Edge of Night should have never existed
I don't want this to be another thread complaining about this item because we have enough of those. Riot has already said they are nerfing EoN, so there's no point. However, I don't want to talk about the item per se, I want to talk about its role in regards to the game. Edge of Night was designed so assassins could engage fights reliably without getting CCed. As stated in the Patch 6.22 Notes:
More than any other class, assassins are too easily shut down by stray or ambient crowd control. We’re giving them some ability to plan for—and avoid— interruption as they dive in, at the cost of some slot efficiency compared to other assassin items.
So, this item was literally designed to stop assassins from getting outplayed. Why is this a problem? The entire assassin play style is meant to be high risk and high reward. However, Edge of Night was designed as basically a middle finger to that design philosophy. This item completely eliminates the "risk" involved with being an assassin. See, the problem isn't that EoN is incredibly powerful (even though it is), the problem is that it is breaking core gameplay philosophy, rules, and playstyles.
If an item was made that gave Juggernauts insane amounts of movement speed it would be a problem. Why? Because a Juggernauts major weakness is being kited. When an item is made that can remove a classes major weakness, there is a problem. And this is the case with Edge of Night. If Zed ults my ADC, I have a window to potentially save my carry and outplay Zed. However, with Edge of Night that window is shut. The only reliable means to deal with an assassin -- which is CC -- is gone. Even if I play correctly and land a Nami Q on Zed when he reappears, it wont matter. My ADC dies, Zed never had to worry about dying or being outplayed because there were no risk.
Edge of Night is overpowered not because it is overtuned, but because it is game breaking. So ... with that being said, it begs the question ...
Why was it allowed to exist in the first place?
