honestly it pisses me off to see azir in pro play.

I mean what can I say. this isn't about me playing against him but just god damn it is it lame to watch a team helplessly try to do anything against a really good azir. I mean lord engage/disengage sustained and burst magic damage. its so ridiculous it just really pisses me off to see even azir counters lose to him in and out of lane. I mean what is he supposed to be both a lane bully and a late game hypercarry i dont get it. ignore the winrate and the nerfs but why does he gotta be good at everything. I mean his Q cooldown is too damn low. multiple usages during the same solider duration. its stupid. its like man can it stop. oh he does that and that and that and it doesn't stop. put a limit on what azir can do ffs. he can do everything better than almost everyone that specializes at one of the many powers azir has

He's a good champion if you can play him well, but there's a lot of pretty gross exaggeration here.

Votable Jester4 votes

He is a lane bully and he does scale incredibly well. You can't deny those facts.

I don't see why a champion should do both unless they have a weak mid game (which he doesn't). He's just generally strong. I won't pretend he's easy to play, but his burst, dps, range, and utility are a bit much still.

I'm probably a bit biased though, as he's one of the few laners I have significant trouble dealing with.

You have problems dealing with Azir as Xerath/Vel'koz/Morgana? lol

Kubox1 votes

Problem is one do those champion bring that he doesn't?

  • Azir can siege as well as Xerath.

  • Vel'koz is a tank buster, but Azir has really no problem killing them either, having sustained DPS.

  • Morgana only saving grace is how deadly her Q is. But by the time she lands one in a siege, Azir already dealt massive damage with his Q on anyone getting even remotely close to the tower.

Those champions have no problems facing Azir, but so does Azir :

  • Xerath has burst wave-clear, but Azir clears waves pretty quickly too.

  • Azir can kill Vel'koz easily. He can also cancel his ult.

  • Morg fairs well in lane vs him, but that's about it. She won't deal more damage, wave-clear better or zone harder.

This is speaking strictly from a competitive/challenger perspective, up there these things would go. In soloqueue? Azir has 41% win-rate with soloqueu, his average damage dealt is one of the worse among other mid-laners.

Just making sure; do you people know he was nerfed in this patch? (6.14)? because sometimes I don't think the Anti-Azir circlejerk actually keeps up with patchnotes (similar to the old Zed circlejerk when he was nerfed and became healthy but his ban-rates maintained rofl, now they're falling down that people are slowly realizing he's actually not satan)

Let's not forget that Azir is a late game powerhouse. A lot of casual games aren't lasting long due to early snowballing, which prevents Azir from ever reaching his true potential.

WoonStruck1 votes

A lot of casual gamers are also completely terrible at farming as him (or anyone, really...hence people mostly liking AD or waveclearing AP).

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

Yeah, his instant AAs can completely mess with someone's farming groove if they are used to ranged champs with delayed AAs.

WoonStruck1 votes

I mean, some people can't last hit as Leblanc for the life of them either.

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

Oh. Well then off to the bot games with them until they find their farming groove!

yeah i mean lb cs in low elo is quite legendary.gets as much cs as a bot lane support with targons.

azir true potential is rylais and nashors.

Late reply, but I do have trouble against him as Morgana. I'm generally fine as Xerath, and ok with Vel'koz; however, you seem to be forgetting that the Azir player picks after I do 1/2 the time.

Sure, Morgana can still cs against him well enough, but it's not like his pushing ability is worse than hers. He also outscales her unless my adc is actually good enough that a Black Shield is appropriately useful.

Even then, Azir is such a god in the late game, and doesn't suffer for it at any point in the game. In the super early laning phase, he can easily push the lane with his soldiers from a decent range, keeping him from being killed at the very least. After the first couple levels, he gains massive harass, an easy escape, and a somewhat easy gank tool at 6.

You don't have to be a pro to W->auto->Q->auto for a thunderlord's proc with Azir. You could argue that I could retaliate with an all in during that, but I'll probably take at least one extra auto for my trouble. If I use my mobility to go in on him, the enemy jungler could easily show up to kill me as well. It's just a difficult situation where all answers seem wrong.

This is not to say that I always lose to Azir (I really don't know my win-rate against him, so I could even be >50%), but he is a frustrating champion to go against with his general strength throughout the game.

I think OP was focused more on the viewer aspect of the champion as opposed go the actual play as/against stuff. Which I kinda agree on. I rarely watch pro play but every once in a while when I'm bored I might check it and it always the same champs and the same play making. It gets pretty boring after awhile.

Azir No sacrifice is too great.

We can only imagine how many sand soldiers fell till Azir was given the power of the OP gods.

well lot of people can't play azir so...

Last Azir games at competitive. You wait patch 6.14.

Because he is trash tier mid laner on patch 6.14.

Edit; Azir haters here.Salt is real.

