Playing champions in ranked should be tied to mastery

Now hear me out before you spam downvote, the ability to play a champion in ranked should be tied to champion mastery.

How many times has a brand new champion come out only for that champion to flood ranked and 8 out of 10 times feed and ruin your game?

How many times do you get that "first time X" guy who does terribly even if he gets a ton of help from the jungler, just because he doesn't know how to play the champion?

I think that, in order to play a champion in ranked, you should at least need that champion to mastery 4, maybe even 5, That way you will at least have a decent idea how to play that champion, a decent understanding of the mechanics, and a pretty good idea how to build them.

That would make the barrier of entry way too huge for the ranked Qs. You would literally have to have 16 champions at said mastery to guaranty you even have a champion you can use. (Same reason you need 16 champs to even play ranked)

That would be miss representing players who held mastery of these champs, well before the mastery system came out, and it wouldn't represent the people who play other modes because the Mastery system hasn't been implemented for ARAM or TT yet.

While I see your point I personally have to disagree. I'm lv 28 and I already have1 mastery 6 champion, 3 mastery 5 champions and about 20 mastery 3/4 champions.

well before the mastery system came out,

who the hell didn't get level 5 mastery on 16 champions yet? this mastery system is so easy

We're not really trying for it. The ONLY champion I've actually made any effort to get mastery on is Lulu, and even there I haven't put much time into it.

Doesn't help that thousands of my games were played before the mastery system came out.

This would solve lots of problems but not sure how people would react to it.

Players trying to get into Ranked would have to jump through a lot of hoops if this happened. Now they not only have to reach level 30 and have at least 16 champs to play, they have to have 16 champs at X mastery level too. Yes, it would accomplish the goal of keeping inexperienced players off of champions they don't understand yet, but it would also keep many inexperienced players out of the game entirely.

With this system, restricting Ranked to champions with mastery level 3 or higher would even keep me out; I have 3 champs at level 4, and Lulu at level 6. So even though I have been playing League for 5 years, own every single champion, and in most cases am at least vaguely competent, I'd be locked out of Ranked completely.

Do you see the flaw with this yet?

Getting mastery 4 on a bunch of champions is very easy, so is 5, and as I said before

If you've been playing league CONSISTANTLY for 5 years you'd have way more than 3 lv 4 champions and 1 lv 6.

I really don't. Lulu, Azir, Zac, and Nami, that's it. I play Ranked when I can find the motivation, but most of the time I don't feel like it and play ARAM or the weekly RGM instead. I've played several thousands of games during my time here, it's just that a massive number of them weren't standard Summoner's Rift games.

Having mastery added to ARAM will be quite a boost to my total mastery.

maybe for something like platinum and up, but at lower ranks that would severly hamper newer players ability to learn counter play champions

Yeah, maybe this could be a gold+ feature or something.
