About the Melee vs Ranged situation...

After seeing all this outcry, it really got me thinking.

Riot themselves have stated Marksman will ALWAYS be required in the meta. They have the best Siege potential, they are the biggest source of physical damage for a team(usually), and they have the safety of being ranged.

Yes, marksmen are REQUIRED. So after thinking about this something started really bugging me.

There are build paths to counter attack speed champions item 3110 item 3143 There are build paths to counter on-hit builds item 3075 There are build paths to counter crit builds item 3143 (^all of these kinda cover them all as well) There are build paths to counter armor builds item 3071 item 3035 There are build paths to counter MR builds item 3091 item 3135 There are build paths to counter HP builds item 3153 item 3151 The list goes on.

But there are no build paths to counter the one thing that will ALWAYS be in the meta without question...? Marksmen.

I think there needs to be a build path of items that focus SPECIFICALLY on reducing ranged physical damage taken.

The stats gives should probably be less efficient than something like Deadman's or Sunfire, but give a unique passive for ranged physical damage only.

Perhaps something Like: Studded Vest Cost - 500g 8 Armor 50% Base HP Regen Unique Passive - Reduces physical ranged damage taken by 15

Scale Armor Cost - Studded Vest + Cloth Vest + 600g 30 Armor 100% Base HP Regen Unique Passive - Reduces physical ranged damage taken by 20 or 15% (Whichever is greater)

Drakescale Plate Cost - Scale Armor + Kindlegem + 1000g 40 Armor 350 HP 150% Base HP Regen Unique Passive - Reduces physical ranged damage taken by 50 or 25% (Whichever is greater)

SOMETHING to this effect, I'm not at all saying these need to be exact values because I'm not any sort of balance expert, I just think something to this effect should be added to the game.

I can't believe this is getting upvotes...

Three of the "buildpaths" you mentioned are used better against marksmen than almost any other class. So there's plenty to deny marksmen. Sure, it happens to work on auto-attack-centric melee champions as well, but that's beside the point.

Unique Passive - Reduces physical ranged damage taken by 50 or 25% (Whichever is greater)

This item would literally break the game into a tank meta as it's that disgustingly overpowered item 3075 + item would literally invalidate any ranged auto attacker on champions like DrMundo Rammus Olaf Volibear Trundle Malphite Zac

And item 3143 item 3110 item 3075 are already anti-auto attacker items thus anti-ranged items.

There are build paths to counter on-hit builds item 3075

no, there arent. thornmail doesnt count when it doesnt actually do its job, unless you happen to play rammus or malphite.

One thing that has to be very very important is that offense has to outscale defense late game.

item 3143 item 3068 item 3075 item 3110 item 3742 ?????

You forget that armor is minimal in its effectiveness if it has no health to buff with it. item 3110 and item 3075 do not give raw health, and your 2 suggestions do not either. Educate yourself here because it is too complex to explain better in this response.

I thought about this as well, and came to a different solution.

Have you ever played the GW Lord of the Rings Tabletop? In that game, when they added unique titles and properties to the other 8 ring wraiths, one of them became the Shadow King. He had an aura effect that made targeting him (and his unit) incredibly difficult for ranged attacks from farther away than a given distance, but not completely impossible.

When designing a counter-item to ranged champions, I feel like that would be an interesting angle. Something that reduced auto-attack damage and on-hit damage by 20% (or so) if it originated from more than 350 units (for example) away. Also, the damage reduction is halved against champions that have an item with the Unique Passive - Last Whisper. Also, said item line would ideally not feature Armor of its own, to prevent double-dipping into anti-aa defensive stats.

A set-up like this would give short-ranged champions a tool to reduce some of the damage they take from longer range, while giving ranged champions the option to move closer to get around the damage reduction. It also keeps the important aspect of offense outscaling defense, paralleling actual armor in its weakness in regard to Last Whisper.

500 gold item? Most likely won't be used unless it builds into something legit, because you get no pots if you start that.