Lots of exaggerations, he's banned and picked alot in NA because of Bjerg and pobelter, and in EU he's meta, but in other regions he's not a contested/fancy pick. He's alright, not a free-pass to winning, and he requires alot of skill and positioning.

Anyways he's gonna mostly disappear from the pro scene once 6.14 hits, he's done goofed with the latest nerfs.

+1.

Azir is banned because of Bjerg, Pobelter, Jensen.

People should look LCK patch 6.13 Azir isn't banned.Only against Faker.

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

Perfect solution is to revert Azir's nerfs and ban pros from picking him XD

SnowLeopard912 votes

I don't think that the 6.14 nerfs are going to push him out of the pro scene. They're actually pretty minor, and he needs a slight rework to make him less busted in the hands of masterful players. You should read RiotGypsy's rant on the matter.

You watch EU LCS.Tomorrow.

Riot nerfed Azir according to NA LCS.

Azir's stats aren't absurd on other regions.

Do you even play Azir? and yes I red that. But other Rioters said he was in a good spot and they're trying to nerf his competetive instead of soloqueu because he's miserable in soloqueu (41% winrates this patch, 46% at the hands of mains).

As for reworks/updates, Riot stated that they're updating their policies with those. Small scale "updates" and "mini reworks" are going to be restricted to full-class updates, otherwise they would only do full-reworks/overhauls, such as the Ryze one. Chill your tits.

YurÌ on Ice2 votes

And btw, you should spend time ranting about a champ with 41% winrate and spend more on telling Riot that the new Sona is freelo and should be nerf-batted/reverted to pre-rework status :)

SnowLeopard912 votes

The real trouble with Azir is that he has to be double-balanced between his professional play dominance cases and his solo queue under-performance. Any stat nerf will just make him even less playable in solo queue, while not addressing the mechanics that make him so strong in pro play.

I dotn have many problems facing azir early

the trick is to go ham on his face as soon as he used Q

then again i pick sion into him which allows me to do so whilst also having longer range poke good waveclear and if i go into melee after he used Q he can still use E but as long as his Q is on cooldown my abilities outrange his soldiers so he wont be able to go anywhere ^^

better sustain and poke with equal pushing power allows me to win the lane almost everytime against azir then i roam and rape his team with my ult

However sion isnt your typical midpick for most people

so from the azir perspective when i play azir i struggle against xerath and lux and malzahar becuase his passive prevents my damage so he can walk up and E + W me so then i have to run for my life or got groupraped by a bunch voidlings

go even with alot of other mages like velkoz morgana viktor

Yes, Nerf chicken-man

They have done a really poor job of focusing on what his identity is supposed to be. If they want him to be an engage/disengage burst mage, he should be strong early and weak late. If they want him to be a DPS mage he should be very weak early and strong late. But they need to pick one and that's something they've been dragging their feet on.

warpenguin5551 votes

i have the same relationship with irelia and nidalee. they are champs that if everybody suddenly forgot about them and they were never played again it wouldnt hurt my feelings 1 bit.

it helps Azir out tremendously that all of his counters are never actually seen in pro play aside from viktor

LordGeovanni1 votes

idk what makes riot think that making a champion more complex gives leave to make them better than everything else not that azir is the most complex champion these are the champions when ever they nerf anything they have compensation before he nerf has even taken place azir is sorta complex but his mana costs are nearly non existant and do are his cool downs so he can just get more and more damage without worrying about mana or messing up plays can just leave a soldier down for the heck of it just in case every few seconds with out worrying about cooldowns either

Divewing1 votes

The main issue is Azirs true hard counters are either unviable professionally, or don't work because it's too risky to go in because there's piss all vision. You have to remember that in pro play, the possibility of a gank is normally a stifle against any aggression. This creates what I like to call Schrodinger's Jungler, wherein the Jungler is there until he isn't (if you don't know where he is, assume he is in that brush to the left). Stuff like talon doesn't work because it's gimmicky, unviable, and easy to counter at the pro level, and stuff like Vel Koz and Xerath are double edged swords that really only turn mid into a "my jungler babysat me more so I win".

The fault is all on riot for trying to force pro players to take more risks when they make plays SPECIFICALLY BASED ON WHAT IS THE LEAST RISKY. It opened the way for 24/7 lane swapping, and stale champion diversity/matchups, with about 1 or 2 S tier picks in each lane at any one time, and the rest hovering between usable and trash.

Blumpkin Nation1 votes

His Q should have a permanent cooldown scaling of 10/9/8/7/6. Cooldown does not affect it. So that you always have a 6 second window to engage/fight him.

His ult should be changed. It can have the initial knock-back on the cast, but thereafter the wall doesn't continue to knock people up. It acts as a normal wall for abilities, but enemies can walk through it (They're just slowed or are grounded until they pass). The duration is a flat 3 seconds.

Sand Soldiers need their leash range reduced.

Not enough?
