A Yasuo change that not only makes sense, but also is rather fair to the champion.

Make his E damage physical. Don't nerf the damage, just make the damage physical damage.

Why? You may ask. My reasoning behind it is this:

Most people have a full set of Flat Armor Runes.

You know, the ones that give you 9 flat armor at the beginning of a game when you have all of them? Those actually do a LOT of work early game.

Yasuo currently Maxes E first, as the base magic damage is high, and essentially makes him a mixed damage monster. By making this change, itemizing only ARMOR early game negates a good amount of burst, especially from the surprise magic damage his E has. This will make him easier to itemize against, and will make the cheapest runes in the shop negate a good amount of damage from all spells.

I mean, it also makes since from a thematic perspective, right?

Why does a guy dashing around like that deal MAGIC damage. Makes no sense.

Also, this will reward better Yasuo players instead of crappy noob ones, as people who land the Ultimate as Yasuo will have the Armor Pen from his ult passive, which will increase the damage his E would do.

Just my Two Cents to the Yasuo discussion.

You do realize that would buff him right? The more he dashes the more damage that ability does. He could ult into a team fight, get the insane armor pen buff from it, and then just dash around killing people even faster then he does now because it's now physical damage.

Marshbouy3 votes

That's not how it works. making someone no longer deal mixed damage is not a buff.

xBushx1 votes

Yes it is! It means that Armor Pen impacts it which is a direct BUFF how would you say it's NOT a buff.

Because it would deal less damage to someone who already builds armor against him. It's a buff against champs that don't.

So buff against baddies, nerf against good players? Sounds like the current Yasuo lol.

GaleWinUnleashed1 votes

So let's see here. Currently it does magic damage.

What would you build against a Yasuo that's doing well? A mix of armor and health, usually. Whatever happens to fit in your build. This doesn't change; his play and counter-play don't change at all with a switch to physical damage. It makes counter-building him more clear and intuitive.

Now explain how it would be a buff. In your average game, about how much armor and magic resist do you think you buy, relative to each other? For the armor penetration on his ult to cause a buff to his E damage, the average opponent would have to be building significantly less armor than magic resist; this doesn't happen terribly often, though obviously it varies based on team comps.

Keep in mind that if you're worried about a Yasuo doing well late-game, you're probably counter-building him most of the time, enough that you're probably buying more armor than magic resist already. Which this change supports in almost every way.

TL;DR Unless you're neglecting armor because you have to counter Yasuo's friends and their magic damage, changing E to physical damage is a small nerf.

Yasuo can build full damage and crit and he would be 1shotting people with his e ult and q. He's supposed to be a sustained damage assassin/bruiser. Making his e deal physical damage would take that away and people would build stuff like IE + Essence Reaver and other items with a lot of physical damage. He would just 1shot the backline if he can get a knockup on them. It takes away the counter play he already has.

GaleWinUnleashed1 votes

Any concerns with physical-damage E can easily be addressed by small nerfs to its damage. In the majority of cases the switch to physical is already a small nerf, mostly to his early game, so knocking off 5-10 damage at later levels should fix cases where E would be buffed by this change.

Hypothetical (yet extremely common) scenario: Yasuo is doing well, so you build a bunch of armor to reduce his damage. But E does magic damage, so it ignores most of your defenses even if he hasn't ulted to get his armor penetration.

Changing E to physical damage further incentivizes Yasuo to use his ult if he wants to kill a target that has built some armor against him. This leaves him with windows before and between ults where he is slightly weaker (due to the fact that most champions will have higher armor than magic resist). It makes him slightly less of a generalist, and rewards his opponents for properly counter-playing around his ult usage and cooldown.

You don't seem to understand how penetration works.

This would, at best, be a nerf to Yasuo's early game. But late game Yasuo's E will benefit from armour pen, like from his ult.

A single MR item makes Yasuo's E do basically nothing, but now 50% bonus armour pen will make his E relevant. Implicitly, it will also now scale with AD, which would be much better for Yasuo.

Marshbouy1 votes

But that's assuming you are building an MR item. If you build only armor against yasuo he will be doing less damage regardless.

Then you're going to get melted by the magic damage on the enemy team. If there is no magic damage that team has much bigger problems than Yasuo's E damage being lowered by armour.

WhiteSpheres3 votes

More people run scaling health than flat armor seals...so changing this wouldn't do anything lol

GuardAbuse1 votes

I have several mid pages and my against ad one has armor, ap, and as (auto harass op). If you're a dedicated mid or love runes, you probably do have the proper runes to fight him. I do understand if you only have one mid page though. Health is better for sure in that case.

Itankyou2 votes

So u wanna buff yas, no thanks.

Marshbouy5 votes

How is making him AD only and no mixed damage a buff? it makes building armor against him better.

Itankyou3 votes

He is already a great late game champion and his early game is already lacking, nerfing early game and buffing late game doesnt really seem to make sense to me personally.

