Anyone try Phantom Dancer on Garen?

I just tried it in an ARAM. Figured I'd try out his crit spinning. Honestly I don't see anything wrong with it. Beyond the regular stats, ignoring unit collision and getting 12% damage reduction seems to work pretty well for him.

What do you all think?

I have once.

Pretty fun to chase the Villain through minions so they eat the skillshots while screaming DEMACIA in my head.

If only E didn't suffer from a flat 50% crit damage reduction :/

item 3031 Our problems have been solved .

50% crit damage reduction + 50% crit damage gained = normal crit. :D

I know math doesn't work this way, don't kill me.

No, that's exactly how it works. Crit % increases are all additive.

But now you're Garen who dumped pretty much 5k gold on practically full offensive. Unless you're really ahead, you're in for a rough time.

Woo, I mathed right! Its no issue if you powerfarmed that gold im.

The W passive gives you bonus resistances roughly equal to a gunfire cape and a spirit visage, so you have room for more offense.

Idk Its not the worse item you can buy, but the fact that the Atk speed stat is almost entirely wasted (especially while you are spinning) doesn't make it very worth the gold. also unless you are building lots of damage the crits arent going to be very big, making the crit portion kinda weak as well, Overall I wouldn't buy it just for some damage reduction, His W makes the damage reduction less effective because it doesn't work additively either

Spec'ing into attack speed on Garen (PD + Triforce) isn't as bad as you might think. Garen gets an unusually high base AD, so AS/Crit make his autos hurt pretty bad.

This is a split-push/dueling build, though. You'll be weak in teamfights, but it will let you beat up tanks and run down people you normally couldn't.

I've built it quite a few times in Ranked (Mid-high Plat for most of this year).

It's a decent item situationally. The main reason for getting PD is to make you harder to kite (12% Movespeed near targets). Pairing PD with Triforce makes you fast enough to outrun your target even if you are permaslowed by Rylai's/Mallet (Which is the main reason to use this build). Triforce+PD gives you pretty decent Autoattack DPS too.

The high DPS makes you a decent splitpusher, especially if you can get ahead, but against a lot of comps you'll be too squishy to teamfight properly.

Lately, I've been using a more traditional off-tank build (BC, Sunfire, Dead Man, etc), since it seems like the game is skewing back toward higher damage but lower mobility.

A notable exception is when I play against Nasus. BC/PD + Executioner's Calling will let you duel him throughout the game if you can get even slightly ahead, especially if you use Fervor.

It's important to note that in most games, your burst damage will be lower if you use the PD build, since your E only crits at half-strength. Also, you really miss the CDR you'd get from going Black Cleaver.

TL;DR: It's a decent niche item but don't build it every game.
