league is unrewarding to positive players

There has always been toxic players who just flame and intentionally feed, and they eventually get punished, though never in a timely manner which could actually help decrease the chances of the being toxic again afterwards. But back to my main point, riot created the honor system as a way to help fight being toxic, but the honor system is literally useless. Currently the only benefits of being a positive player is having a slightly higher chance of winning your current game. One idea could be players who got a certain amount of honors at the end of the month get a free hextech key or chest, and players who have been punished for being toxic miss reaping the rewards for being a positive player.

Do you have an idea for encouraging, and rewarding positive player behavior? if so comment it down below Either way its been way to long since riot has done ANYTHING meaningful for encouraging positive player behavior

People love cosmetics skins have proven this. The ribbons just aren't cool enough of a reward to make people want to get them. Plus how much you need to get them is vague and not really explained. Add to that that most people just leave the game without honoring and its just a broken system with piss poor rewards. The entire honor system needs overhauled with a seriously cool cosmetic incentive. Until then it will not entice anyone.

I don't think players shouldn't be rewarded for acting the way they should. It's like giving a child a dollar for every time they clean their room. They grow up to expect it, but really, it's something they should be doing on their own.

Maybe tiers of "honor-ability" that get some sort of bonus, such as:

  1. IP bonus
  2. Increase rate of key drops
  3. Boost your champion score (like being in a multi-player queue does) --> easier chests
  4. Staying on the highest tier for X months gets you something worth RP, (500RP, mystery skin, etc.)

Their could be three tiers: the lowest getting the first bonus only, middle tier gets the first and second, highest tier gets the first three and the potential for the fourth.

you should not be rewarding positive players, you should be MUCH more heavily punishing bad ones. if you don't murder someone you don't deserve an award. and i certainly don't want a participation trophy. but on the other hand but on the other hand someone shouldn't have to murder 70 people before they get in trouble, especially since we have chat logs of people saying they are inting because they don't care. now that is something that makes me want to quit league.

Riot already rewarded positive behaviour in the past (but yes I know this should be more like a continuous process)

  • they gifted skins to positive players in season 4 or season 5
  • they made and gifted a special icon for positive players
  • season rewards are only eligible for positive players
  • hextech is only eligible by positive players
  • etc (maybe I forgot something; playing since preseason 4)

Despite this it should be a naturalness (don´t know if natural is the right word; english isn´t my mother language) that players behave positive without any reward. It´s like wanting a reward for behaving normal in public or helping some stranger which wants to know the way/ etc. .

Hextech loot is the reward according to Riot.

Chaosedge2/13/2017, 11:02:13 PM4 votes

I would agree. If you reward plays for their positivity, they'll keep being positive to reap more rewards, and eventually people will just do it naturally. It's a slow and sure way to get rid of negativity. The rewards would be simple but very good feeling. Like small RP gifts, a special skin line like say... "Paragon Warwick", the skin paints your character as a guardian of virtue and such. Another good reward would be small rewards like summoner icons, ward skins, but I really like the skin line idea. Along with higher drop rates on keyfragments.

Well, unpunished players do get hextech rewards.

Honor system is in progress of being merged with Tribunal 2.0, but it won't be released until waaaayyy down the road. Earliest you can expect it would be after the new client is fully functional, but I'm guessing they'll release other features first before Tribunal 2.0.

Omg, you do not need rewards to be a decent human being. You get free things all the time, and you don't lose your account. Why does everyone who isn't an asshole feel entitled to more????

NekoniClaws2/13/2017, 2:05:44 PM3 votes

Honestly, if someone's going out of their way to provide a better gameplay experience for their entire team, (whether it comes naturally or not) Those are the players you want to keep in your game. Bribery is a fantastic method.

I think the occasional free icon or free ward skin would be enough~ Maybe free skins for the big milestones

Skorch2/13/2017, 2:31:50 PM3 votes

To be fair you shouldnt need a reward for not being an asshole. You should not be an asshole. However i do enjoy stuff so...

I do agree that it's a good idea to encourage positive behaviors, and would like to see something done about it, but I'd also like to point out that we shouldn't be expecting or demanding riot to do so, and accuse them when they aren't - reason being that positive behaviors are granted. They're like, not swearing in public or obeying the laws, they're things that are normally expected from us and not something outstanding to deserve praise.

