Why Riot?

You present the player with two rewards within the level 40 glorious capsule. ~2000 Blue Essence and an Emote.

Then ask players to choose between keeping the awarded Blue Essence or spending it completely + 500 more out of their own pocket on unlocking the other included reward?

Why not just grant access to the emote as you attain it out of the capsule??

Players can't even take a reward out of a lootbox for granted anymore. Players must unlock the lootbox to gain access to the ability to unlock the reward within the lootbox. Lootboxception!

Are we at least allowed to disenchant it? I'd guess yes, but I'm asking anyways.

That would mean the opportunity to get a unique emote would disappear forever, it would make more sense for the emote 'shard' to remain in your loot until you want it.

No you can not disenchant it. The only option is to unlock it with 2500 BE other than there is no interaction.

eventually you will run out of things to spend BE on.. this is what those emotes are for.. plus do you really want a level 40 emote.. like grats you gained 10 levels.. pretty much everyone will or has... now high level emotes are worth it IMO cause then new people cant catch you as easy..

Fuck that, for it to really matter, they'd have to add the past playtime of veteran players, just like the Blizzard/HotS did when they changed to the level-up-reward system ...before rito implemented a terrible copy of it. Meanwhile they'll claim this new reward system is directed mainly at veteran players when pretty much all you get from it is..... That's right, blue essence that every veteran player already pukes with.

10/10 system for veteran players, what a joke.

No, it doesn't. People complained for years that there was pretty much nothing to spend IP on once you had all the champions and runes you wanted and that there were few ways to express that you were dedicated to the game for an extended period of time. Now players have levels that express how much you have played League and emotes that you can choose to buy with spare BE if you don't have more champions you want to buy.

Note also that a major complaint about emotes was that they were only available for RP with none you could buy with IP/BE.

Just because it doesn't feel odd to you doesn't mean no one thinks it feels odd. Take a look around the boards, there are plenty who are a little confused by some of Riot's decisions lately, particularly involving BE.

That doesn't mean there is anything wrong with it, as you said there are reasons to make it a BE sink.

The fact that it does so even if it mathematically is better proves that there is a problem and it needs tweaking. Feeling less good than before could be attributed to getting too much for nothing in seasons past. Idk, but I'm still not really seeing all the complaining. Like this game is completely free. Both literally and figuratively. No one really has to do anything, including play the game. Don't have to have skins, chromas, emotes, etc. It's there if you want to try and "work towards them" sure, but none of these things are necessities and I think because they are there and seen many people are convinced they have to have them. My fiancé has never played 1 minute of LoL or my mother or my father and there life is none the wiser for it.

So yea perhaps it does "suck" this new BE and whatnot, but look and see why you feel you deserve any of this. League is essentially a shell with DLC making up like 50%+ of the game. All of which could theoretically cost nothing to obtain. Could be a generational thing or just what games you grew up playing, but I am sensing a lot of entitlement and unfair expectations from a large number of the fanbase.

Hahah I didn't say gamer entitlement though. It's just Riot literally owes us nothing. Like...legitimately and it seems because they have been waaaay generous at one point leads people to expect them to forever be that way. I'm sure the whole read of the ToS says something about this. But i'll give a personal account outside of gaming as an example.

Living in a condo with my fiancé for the past 10 months. Toilet drain issues (older condo and bathroom downstairs is shared with neighbors along same wall) and a clogged sink faucet. Call up the landlord to let him know. Dude chews us out and is upset we are bothering him. We're confused as to why this is an issue (prior apts/houses the landlords want to know every minute detal). We reread our lease (which was our fault for not fine tooth combing through it the first time) actually tells us not to contact the landlord for any issues.

TL;dr we signed up to live in a place to pay some guy an undisclosed amount of money to literally just allow us to live there. Any issues come up we cover them ourselves even though he owns the condo unit and restricts us from really doing much of anything to his unit. Now that we understand tha we wont ever be calling him again. We aren't supposed to. How does this relate to the current BE issue. Well...for one...LoL has bearing on my well-being and the other is part of my livelihood so that's an issue all on its own, but just to compare apples to apples...expectations versus reality. That's the point I'm getting across.

Any [human led] organization is going to have issues and come up short. Like that's just life. I don't know what to say beyond that. I personally see no real issue with this BE nonsense. My issue is more or less with the existence of Riot games but I digress.

