What is Miss Fortune's role? And what does she excel at?

I've been playing a lot of Miss Fortune lately, and I began to wonder about her role amongst ADCs, but I didn't really see a niche that she filled.

If you want wave clear and utility: Sivir If you want a tank buster: Vayne If you want poke: Ez If you want burst: Draven etc... etc... etc...

What does Miss Fortune excel at? What is her specialty within the ADC role that makes her unique/separate from the rest?

Miss Fortune is a Jack-of-all-Trades ADC. You mention several things she does that others do better. You glance over the fact she does all of those things to begin with. While she isn't the best at all of them, she does all those things reasonably well; The exception of being a Lane Bully and some roaming, where she does those things very well (with roaming, she pays nothing, other characters have to use an ability for a boost in mobility or have something to hit. And you do not want to take a Ricochet shot off a killed minion.)

  • She also has an amazing Early and Mid game, and never truly falls off Late game (While she does fall off, she is still very much a big threat and cannot be ignored. A good MF ult can turn a team fight around fast.)
  • She slots into ANY composition just fine. Unlike some other carries that need teams to help defend them (Kog'maw for instance.) She naturally has some synergies with other champions that can be taken advantage of, but that's true of almost every champion.
  • As mentioned, she can easily go toe to toe with tanks early-mid thanks to Impure Shots and an enemy not being able to itemize defensively for both damage types. She is one of the sturdier carries in the game (having the highest starting Health and is 3rd place in starting armor behind Graves and Kindred.

(Being a Jack of All Trades isn't a bad thing, Thresh is exactly that and look at how annoyed people are with him.)

Miss Fortune right now in Platinum+ has a 53% win rate, the most kills obtained for an ADC, and one of the highest damage outputs for an ADC. Her play rate is bad with only 2.5% but this shows that at least MF mains or casual MF players can crush the enemy even against competent players.

I think right now her role within the ADC role is just being able to do everything. She has no real fall offs but she doesn't do everything perfectly at the same time. The buff to her ultimate definitely put her as one of the strongest solo queue ADCs easily and I wouldn't be surprised if she got played in the LCS a lot again.

Fortune is somewhere in between. She averages in everything while specializing in basically nothing. She doesn't have any fast mobility, but her strut gives her a sizable movement speed bonus, which is very handy for escaping. If you can aim your shot right with Q, you can kill a minion with it and ricochet the bullet right into an enemy champion's face, which is a guaranteed crit. Her W is a modest attack speed boost while boosting her damage against opponents she tags multiple times. Her E provides a little bit of slow, which is handy for suppressing enemies long enough for you to close the gap or get away. Her R is one of the very few ults for ADCs that can hit multiple targets multiple times while also increasing the damage against targets too stupid to get the hell out of the way.

In short, Miss Fortune is fire control. She excels in a defensive style where she can keep the enemy at a distance and take pot shots at them.
