Missions should only apply to normals
I don't want to be in a ranked game where my teammates are stalling an early lead hunting for kills to reach their "10 kills/assists in two games" mission

Honestly thats fair. Ranked shouldnt be influenced by quests like that, and I dont even play ranked.

We already have two similar systems that could already be affecting Ranked play by a small extent: Champion Mastery and Hextech Crafting. In Champion Mastery, players might not want to play already mastered Champions or Champions that they already have all the Mastery Tokens for for the current level because they want to progress in Mastery. This could cause players to play Champions they're worse at. With Hextech Crafting, players might simply want to not play Champions they already got Hextech Chests on if they have a Hextech Chest available. EDIT: Additionally, they might try to do weird stuff like farm a ton or play Champions in off-roles to get S ranks.
I'm curious, do you support these systems as well?
The two systems are not similar enough. Since missions make you do very specific things while champion mastery only requires of you to do your best with a certain champion. You don't decide it's a good idea to first time a champion in ranked for and S rank, since it's harder to get an S rank in ranked overall.

I'm just saying that they both affect Ranked play. Missions might affect it more but they both still have an effect.
Ussually its better to end a game faster for a better grade score
You probably don't decide to do your Missions in Ranked either, for the exact same reason... From this point of view, the two systems are very similar.
Those two don't really effect ranked. Any smidge you can argue that playing your second(or tenth)-best pony is inhibiting your playing, you can also claim it broadens your gameplay experience, and makes you a better overall player. I can't say so much about those champion-cenetered missions.

It broadens your gameplay experience overall, but for the duration of the ranked match, you will be playing on a Champion you have less experience on. How much less experience - that is up to the player. Some player might his fourth best Champion, and another might play a mastery 1 Champion to get Mastery or a Hextech Chest. I know it's unlikely, I'm just saying that because the system exists, there is encouragement (however minor it may be) to play for alternative rewards instead of for the win. It most certainly could affect ranked. You're assuming that players are going to play their better Champions, which will be the case most of the time, but because of the system, they have something that could be pushing them off the goal of winning. A player could go first time Azir in Ranked because she thought he was a counterpick to the enemy laner, or she could go first time Azir in Ranked because she wanted a Chest on Azir. You see?
Lastly, you did not address my point about Grades and Hextech Chests. Grades generally align with winning actions, but sometimes players do stuff that is counterproductive to winning because they want a high grade. They'll farm side lanes and not group, they'll steal kills, they'll ward in inopportune areas, they'll never take risks to avoid dying, and more. Whatever it is they're doing, they're focusing on doing that and not on focusing on doing what is right for the team.
Wait a second. 10 kills/assists doesn't sound like much. Any champion can get at least that, one way or another. These quests wouldn't force people to get more aggressive, it would encourage them to be more engaged in the game in my opinion.
Depends on what the missions are. If its 10 kills or assists, then yeah - thats not too bad.
But if it gets to something like what we see in Heroes ("5 wins playing an Assassin") you can see how getting the Mission might clash with your best chances of winning.
There's no ''5 wins playing an Assasin tho.''
It's either play 3 games as put role here or win 3 games or play 8 games or play 2 games as characters from insert franchise here.
Sorry, I havent played HoTS in a while. But those suggestions would be even worse! "Play 3 games as a Jungler" even if you main ADC. "Play 2 games with champions from Ionia." Again, not saying that missions are bad, but depending on how it rolls out it might be a good idea to only apply to normals.
there should be a mission DEDICATED to adc mains that states: Help your team end the game instead of afk farming bot lane after you've been given a lead until everyone is equal in gold and you get outskilled and ultimately lose the game.
Bad day?
You can't have a good day when you play league, There will be always that one match where something retarded happens that boils your blood.
One match?
At LEAST one moment per match.
I thought the topic title said Minions.
I second this.
i 4th this

Some missions should be applied to ranked IMO. Win 10 ranked games in a row.
^
Good luck doing that when if you won 2 games in a row in ranked you're almost guaranteed to get terrible people next game.
I have win streaks of 40 in ranked.
So what's it like being a challenger smurf playing in bronze?
Never been in challenger. I started in S2, perma B5, elo hell. Literally had 200+ more losses than wins.
I decided to download a few Lol apps on my android (even bought a few), read all the updates in full detail, view build guides, and thoroughly check out each champion wiki.
Over the next 350 - 400 games, I reached G5.
On average I'd only take a loss once every 15 games or so.
My original account was Talon Wukong. Unfortunately, when I was on my way to reaching plat, RIOT implemented new punishment system and I was permabanned.
I literally had over 50 chat restrictions and about 6 suspensions on that account. Next thing I know, I have a clean slate, then chat... 7-day suspension... 14 day suspension... permaban.
2nd account was Fizz Wukong, floated around P1 - D4 all S5 then got permabanned.
Now I just play normals, have fun and don't even focus on winning. Been on this asking since early S6, no reports made against and I'm apart of the Beta 😊