Marshbouy2 votes

HOW IS IT A BUFF?

Guy Fox Teemo1 votes

Its a buff at lvl 6 when he gets armor pen. He already has a really really shitty early game. Making his power spike even earlier in teh game for a even shitter early game doesn't really help.

yay nibbers1 votes

Except it's BONUS armor penetration, which does nothing against people who don't build armor. Even with that, any armor built against him would reduce the damage, even with his ult armor pen, whereas it would not if it were magic damage.

It's a nerf.

what you deserve1 votes

building armor doesn't do shit if you get hit by his ult

Marshbouy1 votes

But he can no longer deal magic damage. right now he deals magic+physical they want to make it physical only. It's a tweak that is definitely a good one.

Crossette2 votes

actually, yeah. combine this with possibly reducing the overall e damage by 5, and this sounds great

Kaioko2 votes

Although I agree to some of your points, this would also mean that later in the game when he builds armor pen or if he simply uses his ultimate he will do more damage. In the end, this ends up being a bigger buff than nerf.

Buff Jax please1 votes

Thats a buff to Yasuo. He is fine atm..does not need any buffs.

Kingnewgameplus1 votes

I mean, it's technically a buff, but I'd rather have him have a weaker early and better late personally.

IEvenTiltTime1 votes

Champions should just not be designed with runes in mind, that's just horrible design philosophy.

LankPants1 votes

This wouldn't work because of the armour pen on Yasou's ult.

Šeraρh1 votes

Be it a buff or a nerf to his damage, it wouldn't really change a thing.

The problems people have with Yasuo is not his damage, it's how he removes you from the game as a ranged character ( more so when you rely on cooldowns ) and the inconsistency in his damage before he's done building 100% crit. As a projectile-dependant champion, laning against Yasuo makes you feel like he can answer your every move while you can't do shit against his plays and teamfighting against Yasuo pressures you into inaction until he blows the windwall cooldown.

His E doing 5 less damage early game and 20 more late game doesn't quite adress that.

( and if y'all are interested in the thought process behind my claims, I developped them in a long ass essay there : http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/yq7yGpG7-yasuo-laning-phase-power-how-much-is-too-much?comment=0002 )

Yasuo still has his drawbacks tho ( he's somewhat frail once his passive is gone and has to dive head first into fights to actually do his thing, and he's very susceptible to lockdown by tanks and yada yada ) and while I wouldn't define him as "Overpowered" he may as well be the most infuriating thing to play against when you're a skillshot-dependent mage main.

But well, at least I still have Annie and Zyra to shit on him.

Eve had her E changed to physical to make using penetration hard

hers is now

30%:62% the 30% is her "physical off-damage"

I think you may want to be careful about how you approach letting him have this extra physical damage, Eve is ap but the same issue can probably translate over to yasuo

GaleWinUnleashed1 votes

Well just don't build void staff or run mpen runes and AP yasuo is still fine (so-to-speak).

Akali is SO HOT1 votes

AP Items don't give armor pen. The only time I would actually have good pen against enemies for my E to do damage is during my ult which is pretty lame compared to that pen being up all the time. Plus Riot has tried to shift away from making abilities do physical damage with AP scalings because then you get monstrosities like AP Tryndamere.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

that change is pocket change no pun intended. but it wouldn't do anything

Summonerrr 11 votes

Or just take off the scaling completely and make the damage scale with his shield strength.

Michael Bacon1 votes

What would be best is that they nerf the base damage of his dash and add a small AD ratio, something like 0.6 Bonus AD. This would weaken Tanksuo and his early game bully potential but make AD a better option. The only reason why Top Yasuo's win rate is so high is because of the tank build. Crit Yasuo only has a 49 - 50% win rate.

Guy Fox Teemo1 votes

This would lead to situations where he's insanely weak early; Then hit a huge spike a lvl 6 with his E shredding the. hell out of you with the 50% bonus armor pen..

I"d rather have his e just be increased to .75 at lvl 1 and then scaling back down to the .1 seconds a max. Since that seems to be what most people are annoyed by is the constant dashes early. Would make it more risky for him to do trades earlier and have to think a bit more, and give the opponent more reaction time.

JnFnRu1 votes

That and remove his armor Pen from ult!

LEADlNG1 votes

He's mixed damage right now why would you want to change him to ALL AD against all the armor... this makes 0 sense, no support.

3 Ziggs Mafia1 votes

Actually, you should understand that Yasuo maxes E first because it lowers his dash cooldown on targets; it isn't done because of the magic damage. Also, his E doesn't deal enough damage, in the first place, for this to be a useful change. All this will really do is make him slightly stronger late game, as armor penetration will also affect this ability.

Rimgon1 votes

A reasonable change that I've always thought made sense to begin with. Take an upvote.

redfeenix1 votes

holy crap his e is magic dmg? WHY. WHY IS PHYSICALLY DASHING AT SOMEONE WITH A BLADE MAGICAL??
