Hmmmmm there is a distinct lack of shotguns in Kayn's kneecaps. Well, urGOD wins

will this be how we judge new champs/reworks

Wait that isn't how you always judge champs/reworks?

Why pick Graves when Urgod is 6 times better?

PresidentPeewee2 votes
  1. He has 8 shotguns.

Then he's 7 times better.

Chembaron Yamada2 votes

Pretty sure he has six, not 8.

I don't understand why Camille got so much hate then. Knife legs is at least closer to shotgun knees than any of the other newly introduced champions. .__.

She brought knives to a shotgun fight

I hope riot sees this scraps kayn's release and change his lore so rhaast is now a darkin that inhabits the knees of warriors and fires out organic pellets.

Kayn is cool but Urgod is something that people have been looking forward to for like 3-4 seasons now.

Kayne? You mean Nightmare from Soul Calibur Gone Edgy?

An Enemy Sutando8 votes

You're meaning to imply Nightmare from SC wasn't edgy to begin with?

Naqel8 votes

Nightmare is the edge(literally, he is the avatar of the Soul Edge).

Siegfried was edgy in his possessed outfit/form.

Kayne is memetic levels of "ow the edge".

MooooooooreDakka14 votes

Kayn has a cool kit, edgy lore and appearances, and a unique mechanic that lets him change his kit mid-game, Urgod has shotgun knees. Who do you think wins?

Yeah, and it's kindaaaaa disappointing because I think Kayn is actually one of Riot's best releases in terms of character development and story-telling. Being able to blend narrative and gameplay in cool, interactive ways is one of the hallmarks of a great video game, and the unique interaction between Kayn's gameplay and story progression is something that I don't know could really be fulfilled in any game other than League. Up until now, it kinda felt like the story and lore, and the gameplay, were at odds with each other. This is the first time that Riot's released a champion where YOUR gameplay decisions, in game, affect the outcome of the NARRATIVE of a champion's life. It's absolutely amazing, and very, very creative.

I think people are getting overwhelmed by the 'edgelord'iness and memes. Not that they're not fun, but Kayn and Rhaast are great characters, and even better in the way their characters complete each other. I find it a bit disappointing that you eventually lose one to the other (but still very fitting and the best part of their kits, imo) because they have such a great, fun dynamic together. It's like the cop films of old. Their chemistry is off-the-charts.

I wish they'd spaced the releases out a bit, though I'm sure the developers at Riot get just as excited to show off the things they've made as anyone else, and both of these releases are soooo amazing, I'd have a hard time keeping the lid on one to give proper time to shine to the other.

Kayn? I can hear the dude talking angry Japanese just by looking at his splash. He is so bland and generic that probably at Riot they sat around a table with the deliberate intent of realizing the most stereotyped anime edgelord they could think of. And I don't even think I'm exaggerating .

Raahst is one-dimensional as fuck, he just babbles about killing and murdering all the time. It's laughable, actually. "How to be a big bad demon 101".

You're too easily impressed from the transformation in my opinion... It is a concept that popped up countless times during the years in fan concepts.

Coincidentally, Kayn actually LOOKS like a twelve year old concept of a champion.

Corriandr7 votes

I highly disagree. Kayne is pretty much the generic "edgy" shonen anime character. The narrative is bland and done a thousand times before (spoiler: It's Soul Edge + Naruto), the art is uninspired, the kit is lackluster except for a silly gimmick of running through walls and the only single interesting thing about it - getting to choose Nightmare or Sasuke (Bruiser or assassin)- is entirely overshadowed by the blandness of the characters. Generally, it is just over-all uninspired.

I believe he is a product of Riot's recent fascination of everything being from Ionia. With the exception of the tank rework and now Urgot, almost everything they have done or released recently has been from, or involved, Ionia in some form or fashion. Hell, even Diana has run to Ionia for some reason now (via Nami's new Vastaya lore). It is now beginning to show. They are literally pulling the single most boring, bland, stereotypical anime tropes and retreading ground they have already done to keep everything going Ionia. They've rung it dry; it is time to move on.

Mistlight2 votes

Didn't Nami's story happen near targon though? all those people angry at the moon or whatever?