######you mean PBE and not league beta.. right?
And yes, the PBETAE lol
Eh? I've won 10 in a row a couple of times.
I guess I am god. Bow before your Silver IV master.
That quest better give you an ultimate skin like damn
And for those of us that play 90% ranked? Only playing blinds/unranked draft when others invite us to it? Or those that play RGM, ARAM, ranked?
Then stop.
I can see "normals only" missions extending to RGM/ARAM/TT as well (with some adjustments based on average stats from the map), but I don't think it should extend to ranked.
By playing ranked, you're implicitly agreeing that your goal is to win. Having side missions that may detract from the main goal is going to damage the integrity of Ranked queues. That said, if the mission does not detract from winning (say, by simply rewarding wins), then those missions should be allowed.
I think all missions need to have a win condition attached to them. So, if one of them is to "Play Ekko" and get free stuff, well that's great, but you should also have to WIN the game.
And absolutely they should be left out of ranked.
I don't even play LoL anymore and I agree to this. Just the thought of that happening in a promos is tilting me right now.
This is a very valid complaint. Ranked doesn't need more trolling than it has. Upvoted.
Wait why the actual fuck is that a mission? Quests in HotS are always related to quantities, like play ____ role/class 2/3 games. These aren't things that change your in-game behavior, just giving you a shortterm quest to try a role. Low kill games happen in pro play somewhat reguarly. If there were kill based marks for a quest I'd want it to be some long-term achievement like "Get 1,000,000 kills", not some daily quest that promotes throwing.
They answer this question in here.
Mostly principle 2: Missions challenge your skill, not your patience.
also quests in hots are garbage. Why the hell should i play what i do not want? I skipped everything the few games i played into it and went full Kael'Thas
Also HotS is braindead.
I don't like hots, but to say it is braindead is just a bashing.
That's how I felt playing it ranked and normal.
"Sweet, I won that match by a mile." 20 minutes later "A MOBA where I always win? This is horrible!"
consider you played hots after playing a while LoL. This puts you mile ahead in terms of skill with pretty much most of the public that HotS caters. A public that is not composed by casuals, mind me, but of people that did not like prior MOBA experiences and wanted to try hots because, differently from many other MOBAs, it actually offers something different while spicing it up with IP that a lot of people have fonding on.
My problem with hotS is that the abilities don't feel satisfying. It just doesn't feel like your abilities actually impact the game.
I guess it largely depends, i did not play it that much but i remember some abilities were reeeeally generic, while others were extremely particular.
For example, mages to me look all the same butGul'Dan can siege buildings from distance with the rain of chaos ( it was called like that?) and Kael'Thas has the phoenix that can deny big portions of the map, and so on. But those are all ultimates, i don't remember specific base spells that were really moldbreaking.
From my understanding (mostly from hero spotlight than actually playing, rip my low end computer), the spells are fairly generic at the start, but talents can make them very different.
There are also a ton of specialists with completely unique playstyles.
Yup, but remember that talents are there because they have no items. Some talents are reeealy wacky cool others are just amped power that compares somehow to an item ( not exactly because an item empowers everything and a talent only selected something, but the point is there).
Still, it's an interesting approach that i liked on paper. More straightforward, still gives choices, and less power going off control ahemapmaokaiahem

Mostly principle 2: Missions challenge your skill, not your patience.
I guess its a fair priority but part of skill is teamwide decision making. Backdooring to win through smart macro play where 4 buy time against 5 while one pushes won't give you kill credit and this game will prob give you a C+ or some shit score but it will secure the game in a vital moment and it is a display of skill.
Promoting your damage dealers to dive and be flashy is already bad, the scoring system for example is horny for KDA. It won't recognize when you're the one who dies to win a fight 1-5 to aggressively cc to deter someone from killing an ally. We don't need more incentive to be a selfish show-off than there already is. Daily missions are a good feature when handled responsibly, we aren't playing CoD. Victory is determined through a variety of means and the missions should reflect that. If they won't disabling them in Ranked should be a measure they take to prevent toxic behavior... though given the weird 10 bans system is hitting Ranked too I won't be surprised if these criticisms are ignored.
And by the way in HotS missions that are affected by your pick always autocomplete in raked. So if you have a quest for playing 3 games as an assassin and a quest to play 2 games as a Warcraft hero they will make progress with any hero.
As someone who saw first hand what adding some of the Battleground achievements to WoW did, this is a bad idea. You do not want things that alter the way people play the game, because people who are trying to achieve them will get groups and manipulate games to do it.
I disagree, many missions involving accomplishing something in game require you to win the game and these missions are supposed to reinforce good gameplay, not create secondary objectives. The complaint shouldn't be to limit missions to normals, it should be to change a mission to better achieve reinforcing good gameplay. By stating the goal of the mission is to win the game with 10 kills/ assists, this makes it so that the goal of going for kills/assists should be to help your team win. Might cause a top laner to pick a teamfighting character like galio instead of his tryndamere main to do 2 birds with one stone. While missions would be easier in normals for many ranked players, the option is there, and is additive to gaining rank, not a seperate task that doesn't take into account winning or losing. As long as missions don't hinder the idea that the goal of ranked is to win, missions are fine. Many ranked players dont play normals anymore because its a less serious environment to them, if missions were only normal, then u force ranked players to play normal for rewards, or they ignore it. Missions for ranked is completely acceptable and the fear of their effects is basically the same fear already existing, the fear of someone throwing. But you will run into that no matter what, whether tilt or flame or some other reason. I personally believe missions will not affect ranked negatively.
