A small, "risky" buff suggestion for Azir

I see too many Azir players not going for Nashor's Tooth on the Emperor, instead choosing double Morello builds or Morello/Grail. To me, that's not really playing Azir the way he was meant to be played.

The problem, primarily, is that Azir's Sand Soldiers don't proc Nashor's Tooth's on-hit effect with their attacks, thus causing the passive to be wasted. Even though the other stats in it make Azir an M-DPS monster, most people can't get past that "doesn't inflict on-hit" part.

To remedy this a bit, here's a buff suggestion I have that would involve Azir requiring to take a big risk to use properly:

If Azir is in basic attack range at the same time as his Sand Soldiers, he attacks the target alongside them.

Right now, if Azir is in melee range of someone with two Sand Soldiers right next to him, only the soldiers attack, while Azir just commands them as he's getting smacked around. With this change, Azir would be attacking too, resulting in him dealing his base AD plus the Nashor's proc ONCE per attack, as well as his soldiers spearing the target at the same time. If his soldiers and target are outside Azir's attack range, Azir commands their attacks as he does on live.

Since Azir's attack range isn't that great, he's gotta get in close to utilize this change. That means exposing himself to attack, so it's a risk/reward thing.

Anybody think this could work? Or would it require other changes?

That would pretty much give Azir another Soldier (damage) and that is not needed right now. It would also allow Azir to be build AD. Azir wasn't meant to be build any certain way. Nashors tooth isn't even in his recommended items (I don't think) so even then it clearly wasn't intended for him.

o.o;; it's got attack speed AP and CDR azir loves all those things, and he does damage by AAing wich usualy procs onhit effects. this item was the first thing that came to my mind when i read about him.

That's what most people thought when it came to Azir. Thing is: It lacks AP. And that's just about it. It really matters how you want to play Azir:

Like an AP marksman = Build Nashors

Like a mage that can jump in and make ult plays = build AP and Magic Pen for the burst

A consistent damage dealer that protects his team with his ult and protects his carries specifically = Nashors, Rylai's RoA's and so on. Only use ult to push assassin's off the carries and as a disengage.

Azir has a lot of different ways to play him and that is why I love him.

I play a lot of Azir and I can tell you now that Nashors isn't efficient on him because it lacks AP, not because of the on-hit effect which is miniscule at best.

In order for Nashors to be more efficient than Morello on Azir you would need to attack 4 times with a solider before repositioning it. That's when the attack speed starts to outscale the AP difference from the Q and flat damage on auto. Most people don't stick around for 4 full soldier autos, they leave the range of the soldier after 1 or 2. So Nashors is just not a good item on him unless you've got a CC heavy team that can hold the enemy in place while you sit there autoing.

Honestly right now I would rather take scaling CDR runes than go double morello or ionians. Nashors isn't even a part of the equation for me.

Also he doesn't need buffs. He's in a really strong place right now. If anything I expect him to be nerfed slightly, especially if Zed falls out of the meta once he's been nerfed.