Now I'm not saying to just give everything or anything away but increasing the time it takes to get champs after virtually 7 seasons of the same system is bullshit... I mean this company is in no way hurting for money and actually quite the opposite... I mean just look at the Ashe skin they sold for worlds which gained 2 million for charity... Id say that's pretty roughly the average they make per skin so forcing us to put more time into the game or pay for champs is retarded because id much rather spend that money on skins as would everyone else that isn't rich

Right, so assuming they have multiple business models and are implementing them as the current cause and demand changes Riot has accounted for the users they will lose because of what they are doing and see that it is still worth it. While it make take you longer to get the same thing you used to get...some see that as a plus. Games that have single player story of 8 or less hours versus games that have a story of 50+ hours is something that used to drastically affect how a game was perceived. So I realize this is a MOBA so it's not a direct correlation, but like...I guess I always come back to the idea that you honestly don't have to play the game.

Which is where the "they don't owe you anything" phrase comes from. Now Capcom has released a highly propular franchise title essentially incomplete(which they admitted and tried to justify) and boy did it hurt them for awhile. Like...that game cost 60 bucks!? Those people were owed "something". But as LoL isn't our job and we aren't "on the clock" nothing is owed to us for spending hours upon hours on the game. shrugs

The only thing i'd spend 2500 dollars on is a montly rent in downtown Seattle or the down payment for an engagement ring. I couldn't imagine spending 2500 on a single game...unless it was:

Cost nothing to obtain.... If by nothing you mean hundreds of hours of your life just to unlock a champ.... Previously I could get a 6300 champ in 7-8 days at max and now its gonna take around 2 fucking weeks to get that same champ.... The only time this system is worth it now is if you happen to get a champion shard that you don't have but that's pretty unlikely considering that they only give 1350 and less champs the majority of the time.... There is times that I would completely agree with your argument where it is free but the system was perfect before... Now if I'm 10 be short of getting a champ I want instead of playing 1 game I have to spend a day or more leveling up just to get 810 be the majority of the time

If they wanted this to be how it worked, i.e. purchasing the emote, they should just have it in the store and say "unlocks for purchase at level 40". So much of the issue here is literally how it is presented. It looks like it is coming from an unlocked chest and it should be yours right away - but what it really is, is access to purchase something.

Uhhhm its not a reward if you have to pay for it imo... REwards are usually given for free when you achieve something like first place... You don't see the Olympics saying heres the gold medal but first we have to dock 50% of your winnings so that you may keep and use this medal.... I'm glad I'm not the only one who has experienced this.

I was honestly expecting some cool swagger at 40. I guess you could put the emote/border thing as cool but I am not at all a proponent for emotes. I was also expecting to see more orange essence content as I levelled up. The orange essence nerf alluded to the idea that, "You're definitely going to get more skins shards so we're lowering the disenchant value."

I also thank like Hextech loot crates are HIGHLY undervalued knowing they contain champ shards. Their value is even more floored knowing that the orange essence disenchant rates have been nerfed.

Got mine today and have to say how disappointing it is. Sure I got 2.1k BE, but the levels are also requiring more and more EXP as we climb. And the next chest could again give me 900 BE... At least if the emote was nice, but it is an extremely bizarrely designed object... like some sort of Mayan bin/table???

Seriously, I have no idea why they are persisting with this system. Back in diablo 2 (or whatever similar game you're familiar with), levels would require more experience as you progressed, but you ALSO got stronger, so you could face harder enemies, etc.

This level progression system makes no sense in this system unless riot is admitting they are more interested in forcing players to pay to buy champs... It is not player-centric at all. While the old IP system was slow, this new system feels terrible. I have 60 or so champs (last I checked), and the 20% discount doesn't do me any good, if I can never get the shard that I need. Luckily, they capped the level climb at 50 (instead of 150 like they planned), but still, it is not enough.

I mean DOTA gives you all the champs right off the bat. Heroes of the storm gives you gold per game, but also gives out tons of chests which give you cosmetics that unlock instantly, with the chance of unlocking champs instantly... I mean, League of Legends has really dropped the ball here by somehow choosing a less attractive option to what they had before.

People Need to stop leveling or even playing untill they fix the blue essence update.

If you guys want to get screwed over by the leveling reward system by all means do it. However untill then i recommend to just hold on tight, changes might be coming soon.
