If i cant, why can riot?

If i am silver and my friend is platinum we cant queue up together rank, well how come i get platinum players in my game then, if im silver? I know why it happens, MMR higher, but how does this seem okay? If im silver and am against platinums and have only 1 platinum on my team, id rather be playing with my platinum friend rather than getting some random dude who is supposed to carry the game. If im silver id rather face bronzes, silvers, and golds. Im trying to get to gold so id rather face a lot more gold players, but why platinum if im not going to go from silver 1 to platinum 5. I should only have to face platinums once i make it to gold, not when im still trying to get to gold.

If you're playing against plats, its because your mmr is around that level. This is a good thing. It means that your level of play is much higher than your rank. Keep your head up and push through it. Odds are if your mmr is 2 ranks higher than yours, there's a good chance you might jump a division.

Thanks buddy. Ive been playing since season 4, but this is the first year i actually want to try and climb as far as i can get in ranked this year

Not exactly. it COULD just mean that he's silver 1 duoing with a gold 1, and he's against a plat5 duoing with a gold 5

In that situation, his MMR isnt particularly high, but he could still be matched against the plat, because those two MMR merges will come out to be very near the same. (Which is why MMR averaging SUCKS)

So I agree with his original premise:

If it isnt legit to allow plats on HIS team, then no way it should be legit to match him AGAINST plats. The tier block should be applied both ways. Plats should never faced silvers in ranked.

Theoretically you could have a Challenger duoing with a Master, a Master Duoing with a Diamond, a Diamond duoing with a Plat, a Plat duoing with a Gold, and a Gold duoing with a Silver.

Now suddenly you have a Silver in the same game as a Challenger. Yeah, it's busted.

im pretty sure rito removed duo queue function for challenger tier players in solo queue.

and it's not as busted for that to happen in flex a.k.a. troll queue

While this would've been possible last season, you can no longer duo in diamond with people that are 2 or more divisions away from each other.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm almost certain Diamond V can only duo with Plats/Diamond IV, Diamond IV can only duo with Diamond V and III, and so on. (It might only be the high ranks of diamond)

Also, there is no case where the MMR of a challenger's should match that with a silver's, regardless of chains such as this. The MMR is supposed to average out to create as even of a matchup as possible, and even when there are people from different tiers, LP loss is adjusted. While I don't think facing a Plat III or above would be okay if you are say, Silver I (100 LP), I wouldn't say facing a one or two Plat 5s with all Gold III on your team and you being Silver 1 would be a busted system.

Then again, I never really had trouble going through the lower tiers, so I may have a biased opinion; take that as you will.

This is a good thing. It means that your level of play is much higher than your rank.

That doesn't seem like a good thing.

But the thing is you need to push through it to climb, when you shouldn't. You should be stomping on the other people that are below your "actual rank" with an exceedingly high winrate, rather than being paired with other high elo people which will lower your winrate, and keep you at a elo that's not your "actual rank."

It just extends the grinding.

Silverjust1 votes

this only applies to promos (and this is really stupid)

when you have a high mmr, but a 50% winrate because of matchmaking, you will still climb. This is bacause you win more LP for a win than loose LP for a loss

Blåbæret1 votes

No lol. I've had plats, even a diamond Fiora at some point, in my games. My MMR at that point was far below gold lol.

It's actually because hes playing Flex Twisted Treeline. Solo rank has no bearing just as Flex 5v5 doesn't. We play Flex and there are Diamonds on our team and against us. However, their flex rank is equal.

its more likely his mmr is around low gold and so is that plat 5 player.....

