You can- nothing stops you. It's up to the individual whether they believe they're capable of winning as the champion- not the other players. This doesn't change for new champions vs old ones.

However, on a personal note, for some reason these threads always assume you know nothing about the champion; which I find dishonest. Riot releases videos and written summaries of what they do. Youtube is chock-full of people on the PBE showing you what they do. At that point all you lack is personal playing experience, which is no different from old champions you haven't played either.

I agree you shouldn't first-time stuff in ranked, but I disagree that it's something that needs to be prevented, it's player-choice; not yours. Unless you ban it- in which case it is indeed your choice. Which, funnily enough, was one of the points of the new ban system- everyone gets a choice. You don't want someone playing the new champion? Congrats- you get your wish.

Sun Wu Ryuumoku4 votes

Just remind they're stupid enough to not look at these video, and cry cause they don't know how to play with (not only against).

StarGuardianWeeb2 votes

watching someone do something and being able to are not the same. I watch esports streams and "amazing pro play" highlights but im not a platinum faker-esque god. Yeah it helps you know things ahead of time, but plenty of champs come with abilities that are hard to grasp until you play. How many people fucked up jihn ults on release cause NOTHING in any video said "press R to fire bullets" they always just said "press R, and shoot people"

You're other points are spot on, but yeah the point is dont flame me becuase im banning the new champ. Whether or not my teamamte wnated it, i cant trust they know how to play it. And theres alreayd enough BS in trying to climb i dont need "i trieda champ i knew nothing about" to be one of them.

Winters Dawn33 votes

Ive played him since he came out on the pbe, many games. Would you still ban him even tho ove had 2 weeks of play time with him?

Joseph Gladstone76 votes

yes

IcyPepper9 votes

Why tho

If he's not lying, then what's the point then? o.O

Sp33d Zer028 votes

Because how can you tell if he is telling the truth?

Votable Jester5 votes

You seem to have missed the condition.

Sp33d Zer021 votes

There is no way to really verify if someone has been spamming him on PBE

Votable Jester1 votes

They could give you their pbe summoner name to look up. It isn't a total guarantee, but it's fairly good.

Tormentula17 votes

They could give you anybody's pbe.

aspects17 votes

i dont think people will try that hard to convince you, considering you have a 30 second window to ban

NiceTryVi3 votes

PBE is very different from live, most people aren't trying to win, only to experience the champion. Things that faceroll in PBE are either going to marginally work or not work at all.

PlsTouchMeGently7 votes

Yes. It's not just a fear of you performing poorly; it's also a high likelihood that other people on our team will not understand all of his abilities and thus won't be able to play as well as possible with a Kayn on our team.

Drugoth26 votes

On the other side of that coin, it means the enemy team won't really know how to respond to him too, which could be beneficial.

PlsTouchMeGently8 votes

Not willing to take that risk that it swings in the other direction.

Shrek Luigi6 votes

It's not your call, unless you take the liberty of banning your teammates pick out of sheer saltiness.

PlsTouchMeGently14 votes

Lol, yes, it is my call. I have a ban and the ability to use it as I see fit.

Ralanr2 votes

In ranked I wouldn't hesitate.

Penns4 votes

Why tho? I just wanna play my new main :(

Ralanr3 votes

Because how can I truly know or trust you on this fact? Plus the PBE MMR is non existent, so you may not be used to playing them against equally skilled players.

Penns5 votes

Well Im pretty fast at learning new champs, usually 1- maybe 2 custom games and I can play them fine in ranked. But I guess I understand if people dont want to risk it.

Ralanr4 votes

Yeah, it's about putting yourself in other peoples shoes.

Ive played him since he came out on the pbe, many games. Would you still ban him even tho ove had 2 weeks of play time with him?

Yes, pbe matches are the equivalent of a normal game nobody takes them seriously.

EDIT: Worst logic? Yeah no,Your not gonna be fucking playing kayn in ranked because he just got released and I don't care if you want expierence on how to go 0/10 on a new champ in ranked get out of my face with that bullshit.

Cowseed6 votes

But if he had played him 2 weeks on normals you wouldn't ban him now, would you?

Birdie Sànders18 votes

How are we supposed to get ranked experience on him if you ban him then? Since normals don't count.

IcyPepper10 votes

So when ARE you allowed to play a champion in ranked for the first time?

Just Jangle1 votes

{quoted}

So when ARE you allowed to play a champion in ranked for the first time?

After at least 1 week of it being released.

Why you people take OP out of context, he is only talking about newly released champions.

IcyPepper9 votes

Why you people take OP out of context,

I wasn't responding to OP.

Maybe you ought not to take things out of context.

Ap Mid Burst10 votes

That is literally the worst logic i have ever seen in my life. If you don't count normals, then whenever you want to expand your champion pool you are "first picking" them in ranked.

YambrinZ17 votes

So as long as I play a champion I have no idea how to play BUT it isnt the newest champion, its okay? Logic doesnt seem to work here. To me it seems people just want an excuse for their loss. Id rather not ban Kayn and punish the other team for picking it.

hallfro6 votes

If we knew that you were first timing ANY champion in the game in ranked, we would ban it.

But when the champion hasn't even been out for 24 hours, we KNOW you are first timing the champion in ranked. So there's nothing to feel bad about! :)

Sraeg20133 votes

Some people don't need 50 games of training to learn how to play a champion.

38PingAndADream16 votes

Come on Riot its current year get it together

Jet Sett14 votes

If you're teammate is genuinely trying to win the game and you ban their pick intent you are the one in the wrong here. If you believe they're not going to be helpful you should have an open dialogue instead of banning the champ outright, you're just begging for your teammate to get upset and salty.

Karn Bishop13 votes

Why aren't new champions disabled for the first week? because it would be like denying people from learning how to swim for a week it delays the inevitable.

Lauchmelder3 votes

He means: "Why aren't new champions disabled from ranked for the first week, as there is a high chance this player hasn't even started to understand him/her."

Karn Bishop10 votes

i understand what he meant however the result would be the same, many play ranked exclusively and even those who mix and dabble recognize that playing a champion in ranked can be fundamentally different then in normals.

RookPusher10 votes

A week. If he got banned all week how are they going to be better a week later?

Raiyza7 votes

Normals brah.

Steelflame17 votes

To bad asswipes have him perma-banned in normal draft too.

People who ban new champs in normals are cancer (I almost think new/reworked champs for at least one week need to be unbannable in normal draft, but auto-banned in ranked)

YambrinZ4 votes

Whats the point of normal draft? Its literally the same game as ranked only with better players usually.

Steelflame5 votes

I enjoy the draft setting, but without the bullshit rage-o-holics of ranked. I also have a VERY high N-draft Elo, so I get far better games in N-draft usually than Ranked unless I put in a ton of games to pull my ranked Elo back up after not giving a damned to play it after the flex queue fiasco.

I generally only play the 10 ranked games a season needed to get my free "you hit gold" skin and after that I don't care enough to keep playing it vs just playing the far less cancerous normals.