AbiwonKenabi2 votes

Not all Vastaya are from Ionia though. Nami's people live in the ocean. Although I could be mistaken and Diana went to Ionia now, but Nami by no means resides in Ionia. That said, we don't know where Targon is in comparison to Ionia because we still don't have an updated map for some reason.

Rengar is another example of a Vastaya tribe that doesn't live in Ionia.

However, I do agree that too many new Champions are coming out of Ionia. At first I thought Kayn was from Noxus (which he technically is from) and then I listened to some of his quote interactions with Zed and I'm like "Ooooohh, he's a Shadow guy," which is a cool, unexplored space that could expand on Zed and Shen a little, but then I realized that we JUST got 2 Champions from Ionia. I'm not even sure Xayah and Rakan needed to be from Ionia, they don't look or sound like any other Ionian. And in the last 2 years, we've gotten Jhin (Ionian), ASol (Targon), Taliyah (Suriman, associated with Ionia), Kled (Noxus), Ivern (barely Freljord, associated with Ionia), Camille (Piltover), Xayah and Rakan (both Ionian), and now Kayn who's heavily associated with Ionia. I have to agree that it's a little too much, especially considering Ionia has as many Champions as the two major powers, Demacia and Noxus. Probably more at this point.

Who is Kayn?

Ralanr10 votes

Kayn didn't have much thunder after the first day.

Bright Turtle10 votes

A man edgier than his scythe and a shotgun knee capped meat grinder. This'll be a fun patch.

Quepha10 votes

I don't think their fanbases really overlap,

Urgot: people with taste Kayn: stupid teenagers

Eternal7917 votes

Yeah. I was looking forward to playing Kayn until they revealed the Urgod's second coming. Though being there's still two weeks till Urgot is released, I still would play Kayn... except my computer can't run games at the moment and I have no idea when it's gonna get fixed (could be after Urgot's release for all I know).

Sukishoo7 votes

Two reveals in one patch.

Eh not really. Patch 7.14 has wrapped up, so this is more of a pre-7.15 moment.

Dessem7 votes

Kayn also looks a bit boring to me; doesn't do much new outside his ult, and his fantasy (edgy shadow assassin) was already represented. Also what's with League men a) being bald, b) balding or c) overcompensating with very long hair?

Varus, Taric, now Kayn.

Meanwhile Urgod represents an amazing thematic with very unique gameplay beyond Kayn's rather generic-looking kit. No real oomph to his abilities.

CM Calgar6 votes

Kayn is a rip off of soulcalibur

Kuzja16 votes

While Kayn does possess a rather unique passive and abilities like everyone else, it is his certain style that would seem rather dull and cliche and uninteresting. Where as Urgot's new characteristics is far superior in terms of uniqueness and innovation. After all, Piltover, along with Zuan are both one city powered by innovation and forward thinking.

FuhrerRico6 votes

Kayne has no thunder though. Dumb champ and urgot rework is just sooooo much cooler.

Emerald Fang5 votes

Kayn is edgebringer yasuo on steroids.

Urgod is Zeus. What do you expect? He's a God.

deadlychuck5 votes

Another overloaded highly mobile AD fighter, who doubles as an assassin or tank.

Vs

Something new.

Can't imagine why he stole the spotlight

Mister Support12 votes

NO! It's not doubling as an assassin or tank. It's literally choosing assassin with no tankiness or bruiser with little mobility. The choice comes in if you want Kayn or Rhaast. Stop saying the shit about champions "doubling" as classes when it's a choice.

Friendly Ram4 votes

hey I already have urgot so i'm happy to get two new champs in a patch.

Catastrophic4 votes

Cause kayn sucks and new urgot is the saviour of mankind

Dreadlocks4 votes

Maybe this is a good way for riot to open up other bans xD

JESUSSAYSNO4 votes

Kayne will probably see higher play, edgy pretty boys tend to be more appealing. I think Urgot is a better champion though. Kayne doesnt even have a passive until midgame.

SpaghettiVase3 votes

I think it has to do more with the long wait for the Urgot rework yet Kayn kinda came out of nowhere. That being said me and my best friend are split, they are hyped for Kayn since she plays jungle and I'm hyped for urgot since i play toplane juggernauts.