However, with our player base's state, it is undeniable that we may need a hand on this matter.

Positive players win more.

(Or maybe it's players who win more are positive. Not sure which)

Flemman2/13/2017, 7:57:46 PM2 votes

Despise not having the free skin this season (think they do it at the start of both season 5 and 6), I feel like it's not necessary if it's power budget put elsewhere on the game.

For exemple, to reward player who don't play 5v5 when there is inbalanced stuff (for 7.3 it's lethality ;p) but still play the game on other mode being able to earn token their would be a great start. Not getting fully reward for achieving something, only because you don't play the main mode, make you kinda feel like unwanted player despise the fact you actually play a lot

Ada Wong2/14/2017, 6:06:53 AM2 votes

Honestly I don't care about being rewarded for positive play or not...

What would be rewarding enough is getting matches with halfway decent people who have brains...

I am serious, the last two days have been awful getting matches with griefers, junglers flat out trolling lane, players not playing assigned role trolling, and even when I did try to do lane swap with them when they asked the proceeded to follow me around and troll harder making game play some of the worst experiences...

YerroFever2/13/2017, 5:02:38 AM2 votes

There have been rewards post season for not having been punished by Riot. There crafting system is only for people who aren't punished as well.

It would be nice to get more rewards but it can't be game changing otherwise it wouldn't be fair.

Storytime.

There's a few people who are regular players in my games from day to day. Due to restrictions on what I can and cannot say, I cannot name them by user name but suffice to say, several have names that indicate the exact behavior they do in the game. These people have been doing it for months, trolling and other such stuff and made it perfectly clear in name, in chat, and any other way imaginable that they were there to disrupt and ruin a game. Reporting them time and time again seems to do nothing.

I agree that being a positive player right now means almost nothing. However, I'd like to see a reward instituted that matches people of high honor with others of high honor, so that I do not have to get people who think its hilarious to go feed 20 times in 25 minutes as partners in my games. Rather than Prisoner's Island as they mentioned a while back, how about matching positivity with positivity so I could, you know, go win games with people who want to play and win as well? Would be nice.

Challenger Ahri2/13/2017, 11:03:38 PM2 votes

Again, you should not be rewarded for not being an ass on a video game.

Man0nFire2/14/2017, 3:09:49 AM2 votes

I honestly don't know. Ranked in this game makes me pour out every last bit of ire and hatred for humanity in me. It might be nice to have something to convince me to not type it all out.

In another MOBA I played. Players who received many down votes and reports for ruining peoples games or being dicks would be pair together under a "karma system". So not only could a ban be inevitable, but they would basically heard all the toxic shits together.

Out of curiosity I made an account and left a few games during the draft (afking a few games would count for being a toxic a-hole). Let me tell you, those games were absolute hell compared to what I played on my main account.

People who played well and recieved many up votes would be paired together and people that were dicks got down votes and cast aside with the rest of the dicks.

The system wasn't perfect and there was a big gray area in the middle. It was hard to get great karma, and once you lost it it was hard to get back, but it actively encouraged good behaviour becuase the matchmaker actually took into account karma rating when finding games (ie if you had great karma you could not under any circumstances be matched with the bottom percentile).

Ofc this game also had a upvote/down vote system that was directly integrated to the victory/defeat screen and not a small afterthought on the post game scoreboard.

Perfect? Nah. Better? Not necessarily. But the idea of your behaviour effecting your matchmaker is about the only thing that does fix behaviour. If you made people suffer more than just a ban for being dicks and rewarded those who behaved and received praise, Id bet match quality would take an exponential leap in about a month.

Troll for Trump2/13/2017, 10:15:02 PM1 votes

League is also too harsh on "negative" behavior. As the punishment range is too broad.

SennaFirstPick2/13/2017, 1:15:04 PM1 votes

yeah, this should apply to life too. i don't kill people, why can't i have something for not doing it? i pay taxes, why doesn't anyone give me something in exchange? oh wait, i get rewarded by not going to jail.

crazy how nature do that