One thing I learned last season is don't look at player ranks. Play the game the best you can because honestly the way this system works shit gets real messy. I used to freak out in silver because one plat player was supposedly in game. Then you realize there is a reason your matched with them. Its not until almost everyone in a game is a certain level before you actually see a difference in game play. Hell I have more trouble playing in stupid ass silver 2 than in mid gold because unlike mid gold where players are low plat to low gold my teammates could be anywhere from mid gold to silver 5. Which really means from decent at the game to could be completely new and has no idea wtf their doing. And honestly.... it really sucks ass. When you have jungle Evelynn you think "o sweet someone who plays eve and knows how to apply early pressure" but quickly realize o wait..... there in their placement matches and are completely new to the game just afk farming lanes and feeding the enemy. Its at that moment you realize what a joke this system is.

Only option? Try to improve and put your head in the sand and ignore the hundreds of unevenly matched games you play waiting for that moment to play a 5v5 with people who see the game the same way you do. Sadly that is a very rare thing these days it seems.

this means i should go diamond after a victory on a ranked game... i only get diamonds/platinums on my games

One thing to keep in mind is the system matches you based off MMR because MMR is supposedly the more accurate representation of your skill.

Rank supposedly is an achievement, but not an accurate representation (compared to MMR) of skill.

Thus, there are Silver players with Plat MMR, and Plat players with Silver MMR.

Except that's not the case. Maybe gold players with silver mmr sure, but a plat player with silver mmr would demote really quickly.

Either cases you mentioned didn't have a player with 1+ league difference in MMR. It can't happen downwards because MMR doesn't decay, only LP does, far as we know. So you could theoretically have a diamond player with diamond mmr be gold 1, but they'd have diamond mmr. They wouldn't play with golds. You aren't matched based off your LP, you're matched based off your MMR.

because ranked is a grindfest designed to make you play more, getting the rank you deserve is a side effect

lol exactly. funny that this is down voted.

just goes to show you how people eat up their system and don't even realize it

When i won 10 provisionals and they dropped me from plat 2 to silver 3 i realized how bogus this system was and quit climbing. Yeah, i could get back to where i was, not gonna waste my time and stress over it though.

Oh please. You did not win 10 provisionals and land silver 3 if you were legitimately plat 2 at the time of the reset. Your mmr was garbage, and when you didn't win all 10 you didn't get as high as you would have otherwise.

The ranked system is fine. It's only a grind if you are where you belong on the ladder and maintain a barely positive winrate.

Lux Is Mai Waifu1 votes

I would probably agree with you if promos didn't exist, they're a massive grind enhancer

Sp33d Zer03 votes

I mean, if you play against plats in ranked, either their mmr is TANKED and they aren't very good, so they are around your level, or you yourself have a much higher MMR than you should and will climb rapidly.

Or you could be like me last week and have a 400 MMR deficit with the enemy having 5 mid-high diamond players while you have unranked and plats. ¯\(ツ)/¯

Granted, I have been on both sides of that, and that was a normal, not a ranked game. Lol, normal games in 2k17

ˉˉˉˉˉˉ3 votes

I know it's bullshit, I'd much rather have the whole ranks thing removed since it's useless, and instead just have our MMR be visible. So not only are we matched and competing for MMR, but we also know exactly what it is and where it stands at all times.

The ranks don't mean anything if Silvers can be matched with Plats.

420 grams2 votes

Because that would give even odds to both sides and could break their "everyone gets an exactly 50% win rate" strategy for match making

Hige2 votes

rank is no skill measurement, in fact rank is more of a consistency measure, if you play well and you play well consistently you will rise if you play well occasionally you will rise slowly if you play well once every blue moon you'll sink

thing for league is that it's ever changing, I was platinum at some point and currently I'm silver, it can happen in one patch and not over seasons though, your main gets nerfed or something else becomes counter of your playstyle, then you'll start sinking

This is the case of Platinum players who play against silvers, there's two common cases:

1.- literally boosted players who paid and can't keep their rank up, they start in probably Diamond 5 and start loosing HARD, the amount of game they lose is less then the amount of MMR they lose though because you CAN lose one match and lose 5 MMR or 50 MMR depending on your overall performance

2.- people who rose at one point (like me) and who aren't well versed on the new meta and are still trying to adapt to the changes (a lot of ADC mains were affected by this)
